Yeah definitely very expensive but I work with vr and convenience of being able to travel with my headset made getting a vr capable laptop a priority. I would go with a desktop rig if it was just to have at my home. 17" display on amazon for 2k https://www.amazon.com/Razer-Blade-Ultra-Thin-Gaming-Laptop/dp/B0757Z9XP6?th=1

This infographic discusses a lot about pricing of gaming laptops and what you should expect to get for each price range.

In terms of suggestions, I did a little bit of research to find some good deals that are currently available for laptops in this price range for this Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend:

You could get this Alienware Laptop with a GTX 1070 and 17 Inch Screen and 512GB of SSD for 22% off ($1999) or you could drop some of the SSD and get it for $1599.

If you are interested more in aesthetics of a laptop, the Razer Blade Pro looks epic in my opinion and has a pretty nice sale going on to bring it into your price range. It only has a GTX 1060 tho which may be a little weak for how expensive it is but the 1060 will still be very relevant for the next few years.

If you are in this price range, you should be getting a 1070 or 1080 to "Future Proof" your laptop as best as possible as you said you hoped you could do. You could look around on other websites tomorrow as well because sometimes Cyber Monday has some pretty good deals. I'll try to get back to you tomorrow if I see anything particularly good! Good luck on your research.
