The whole concept of a Smart TV is dumb. If you want the best possible streaming experience, then you need to have a nimble solution to pick and choose the best streaming box(es) and apps. You need popular platforms that are well supported (Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire) that have a large market share, lots of developers, and are routinely updated. I've had the same Panasonic plasma panel for 14 years now. In that time I've gone through 3 generations of Roku, two generation of Tivo, two generations of Apple TV, three different DVD/BlueRay players, and three gaming consoles. Even "commodity" TV's last at least 3 to 5 years. I get app updates on my Roku every day.
