If you're looking for inspiration, these two books are great places to start:

Check your local library, they may also have those books. If you live on Rosebud Sinte Gleska should have them, or they can get them on loan from one of the other SD universities.
The State of the Native Nations: Conditions under U.S. Policies of Self-Determination by Harvard Project on American Indian Economic Development is a decent book with a large overview of the things you are looking for.
And Rebuilding Native Nations: Strategies for Governance and Development by Miriam Jorgensen is also a good choice.
Both of these books come from a policy position, but have Native voices within them and contain a variety of examples.
