Personally, I prefer the Rii MX6 for the keyboard, comes in handy & works with SwiftKey predictions without the keyboard being on screen, too.

It's $15 instead of the $150.00 for some oh so great remote+hub+usb-mic.

It's not BT, it uses an usb dongle. The mic works and records audio, but the mic button doesn't invoke assistant. So you have to select the voice icon, wait for the assistant prompt, then press-and-hold the mic button to talk.

It's backlit and has a keyboard in the back. It has a gyro, so the keyboard is not active when it's up-side-down. It's also an airmouse to use with some sideloaded apps. The power button is IR and can learn from your TV remote. It also have media buttons. The media buttons includes the skip fw/bw buttons instead of the useless fw/rw buttons on the Alexa Fire remote.

it's far from the perfect remote but it's my go-to with the Shield. In addition to this MX6, I also have:

  • Harmony IR remote
  • Q5 Bluetooth
  • New Alexa Fire bluetooth remote
  • old Minix A2 remote
  • my TV remotes also work with the Shield (CEC).

Rii MX6 probably meets your needs. Good remote with a programmable IR power button. A few niggles for me:

  • Voice works reasonably well, but pressing the button won't trigger the assistant. You have to engage it on screen first. (Same problem for all non-official remotes I've ever encountered.)
  • You have to press any button first to wake the remote, then press the button you want. Sleeps after just a minute or two I think.
  • Numbers and alt characters on the keyboard are really hard to see when the backlight illuminates. Dark blue on black was an irritating design oversight.
  • OK button is mapped to 'enter' rather than 'select' I think, so very occasionally that might trip up interaction with a poorly programmed app. For instance, some single button games won't work properly. Minor issue though.

    Also worth saying as your device is not officially certified as an Android TV device, there might be some other issues I'm unaware of.

    Otherwise it's a good remote and you probably won't find a better one for your specified needs currently.

Minix Neo A2 Lite is about as good as it gets, not backlit but just an awesome remote.

This will be my next remote purchase. I know people with Rii who vouch for it and this model looks great.

You could consider getting an air mouse. I use the Rii MX6 Wireless Airmouse with my Shield TV. It works great in navigating Chrome on the Shield.

Think about an alternative remote too. I've had the Shield for over two years and just got a Rii MX6 remote. For me it's the perfect Shield remote.
