The theologian Mark Strom, in his book Reframing Paul provides some interesting context and analysis of this passage, including on historical context at the time (such as rebellion of - IIRC - the emperor's daughter by shaving her head like a prostitute, amongst other things). Strom's historical background on Corinth is invaluable, and sheds light on this and many other things discussed in the letters to the Corinthians (including the role of hair and head coverings for both men and women in Corinth at the time). He has some very good input that highlights just how out of context some of these teachings have been taken over the years.

This is a liberal evangelical example, but will give you more of an idea of how they combine language research and historical context research if you're interested. It's a very good example of this type of scholarship and demonstrates incredibly well how modern-context readings of basic English translations miss the mark so easily.
