Looks like it's a kumara reddragon keyboard: https://www.amazon.com/Redragon-KUMARA-Backlit-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B016MAK38U

It's a cheap mechanical keyboard, but it works great for the cost. If you don't have a mechanical keyboard this is a great place to start. I have been using mine for about 6 months and it's awesome.

Edit: I was wrong. That is a hyperx keyboard. Probably the alloy fps pro.

With leds on

Amazon link for the keyboard

Usually in the cheap range (<$40), it is hard to find browns. They pretty much all come with blues.

Other boards i like if you are in the market

Magicforce 68 Outemu browns

Redragon K552 Outemu blues

u/Metaldrake · 10 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Save yourself like $6 more and get a Tomoko 87, it's actually mechanical.

Or like $10 more and get a Redragon Kumara or magicforce 68.

Na, I wish it was! I wanted to try mechanical keyboards and now i'm hooked forever. It's a Kumara Redragon K552, really nice beginner mech with Cherry MX blue clones. I have the Tai-Hao Double shot ABS shine thru white caps from Massdrop on it.

With a mechanical you should be able to simply replace the key the next time you have an issue with it. Good luck friend!

u/Lethality0 · 5 pointsr/buildapc

The one thing I’d add to that is a mechanical keyboard. You can buy the redragon k552 for $33 , and the rgb version is $45

u/SavagePigeon69 · 4 pointsr/pcmasterrace

The Redragon K552 is a great value for it's price and it is backlit.

u/qazaqwert · 4 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

If you live in north america or europe there are definitely some good quality sub $50 mechanical keyboards. Id look at some of redragon's stuff
Yeah you arent gonna get rgb or name-brand switches but its still mechanical and really good for the price.

Mouse - $14

Keyboard - $28

"Literally" exaggerating

u/alose · 4 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

At that price range, you are really better to buy new, as most any decent keyboard will be more than $50 used, and I would not trust any budget keyboard that was on the used market. And at $50, forget about RGB.

We highly recommend dropping the number pad and using a TKL or smaller keyboard. You are literally hurting yourself by using a fullsize if you are a right handed mouse user. Either you are putting undo strain on your shoulder by reaching far out to the right, or undo strain on your wrist my shifting your typing area to the left.

If you still want a fullsize in spite of our recommendations, then an Eagletec is probably the best option.

A Redragon, Tomoko, or Magicforce are probably the best in your price range. I would recommend the Magicforce over the others.

u/ldminh94 · 4 pointsr/hardwareswap

Isn't the keyboard $39 on Amazon ?

u/DyLaNzZpRo · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace
  • Magicforce 68.

Excellent budget option, pretty damn nice looking, comes with shockingly good ABS keycaps (they feel great, not very thick to be expected but they're damn nice for the price), comes in either Cherry MX, Gateron, Kailh or Outemu switch variants (obviously, price varies), has 3 different colour options (black, gold and silver/white) and has a couple of different LED options (typically from what I can tell, the Cherry MX/Gateron variants have either solid white or solid blue LEDs, whereas the Kailh/Outemu variants come with blue LEDs but orange WASD/arrowkeys. Has a removable cable too.

  • 'Generic' Kailh TKL

I say generic because there's a lot of companies taking the reference of this board and rebranding it, just changing the logo etc. It's got decent build quality, cheap as hell in terms of price, Outemu switches from what I can tell, and well, it's cheap. Overall I'd choose the Magicforce over this any day, but it's an option of course.

Those are the main 2 I'd consider, the fullsize Magicforce is also a decent option though it's a hair below $70.
u/Nebulyst · 3 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

I think some versions are outemu, but when I bought it it was cherry.

for someone as nontechnical as it sounds like you are, i'd buy the ssd and cut costs by using a cheap kb and mouse. instead of $110 on name brand kb and mouse spend 10-20bucks on a gaming mouse and 30ish on a generic mechanical like [this] (https://www.amazon.com/Redragon-KUMARA-Backlit-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B016MAK38U/ref=sr_1_3/138-0023549-1813778?ie=UTF8&qid=1520217238&sr=8-3&keywords=mechanical+keyboard). they'll do the job while you save for nicer but give you most of what the more expensive option does and spend the savings on a ryzen 1600. i'd also spend a few bucks and get the case you really want, the p400 is a solid case but the s340 elite is a better total package for not much more.

mice price and mice quality are not closely linked, as long as you spend more than 10 bucks on one and avoid the stuff that seems a little too good for the price you'll find something that will serve you just as well as a fancy logitech but at 15-20bucks instead of 60+. real example, my logitech g900 is a really nice mouse but at the $90 i paid its not even 2x better than my previous cooler master recon i paid 30ish for. the extra cost is almost all down to it being a fancier brand name and that its wireless.

It’s honestly pretty great if you’re on a budget and don’t need a num pad. Looks nice and I’ve been using it since August with no issues

u/UltimateCheeze · 3 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

u/nmcotton · 3 pointsr/buildapc

a lot of keyboards are branded as "gaming" but are cheap $10 keyboards with a couple bells and whistles, with a stiff premium. get him a mechanical keyboard, 100%. they can get pretty expensive, but redragon has a lot of budget mechanical keyboards that have solid feedback, a quick search returned this and this. they're the same keyboard, except the second has the numpad on the right of the keyboard. there are a lot of options from other brands, just be careful while looking to avoid the "mechanical feel" keyboards, as they aren't as durable or have as long of a lifespan.

u/satyanjoy · 3 pointsr/IndianGaming

Look like a membrane keyboard to me, check Redragon K552 KUMARA

u/AirlessTHEGOOSE · 3 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Oh is it? Oh jeez...

For 40$ (now 33!) my first board was the Red Dragon Kumara - has those Outemu Blues and red backlighting that's not too obnoxious; although these days I'd reccommend a MagicForce 68 for a first time board.

Hell yeah, Red Dragon keyboard and Centrophorous, best priced budget equipment in my opinion. They were my first, too. They also have a very affordable mechanical keyboard.

u/PCtroubles7 · 3 pointsr/pcgaming

Red dragon kumara K552. Anyone who tells you that you can't get a good keyboard for cheap is un-informed. The Kumara is mechanical, heavy, rgb and a solid keyboard all around. I've had mine for 3 years with zero issues. It's 32$ and the only con is that it has no numpad. But if that's your thing, the Kumara k551(i think that's it) has a numpad and is 6 more dollars.

3000+ reviews and a 4.4 rating speaks volumes. Don't buy some overpriced bullshit. Here's a link:

1.) take the money you are going to spend on that internal HDD and the external HDD and get you a "large as you can afford" internal SSD. I'd look at either a 1TB or (2) 500GB. Maybe something like this.

2.) Dont waste your money on that keyboard, if you are building a 'red' build, go to amazon and look at the 'red dragon' keyboards.

3.) also, stay away from off brands, IMO. It ain't worth the savings if you have to RMA the part. Mainly looking at the RAM you chose, but the SSD falls in that category also. read reviews. If there are only 2 reviews for something, I personally wouldn't trust it.

There's no way you're going to be able to get real Cherry MX switches in that price range, but this should work. It's a ripoff of blues. Check out the options for backlight options.

u/oversizedpen · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Hello friend, I have a black and red build and I indeed was looking for good peripherals to match just like you. I ended up buying the Red Dragon Kumara which was surprisingly cheap for being mechanical and backlit. I got a Razer Deathadder Chroma to match with the keyboard, as it is RGB and can be customized to any color you'd like.

u/thekaoswithin · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

I picked up this redragon, decent or nah?

u/powermad80 · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

This is a pretty great entry board for the price, for trying out the feel of a mech before going all out.

Knockoff cherry mx blue switches, and a bit clickier and louder than the cherry blues too.

u/Roygbiv856 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

No problem. Said you needed a mouse and keyboard too. I just use logitech wireless mice, but this keyboard is great for the money. I love mine

u/n3onis · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

I have a Chinese VicTsing mechanical keyboard for ~$45 with Outemu blue switches. It's been doing its job for more than a year now and have nothing bad to say about it. The build quality is really good with a heavy, metal backplate. The actuation point of the switch is at the exact same position as the tactile feedback, although you can keep pressing the key if you hold it below the bump (read it's the same with Cherries). Definitely worth the money in my opinion if you aren't willing to spend big bucks on a keyboard.

I wanted to go with Redragon K552/K551 (numpad version) but it was hard to get in Europe. I would recommend it if you are from the US. Redragon seems to be a popular choice in cheap peripheral alternatives. Their keyboard also uses the Outemu blue switches.

Edit: more details

u/Deyndra · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

New to the MK community:

What do you think of this keyboard ? I found it and it seems really affordable, but says the switches are "Cherry Blue equivalent" making me think that they are not necessarily as good. Would it be possible to take the keys off and replace the switches with the same keycaps at a later date?

Thanks!

u/relevant_pet_bug · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Honestly, I'm not the best person to ask about Wifi.

This card is considered one of the best for the price, and comes with blue tooth built in. It also may be out of your price range. Then again, wifi is not great for Online gaming, so if you plan on using WIFI a really good card will benefit you.

As for keyboard and mouse. Again, budget is important. $25 logitech KB/M combo cheapos will get you by until you either break the keyboard from banging on it in like 6 months like I did with my first build in 2013, or can afford better.

Since cherry lost the patent on mechanical key switches, chinese knock off mechanicals dominate the budget range. You have to be careful, as some brands like eagletech are just the same rebranded generic mechanical KB sold by a million different vendors.

The king of Budget chinesium Mechs is the Redragon Kumara K552. You can look up reviews if you want. /Edit: here is one. Also, the Kumara uses blue switches which are more of a typing switch then a gaming switch, and those switches are cheapo knockoffs. Still the kumara is an excellent starter mechanical.

This is an interesting starter Mechanical. It comes with reds which are a pretty standard gamer switch. Reds, blacks and browns are considered gamer switches, also weird shit like speed switches. This keyboard allows you to swap out the key switches if you don't like the ones it comes with. It is limited to Otemu, which of the big 4 keyswitch companies is considered the weakest. It goes Cherry≥Gateron>Kailh>Otemu>>>>>>Chinese no names. Sometimes Gateron swaps with cherry in the ranking, and Kailh does some unique and cool stuff like their box switches are really good, close to or equal to cherry or gateron. I'm typing on Kailh boxes right now. However, Otemu's are still miles above no name chinese knockoffs.

As for mice. The Bog standard starting good mouse is the logitech G203. I have the wireless version, the G305 and Personally, I find the shape of the mouse to be kind of boring. I prefer my ergonomic Roccat Kone Pure Owl Eye, as it fits my hand well, and the shape I like. A lot of people hate the shape of the Roccat, and a dude at work swears by the G203, which is funny cause the kone is superior in terms of internals.

The best place to pick out a good mouse is http://www.rocketjumpninja.com/ and his youtube channel here. I am not going to bother suggesting anything else, as hand size and grip style matter. I'm just going to say go there are research.

Oh I know the feeling. My girlfriend thought it was the funniest thing that I was so excited to build my own computer haha.

So I know you said you're pretty set on the keyboard, but I thought I'd show you this cheaper mech keyboard. There's even one that has RGB. I have the red backlit version and I love it so far. You could spend the difference on a 1070 I think.

Either way its going to be an awesome build!

Reddragon K552 is a great choice for the money, unfortunately it only comes with clicky switches (blue equivalents) If you'd like something a little more compact and with brown switches, the Drevo Gramr is also a great choice.

Personally - I have a Tomoko. I think it's great. It was a little loud so I would recommend adding switch dampeners, heres a picture of my board with Tai-Hao Dark Violet keycaps and some Key Pop 8bit Heart keycaps.

$1500 is not really the budget for a 144Hz build. You can get a PC that plays those games and you can also get a 144Hz display, but it won't be a PC that is suited for 144 FPS in new games. But in older games it will work, so maybe that is okay for you.

With https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824160177 as display. That will leave you enough money to get a keyboard like https://www.amazon.ca/Redragon-KUMARA-Backlit-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B016MAK38U and https://www.amazon.ca/Corsair-CH-9301011-NA-Harpoon-Backlit-Optical/dp/B01M9DDCKD as mouse. Step down to a 60Hz display if it gets too expensive.

But you maybe should experiment with ergonomic mouses instead. https://www.amazon.ca/Anker-Wireless-Vertical-Ergonomic-Optical/dp/B00FGI2QVC/ is one common form, https://www.amazon.ca/M618BU-Optical-Ergonomic-Vertical-Connector/dp/B00AYXUIO6/ goes a bit further (and wow, that's cheap). They aren't necessarily great for shooters, but for slower games they work well, and the second one especially is great as soon as you are used to it.

There are also ergonomic keyboard. With mechanical keyboards you have to consider that the keys can be harder to press (for the Redragon one that is actually unlikely). That can be good or it can be bad, depending on the user.

you may want to upgrade the keyboard and mouse.. you said you could go over $1000 and for this you may want to. that bundle is good for the price but that will not be very comfortable for gaming.. i would suggest the following if youre willing to spend the extra money on it.

a cheap but good mechanical feeling keyboard - i once had this one and can reccoment

and for a cheap mouse - [i also had this when i started on a budget] (https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-G300s-Optical-Gaming-910-004360/dp/B00RH6R7C4/ref=sr_1_25?ie=UTF8&qid=1493617332&sr=8-25&keywords=gaming+mouse)

There are plenty of keyboards at that price range. They may not be the best overall keyboard, but they sure as hell will be better than rubber domes.

Here is one of the first keyboards that I found on amazon for 31.67 Euros. It also has 790 reviews and a 4.5 star rating.

https://www.amazon.com/Redragon-KUMARA-Backlit-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B016MAK38U/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1493828126&sr=8-3&keywords=mechanical+keyboard

u/countmontecristo · 2 pointsr/battlestations

The keyboard is great. Coming from a membrane keyboard and the standard crap ones it was night and day. BLUE style switches. Very great feel. (1)

That beings said, if I had to do it over again, I would buy this one (2). Similar price. RGB, Blue style switches (or black switches), wireless and wired.

The key caps are solid. The pack also comes with a few different shift and enter keys so if you have a tall enter key, it won't be an issue. There's a bit of light bleed coming through the key caps (on the key itself, and not just where the letter is illuminated), but overall work great. (3)

You can get mechanical keyboards for $34, so I don't think that's worse than an i7 as long as people recommend the cheap ones, which they don't.

u/perseus1277 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Go to /r/MechanicalKeyboards . Also you don't have a price that can be used for figuring out what "budget" means. And lastly if you really want to go cheap most of the keyboards will probably have knock off blues, making them pretty loud.

But I am assuming by budget you mean about 59 or under. For that price i could recommend these two boards:

https://www.amazon.com/Redragon-K552-N-KUMARA-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B016MAK38U?th=1&psc=1

They are fairly cheap and if you really want it to be quiet you can pick up a pack of 100 or whatever amount of gateron browns, yellows, reds, it blacks from any store and just desolder the blues on the keeb already and resolder on the gateron ones ʘ‿ʘ

I also recommend getting the tenkeyless version of the Redragon. Unless you want a numpad, tenkeyless is cheaper, and looks much better. Also, if you have the money, the RX 480 is a much better budget card than the 950 im sadly using right now.

Edit: Just realized that the keyboard is NOT mechanical. I highly recommend getting a mechanical keyboard instead of a membrane.

An RGB Red Dragon Kumera and a Logitech G602 are what I suggest.

I'm using my Kumera now, and love it, and used my G602 for years before I sent it to my BF a few months ago. The battery on the mouse was so good, it was turned on in shipping, got lost, and still was on when my BF got it and opened the package.

You can also get the plain red backlit Kumera for ~$30.99 here if you don't want to fork over an extra $12 for RGB.

u/SomeTechNoob · 2 pointsr/buildapc

As pretty as the case is, it has shit airflow. Consider adding more fans, especially intakes.

The rest of the build looks pretty good though.

As for monitor, kb, and also assuming mouse:

Monitor: 144hz 1080p for sure. This one is pretty good: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/7fhgls/monitor_acer_ed242qr_abidpx_144hz_va_1080p_16999/

For a keyboard, consider grabbing a cheap mechanical. If you don't need a numpad, this will do the trick for the time being: https://www.amazon.com/Redragon-KUMARA-Backlit-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B016MAK38U/

Very happy with it. Especially at that price.

u/Milicona · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I'd personally stay away from razor, their products don't tend to last long before running into issues, and they are overpriced as well.

Go with a different brand like Logitech or corsair. For your typing experience it really comes down to the types of switches for the keys. Red switches are considered by many to be the best for gaming, blue switches are stiffer and provide a better typing experience in my opinion but work fine for games as well but are a bit noisier. Brown switches are the loudest, and should probably only be used for typing.

So in my opinion, go with a mechanical keyboard from any company other than razor that uses red or blue switches.

This seems like a good choice, unless you need a number pad. https://www.amazon.com/Redragon-K552-Mechanical-Keyboard-Equivalent/dp/B016MAK38U/ref=sxin_2_ac_d_pm?ac_md=2-0-VW5kZXIgJDUw-ac_d_pm&crid=IYAK9U1PPCEC&keywords=mechanical+gaming+keyboard&pd_rd_i=B016MAK38U&pd_rd_r=09716618-e63c-45d9-95e3-265e3fd28696&pd_rd_w=raWHR&pd_rd_wg=jw7Wo&pf_rd_p=64aaff2e-3b89-4fee-a107-2469ecbc5733&pf_rd_r=C3FQ6535BPN7SX7Z30MB&psc=1&qid=1565591070&s=electronics&sprefix=mechani%2Celectronics%2C167

u/Frawtarius · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I've never gotten this question, and I've never really outright asked. What is a "gaming keyboard" for you guys? Is it snazzy lights? A cool logo?

You can get pretty much anything beyond a specific logo on any non-gaming keyboards. You can get media controls on pretty much any keyboard, more or less. You can get non-gaming keyboards full-sized, or TKL with a separate numpad, or a 60% and learn to use Function layers more (which is what I do, and have done, for a while, for both gaming and other functionality on a computer). You can get RGB lights on keyboards that aren't designated as "gaming" keyboards (though, admittedly, these are mostly custom keyboards, as mass-produced, mainstream, ready-made keyboards are usually designated "gaming" keyboards when they have RGB lights).

The only thing I'd recommend you look out for is to make sure it has mechanical switches, because their lifespan is much longer (than typical rubber domes on most keyboards). Mechanical keyboards last years upon years upon years, and the switches can be replaced individually (should they fail) if you're up to open the keyboard's case; on the flipside, if you want a snazzy "gaming(TM)" keyboard, then those very often see early failures in the individual LED lights that make up the RGB lighting, which are far more failure-prone.

tl;dr: Pretty much any good keyboard is also a good gaming keyboard, because good keyboards are defined by their switches and their durability; media controls aren't really used in gaming anyway, and are usually substituted with Function layer keys anyway.

Also, looking around Canadian Amazon, I realized 150 CAD is a bit less than I thought (seeing as I'm used to dealing with pounds and euros), but you could just get something like this, which is at a very reasonable price (though I haven't used this keyboard myself). On the flipside, I would warn you against keyboards like this one, which say they use "Cherry MX Blue Equivalent" switches, because the "equivalent" - especially when they don't name the switch and just say it's "Custom mechanical switches" - usually means they're some really low-quality switches, and you might find them not being nearly as durable, and feeling really weird and mushy right out of the box.

For other alternate options, you could consider this one, or something like this, if you don't care about RGB lights (because it has a few less noticeable (but more useful, in my opinion) features, like double-shot PBT keycaps, which take much, much longer to wear out and develop a "shine" on the keys; and a USB type-C connector, which is really just more convenient and more durable than the old(er) microUSB or whatever other connector a given keyboard has). It has a Space Grey colour option as well.

At the end of the day, all you need to really consider is the size of the keyboard (which you can make a bit easier for yourself by getting a separate numpad, should you really need one), the switches (which will change how the keys feel when you press them down), and programmability (i.e. whether the keys can all be re-binded or not). Everything else is tertiary, and mostly just vanity.

u/lesziii · 2 pointsr/keyboards

As long as you don't mind 87-Key Keyboards, maybe have a look at Redragon's selection.

This is a daily driver under my budget board options.
Redragon K552: https://www.amazon.com/Redragon-K552-Mechanical-Keyboard-Equivalent/dp/B016MAK38U/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=k552&qid=1566521034&s=gateway&sr=8-2

Keycaps are widely interchangeable if that's something you want.
Outemu Blues are the switches in the K552. I own several Cherry MX Blue switch boards, I've come to prefer Outemu Blues over Cherry MX Blues, but this is only my opinion.
They're a little more tactile than Cherry's options.

If you're wanting an authentic Cherry MX Blue feel, the second board I prefer if I want a Cherry switch is from HyperX. This is another 87-Key.
HyperX Alloy FPS Pro: https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Alloy-FPS-Pro-Ultra-Compact/dp/B07BKHP2NK/ref=sr_1_4?crid=S3DLUM9NL9K3&keywords=cherry+mx+blue+keyboard&qid=1566521244&s=gateway&sprefix=cherry+mx+%2Caps%2C164&sr=8-4

Another great option and for the Cherry feel it's arguably one of the more cheaper options.
A little more on the gamer oriented side, with lower priced boards this is to be expected. I'd definitely suggest this to a gamer looking for a budget board that's not gonna wear them out on the MX Blue typing experience that fast.

Hopefully this has been of use to you, good luck!

u/Coffinspired · 2 pointsr/buildapcforme

> Keyboard: Cheapest tenkeyless keyboard with Cherry MX Red switches.

For whatever it's worth /u/grantthecreator - you could scrape $20+ off that Cherry MX Keyboard by going with one of those generic/knockoff TKL boards. They're everywhere, including Amazon w/ Prime.

If a budget was stopping you from a substantial CPU/GPU "tier jump" (I see you stretched for the 3800X), I would probably try to find that "loose change" elsewhere in the build and apply it there. In this particular build, I'd DEFINITELY try to find the few bucks for the 2060 Super over the OG 2060.

https://www.amazon.com/Redragon-KUMARA-Backlit-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B016MAK38U/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_147_t_0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=FR19RDK6PSJNTACCR3JS

And so on...there are tons of them.

I have over a year's worth of personal experience with one ("EagleTac" TKL w/ fake Blues from Amazon) on my GF's rig. She works from home often, types for school, and games on it - it gets used. It's still good as new - both the switches and lights. I've used it for typing and gaming and think it's absolutely fine. I was/am quite impressed with it for under $30.

If my reference point in PC's matters - I'm on higher-end stuff (2080 + dual 34" 21:9's - AW3418DW) and have been exclusively using Cherry MX's for years in K65/K95/Pok3r's...

IMO, blue style and brown style are the most "normal." I have Cherry MX browns in mine and I love it. When I tested the blues, I liked them as well, however, I wasn't a fan of the click sound.

Having never had this keyboard, $20 isn't a bad intro, but I wouldn't expect much. It would be a good way to see if you like mechanical keyboards or not.

Here's one that's been recommended by Linus for $30.

How good is this Redragon mech keyboard? My friend is planning on buying one when he builds his PC, and he's mostly concerned about the switch quality.

u/mythrilguy · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Can the Reddragon Kumara, this one, have custom keycaps? I assume it can because the switches are probably mx clones, but I wasn't sure because there are no questions or reviews that state you can on the amazon product page.

I got a new keyboard, and the Function keys don't seem to do anything when pressed. What should I do? I'm specifically trying to use the "play music" and "volume up/down/mute" keys, but it would appear as though they aren't 'linked' to windows. Or something. I don't really know what II'm talking about here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Again, I don't use that one daily, it's on my son's PC. My own 2 keyboards that I actually use have Cherry blues and browns.

  1. There are no RGB keyboards under $99. They may be "rainbow" (i.e. different colors LED per row, but still 1 LED per key rather than 3 for full color) for cheaper. If you want cheap, go mono.

  2. There is no specifically "gaming keyboard". The so-called "optimized response" sprouted by Razer is pseudoscience. There are keyboard designed with "gamerz aesthetics" but scientifically the difference is minimal to none.

  3. I am confused as to who are you buying this for. If you are buying it for him, and he's so cheap he can't even afford $50, why are you worried about Cherry switches or not? The cheapest MKB w/ Cherry on the market is $70-80. the Cougar Attack X3, but if you plan to go used you can find everything from old Razer Blackwidow (non-backlit) or old CM Storm Trigger to Corsair K60 (only some keys are mechanical) that it'd be pointless to recommend... It'd be up to you to do research on the fly.

  4. Cheapest MKB on Amazon is Aula Demon King TKL at $38, and ReDragon Kumara TKL at $40. Both with Kailh or Outemu blue switches NOT Cherry.

> What advantage does this have?

The fact I can simultaneously write code and look at documentation/videos/communicators, you name it. Also when you maximize an app it only covers one screen rather than your whole workspace. Comes in handy every day, working on just one screen makes me very sad. Imho a second screen is a great way to boost your productivity + it's also really cheap (you can pick up a used one for like 50-60€ easily and new ones are around 100€).

As for my complete setup (which is not semi-affordable, just to give you an idea on what people work with):

  • Desktop PC + Dell Inspiron 7570 from time to time (generally desktop unless I work at the office instead of remotely)
  • 34" 3440x1440 for a main screen + 24" 1920x1080. I used to work with triple screen but found a relatively good deal for that monstrous 34" and it replaces two smaller ones by itself.
  • Ducky One2 mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX Blue at home. Great indestructible keyboard, ultra loud but also very tactile. Feels great to type on it and it really makes me make less typos. In the office I use Roccat Ryos TKL with Cherry Brown keys. Not nearly as loud or tactile (but in exchange you won't get murdered by your coworkers) yet still very pleasant to type on. A luxury item really but I highly recommend one. Plus it doesn't have to be THAT expensive - you can find actually decent mechanical keyboards for sub 40$.
  • An adjustable electric desk - if you sit 8 hours a day your back will hurt and your life expectancy drops. So I bought one of these to counteract it so now I can alternate between sitting and standing. Imho a must have for prolonged professional work, definitely not something to do when starting out however (mainly because of the price, 450+€ is a hefty pricetag for a desk).
  • And a good chair. Currently I settled with one that more or less looks like this. A relatively costly choice but well, it's really one of these situations when you kinda want to give yourself some comfort. There are cheaper and durable options too however - eg. Ikea Markus is a good chair that doesn't break one's budget (and probably better than anything "gaming oriented"), the only problem is lack of any adjustment with it.

Here's all of the decent cheap ones I have saved on amazon. Only problem is that I think they're all cherry blue (replica) switches, so they're all pretty loud. u/SpuddaKing · 1 pointr/buildapc

Im in America, and im not sure what pricing is like there, but you're gonna have a hard time finding mechanical keyboards for 50 USD/70 CAD. Its near impossible to find a good rgb keyboard for that price. The Redragon K552 is pretty decent, although it is "tenkeyless". The RGB version is more expensive

u/lrawrl · 1 pointr/keyboards

I like the Qisan Magicforce as decent low-cost mechanical keyabord. The "60%" style version, (68 keys, no num-pad or separate F1-F12 row), which I am linking is exactly $60. If you want the larger full-size version, it's $70.

The EagleTech KG010 and the Redragon K552 KUMARA are both around $40 on Amazon and have many positive reviews, but I have no personal experience with them. All three of these keyboards use Cherry MX clone switches, so they have the same dimensions as Cherry MX switches, but the resistances of the keys are not exactly the same as official Cherry MX switches.

I have a Redragon K552 (RGB Backlit) and I love it! It is a bit loud but most mechanical keyboards are. The only downside is that there is no numberpad which is a plus if you are looking to free up some desk space for gaming or something. The colors are not as bright as I would like them to be but they are pretty to look at the key press is comfortable and responsive as heck. For $45 it is a very nice keyboard!

https://www.amazon.com/Redragon-K552-Mechanical-Keyboard-Equivalent/dp/B016MAK38U

u/sirhenrik · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

From the looks of the amazon link that I found it looks to be cherry-like clones, so in all likelihood other Cherry-clones should be compatible. Looks like it has static red backlighting, but I don't know if the backlighting is in-switch or on the PCB. If it's in-switch then that would mean you'll have two more joints to de-solder. In-switch LEDs are also usually inserted, soldered and the excess legs are clipped, so you might encounter that the LED's connector legs won't be long enough (ie. not protruding enough through the PCB to solder it back on) for the new switch housings of whatever switch you choose.

Assuming the switches are MX Cherry clones, then all you need to do is de-solder them, take them off the PCB and solder on a new one. You can search for a de-soldering through-hole components tutorial.

u/Algebutter · 1 pointr/bapcsalescanada

I find I save a lot of money (non-essential items) on buying a low-cost option first (a 25-30 dollar mech for example). After I learn what I need//want, I'll then have a good idea for what to splurge on.

More often than not, then low-end is more than good enough for me and end up happy with my purchase (e.g. no need for premium SSD) but YMMV

It is a small, compact mechanical keyboard with red LED's.

I have the RGB version that includes the numpad, but if all he needs are red LED's I see no reason to pay more for multicolored lights and a number pad. This keyboard is small and compact, perfect for a crammed desk.

Now I saw you ask earlier to describe the difference between mechanical and non mechanical. Mechanical keyboards give you a very clicky feel and they are a little loud, so if he games in the living room it may be a bit distracting. I personally love mechanical keyboards for gaming, as they make you much more aware when you actually hit a key. With standard keyboards, they feel very mushy and often you may hit another key or two by accident and not even realize it.

TL;DR: Great mechanical keyboard with Red LED's for $35 before shipping and taxes. Perfect for gaming and typing in case he needs to use his computer for schoolwork. Tell him happy birthday from the Reddit community!

Ever since I went with a mechanical keyboard I have been basically unable to use anything else. So "budget" is relative since mechanical keyboards are much more expensive than other, lesser keyboards. Keys with good haptic feedback and backlighting is a must for me - if you don't need these things than you can find cheaper keyboards.

There are a couple of relatively inexpensive mechanicals out there.

Alternatively, you could just add colored keys to a standard keyboard. Gives you the "easy to identify" aspects while everyone gets a standard QWERTY keyboard.

Throw them on a cheap mechanical and you'll probably never need to buy another keyboard. That is, if you aren't a mild addict like I am.

Word of warning, I just picked the cheapest MX Blue (clicky type of switch) keyboard, you might want a MX Brown / MX Red for the sake of your eardrums.

IMO the $30-40 mechanical keyboards on amazon are great, the $80 keyboards from logitech or corsair might be sliiiightly better, but personally I can't tell the difference in the feel of the switches. If you just want something mechanical, then I would suggest getting one of those cheapo boards, they have pretty good reviews and they don't seem to have reliability issues. If brand name, software support, macro keys, rgb backlighting, etc, are important to you, then go with logitech/corsair/etc

The red back-lighting is also really nice, but can only be adjusted for brightness, though there is an RGB model with more lighting modes.

For $5 more if you want red backlighting you can get the Red dragon keyboard with the same switches. That one is pretty solid too but the Aukey is still not a bad buy at $25 if you don't wanna get into the $50 range for keyboards

It just so happens to fit perfectly around the dell keyboard. The four rubber legs keep it above too so you won’t get any unnecessary key strokes from underneath!
Picked up the wood wrist rest off eBay and a few artisans from here!
I’m new and this is pretty simple compared to the works of art I’ve seen posted on here but hope it helps (>’-‘)>

Any keyboard ever (to a point) would be good for gaming. It's all down to what you enjoy using, not what a company says is best.

If you wanted to get a mechanical keyboard that's decent for not a huge amount there's the Red Dragon and Aukey.

u/TeraBaap365 · 1 pointr/dubai

I have the Tomoko MK (Blue switches) it's not the best and on par with the higher costing MKs but for the price, you can't go wrong with this one. If you're on a budget and looking to save some money this is it. It'll cost you around 180 DHS including shipping and customs.

Or you can go with Redragon K552 KUMARA, this has Red led on it (if that is something that you want in your MK). I have seen some reviews on it, sounds like a good budget MK, but can't say how it performs against the Tomoko.

Thanks for trying to help with my question, so let me help you :p

I've used these for a long while (until I got a Razer Mouse and Keyboard a few months back)

E-Blue Cobra Mouse

Red Dragon Mechanical Keyboard

Keep in mind though, this should be good as temporary or when you're new to PC gaming, but I do recommend upgrading to brands with more quality control! (Side note, I still prefer my E-Blue mouse over my Razer)

Someone whose TV has broken, someone who has just moved out of their parents house and doesn't have their own stuff yet, someone who watches everything on a tablet?

>I wouldn't consider a $25 keyboard acceptable. $25 mouse can be fine.

That's your personal opinion, plenty of people would be perfectly happy to game on a cheap keyboard. but if it's because you only like mechanical keyboards, you can get them for under $30 now

Are you going to be gaming on this PC? I hate recommending mechanical keyboards for people that will be gaming with friends on an open mic. It really does get annoying when you hear CLACK CLACK CLACK CLAKCLACKCLACK through the mic.

This is a great keyboard for the money. 4.5 stars from Amazon reviews, even after filtering out the incentivized reviews. $34 for green switches (of course not Cherry branded at this price point) and it has red backlighting. https://www.amazon.com/Redragon-KUMARA-Backlit-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B016MAK38U

The Green switches are both a tactile and a clicky (loud) switch. You can both feel the tactile bump and hear the "click" that occurs when the activation point is hit. ... If you are used to lighter switches you may have trouble at first getting used to the feel of Green switches, as they are a stiff switch. Of course, I am not sure if this will hold true for this off brand. It may be quite easy to press, who knows.

There is also a cheaper non-backlit version, and a $50 RGB backlit version.

Here is an interesting offering for only $30.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N57WL39/ref=psdc_12879431_t2_B06ZY9YV1N

Blue switches, so it will be clicky (loud) and tactile. Blues are considered similar to Greens, just easier to press.

EagleTec also makes cheap mechanical keyboards worth a look. You might find an LED design from them that will go great with your build.

u/TourneyCollector · 1 pointr/mechmarket

Best way to do it is get a card board box + some switches and a controller and then you mount the switches + controller on the cardboard box + hand wire them all together. This probably won't even cost you $35 and it will be a fully functional board.

There is also this for only $40

u/The_Royal · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

If they are Cherry MX Compatible, yes absolutely. Ones like the RedDragon Mechanical Keyboard use “Outemu” Switches that are a well known Cherry MX equivalent. I’ve seen this board recommended a few times to the newer community members looking for the cheapest options out there.

Some brands like Logitech should be avoided IMO. They use switches called “Romer-G” Switches that use proprietary keycap mounts that are incompatible with the common MX-Mount Keycaps you see all over this Sub.

u/100percentDeplorable · 1 pointr/hardwareswap

Unlikely you'll get genuine Cherry MX keyboards at that range, but in my experience, Outemu has done a solid job with their switches. There are many good deals on Amazon, I like this one - https://www.amazon.com/Redragon-KUMARA-Backlit-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B016MAK38U/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1499847711&sr=8-3&keywords=mechanical+keyboard

BTW, you can get that monitor for $300 if you wanted to re-allocate funds.

Hey guys, looking for some expertise from the most clacky subreddit out there!

Just started grad school and, as part of the program, was given the new MacBook Pro, complete with it's awful butterfly switched keyboard (boooooo... ). So:

u/Vadrigar · 1 pointr/battlestations

Here's a cheap alternative that I'm using.

u/PancakeDictator · 1 pointr/buildapc

I have a friend who got one after his razer blackwidow broke, he likes it, but says he definitely prefers mechanical switches. I use this https://www.amazon.com/Redragon-KUMARA-Backlit-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B016MAK38U and personally love it, but if you're really into RGB the K55 doesn't seem like a bad option.

u/Dolinare · 1 pointr/BulletBarry

Two real choices come to mind here:

This is a surprisingly good offering from Redragon, right around $35. They aren't Cherry MX switches so the quality control isn't going to be as good on them, but getting Cherry switches below $50 is difficult as it is.

Here's a pretty comparable choice from EagleTec. Again, build quality and consistency will be somewhat lacking, but that's kinda what you get from budget computer hardware in general. This particular one is just a little bit more than $40, but finding mechanical keyboards at that exact price point is somewhat difficult as it is.

I don't have any personal experience with either of these keyboards, and I'm not entirely sure about the reputability of either Redragon or EagleTec, but the reviews on both products are good, and Amazon has a pretty decent return policy just in case the product just craps out on you.

I wouldnt worry about it. iKBC makes high-quality boards. "Real" cherry switches are no better than many of their competitiors, such as kailh switches and gateron switches, and generally tend to feel worse. If you do a search of this forum (which I strongly recommend, so that you learn more about mech boards in general), you'll find that most serious enthusiasts do not like the feel of cherry switches unless they have modified them in some way - such as taking them apart to apply lube, or swapping them into the housing of one of their competitors. "Real Cherry" is a marketing gimmick, and if this is your only concern, you can save money by getting a "knock-off" board for much less.

As for stabilizers: this is a case of you get what you pay for. Off-the-shelf boards with great stabilizers include: vortex vibe (60% + numpad), and the vortex race (75%, no numpad), but these tend to retail for around $130 USD. Other more expensive brands, such as leopold, have great stabilizers too. Rattly stabs are easy to fix, in any case.

Other brands you might look into: Coolermaster makes solid entry-level full-sized boards, and they have excellent stabilizers, and does the brand Ducky. Rosewill is another option: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00S5E4LX0/ref=s9_acsd_simh_hd_bw_bk38zb_c_x_w?pf_rd_m=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-3&pf_rd_r=5K7ZA2QY682GE8P8EK93&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=0717e713-00ea-5675-b7dd-2d1ae0cbad07&pf_rd_i=680461011

Another option still is RedDragon: https://www.amazon.ca/Redragon-KUMARA-Backlit-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B016MAK38U/ref=lp_680461011_1_8?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1523199659&sr=1-8

Cooler Master: https://www.amazon.ca/MasterKeys-Mechanical-Keyboard-Switches-Keycaps/dp/B072C516B9/ref=lp_680461011_1_18?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1523199659&sr=1-18 .

And yes, fees tend to be higher in Canada.

If you are really, truly, concerned, I would spend the time to do some keyword searches in this forum. I dont mean this offensively, but a lot of your concerns are fairly noobish and reading up on what other people say will probably assuage them, and make you feel better about spending money on whatever board you eventually do get (I speak from experience on this). Your keyboard needs are fairly straightforward, so you should be able to get a solid board that meets them without spending more than you want to.

I would highly recommend the mechanical keyboard if your budget will allow it, but the other one is also pretty good. The mechanical will most likely last much longer (assuming you don't smash it to bits with a hammer or something) so that might be a better long term investment, so at least take that into consideration.

If you want something good that is inexpensive i can recommend this. If it has any flaw at all for a mechanical, clicky-as-fuck-and-loud-without-headphones-on, 100% anti-ghosting, TKL, illuminated, and sturdy enough to kill someone with (and still function perfectly), $30 keyboard it's that it is driver-less (so no macros and sadly it can’t remember brightness levels between restarts). It doesn't bother me though since the default max-brightness is not an issue and red seems to be the best color for an illuminated keyboard (eyes are too sensitive to green and blue, whereas red is 100% unnoticeable in the peripheral vision unless you look down at it). Honestly I think real cherry blues would be slightly better but the “professional” keyboards just seem stupidly overpriced after being exposed to this one. EDIT: I forgot to mention that the switches on this thing can be pulled out and swapped if that's your thing, or if any should happen to die (its stood up to my abuse for many months so i'm not worried).

Heres one,another,a third

Personally now that I have been using a mechanical for over a year I'm so used to it that it pains me to use anything else.

Also if you live near a Best Buy they should have some on display that you can try so you can see what switches you like and if it is worth it to you.

Maybe a Redragon? There are also RGB models for about $10 more. This one has Outemu blues (clicky) AFAIK which are pretty solid switches.

this is the cheapest led backlit mech i know of

edit: you should also specify what switches you want, this only comes with cherry mx green clones.

How about this, its mechanical and cheaper than the logitech

u/alexskate · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

lol wtf it's like 45$ iirc on amazon.com

I don't know, this should be below 50$

For 10 more dollars you could get this

http://www.amazon.com/Redragon-K552-Backlit-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B016MAK38U/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1464164070&sr=8-2&keywords=reddragon+keyboard

I've used it for about 2 months (first mechanical keyboard) and to be honest i am very impressed and i dont think i'll ever be able to use membrane keyboards again lol

have heard great things about this guy considering how cheap it is

Please do not downvote me just for being unfavorable toward this otherwise great deal. I have provided objective reasons for why I feel this way. Please hear me out.

I guess it's better than a rubber dome + membrane keyboard, but if you have even $15 more to spend on a keyboard then don't get this (cheap mechs on amazon are better).

Romer-G switches are really no fun. Their primary design goal was to have even lighting. They do that well, but don't type well as a result.

EDIT: Here's an review covering this. A key issue with Romer G tactile switches is that the tactile bump is so weak, that the switches are nearly linear.
