Hi and welcome to AB!

  • The basics of any AB routine are oil cleanser, foam cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. You're currently missing an oil cleanser and a moisturizer. Unless you'll be keeping the CeraVe and Neutrogena, but even then you still need an oil cleanser.

  • The Cosrx BHA is a good substitute for the Stridex.

  • The Cosrx Galactomyces is a first essence, so it's not like other essences. It's applied immediately after foam cleansing and before a toner. This doesn't replace anything from your original routine, but it is a good product for evening skin tone.

  • The Hada Labo Lotion is a hydrating toner, despite it's name. It should be applied after the Cosrx first essence. If you're looking for the actual moisturizer version of this product, look for the "milk" instead of "lotion".

  • The Biore sunscreen is a fine choice.

  • The Benton Snail Bee Essence is another great choice. Some people find success with this product in multiple departments because it has lots of good ingredients in it.

  • So for an oil cleanser, you have lots of options. For a cheap option, go for the Kose Softymo Deep Oil Cleanser. For a slightly more expensive option, go with the Banila Co. Clean it Zero. You can find either of these on Amazon if that's what you prefer. You need to oil cleanse when you wear sunscreen and/or makeup. This clears out all the gunk from your skin.

  • For a foam cleanser, look for something low pH. Good examples would be the Cosrx Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser and the Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Cleansing Foam. (also can be found on Amazon)

  • For a moisturizer, you can keep using the CeraVe if it works for you. If you want an AB option. Check out the Holy Grail Megathread on the sidebar for good suggestions.

That's all i've got. Feel free to ask questions. :)

I'm pretty okay with my routine so far but I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for new things for me to try. I'm just hitting 30, have combo skin with deep acne scarring (boxcar & icepick), PIH, and large pores (hurray for me...).

AM Routine:

  • Water / raw honey mask: Splash face with lukewarm water and 3-4x a week apply honey to skin while damp, leave for 10-15 minutes, then rinse off.

  • Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid / Paula's Choice 8% AHA Gel: I alternate them and only use acids every other day. Wait 20 minutes after application.

  • Paula's Choice Resist C15: Sample, switching to OST once it runs out, use every other day after the acids. Wait 10 minutes after application.

  • Benton Aloe BHA Toner: I kind of want to switch to a more moisturizing or nourishing toner but I'm not sure. Wait until absorbed.

  • Benton Snail Bee High Content Essence: Love it, probably won't change it, it seems like it isn't doing anything because it's so innocuous but it doesssssss. Wait until absorbed.

  • Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel: Really awesome for the humid S/S season but I feel like it just isn't appropriate for the super cold and dry F/W. I was thinking of trying Glossier's Priming Moisturizer, EltaMD AM Therapy, or Rohto Hada Labo Shirojyun Arbutin Milk but can't decide. If there's something even better I'd certainly try it.

  • EltaMD UV Lotion Broad-Spectrum SPF 30+: Originally intended as a body sunscreen. Works well, doesn't leave too bad of a white cast, but has a greasy finish. Usually not a big deal since I'm housebound, but I want something more cosmetically elegant that will play nice with all the layering I do. I was thinking Rohto Hada-Labo UV Moist Emulsion SPF 50/PA +++ or Missha Time Revolution White Cure Blanc Sun Protector SPF50+ PA+++. Any suggestions are welcome.

    PM Routine:

  • Mineral oil: I use pure mineral oil as an oil cleanse and usually spend about 10 minutes very gently massaging my skin. I want to try a fancy cleansing balm or oil, but I'm not sure the added expense is worth it.

  • CeraVe Foaming Cleanser: 3x a week I use a zinc soap recommended by my derm, otherwise I'm fairly happy with CeraVe. I'd like to try MRCS but it's not very likely I'll be able to buy it any time soon. Wait 5-10 minutes after cleansing.

  • PocketDerm Treatment: Tretinoin 0.04%, Clindamycin 1%, Azelaic Acid %7; I use three pumps for my face and neck. Wait 10-15 minutes after application.

  • Missha Time Revolution First Treatment Essence: Just started this and haven't noticed any amazing changes so far but skincare products take time to work so I'm being patient. Wait until absorbed.

  • Missha Time Revolution Night Repair Science Activator Ampoule: Immediately makes a noticeable difference in my skin, especially under my eyes. Wait until absorbed.

  • EltaMD PM Therapy Moisturizer: Lots of niacinamide, great cosmetic finish, feels fantastic in general but is a rather light nighttime moisturizer so I always need a little exta oomph in F/W.

  • Benton Snail Bee High Content Steam Cream / Laneige Water Sleeping Pack EX: I alternate the two as a sleeping pack. Not sure how impressed I am with the Laneige versus just laying on Cream + Vaseline at night.

    Weekly:

  • 3x a week: Sheet mask on days I use the Laneige sleeping pack, MBD Bird's Nest or Black Pearl. Some of the other varieties cause a mysterious mild rash on my neck. Want to try Benton and Innisfree masks next.
  • 1x a week: Green clay mask with turmeric, ACV, and honey.

So many suggestions to make!

Vanicream is less irritating than CeraVe in the tub.

At night I layer Rohto Hadalabo Shirojyun Albutin Milk underneath Sebamed Clear Face Gel. If you're still not getting enough moisture, put a little Vaseline on top to seal everything in while you sleep.

Good luck!

Stupid question: If I copy and paste a product from amazon, will it automatically contain a referral link if I'm logged into my amazon acct?

Does this one contain one? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001U0PEZU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Your face sounds like mine, and I had been messing with my moisture barrier for too long. These two moisturizers have been a godsend for me:

(1) Rohto Hadalabo Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion This isn't really a "moisturizer" per se, but it helps bring and keep moisture to the surface of the skin.

(2) Rohto Hada-Labo Shirojyun Arbutin Milk This is an emulsifier, technically, but on top of the hyaluronic lotion, it works as an amazing moisturizer.

Yes! I use both Hadalabo Moist/Rich version and Hadalabo Arbutin Milk as my emulsion.

Sasa is doing a big sale to US, Canada and New Zealand these few days, with free shipping over $29 if you're interested!

At what step do I use this lotion in my skincare routine?

I usually follow a pretty lengthy process including:
Oil cleanser
Second cleanser
Toner/toner lotion
Actives
Face oil
Moisturizer
Heavier sleeping mask/pack if skin is feeling super dry
