A few years ago I read a book by a guy who went through every single song on the first 6 Black Sabbath albums in painstaking detail. Every chord, tempo change, drum pattern, everything, was analyzed. For the life of me, I can't remember the name of it.

Rat Salad is a great biography about Black Sabbath's Ozzy years. The book not only serves as a great lesson about Black Sabbath's history. It also is a great in-depth look at the songs themselves. It's like having a class on the music theory behind Black Sabbath's music. He also provides context for the years albums were released and he includes his own connection to Black Sabbath.
