These are super cheap and almost too bright to look at. Bought a bunch to sew inside light colored clothing and wrap on bike. Am very happy with the results.

I'm so over the last minute, impulse purchased el-wire ready-to-wear kits that I've had spotty luck with. Less than four dollars for an LED light string? That's insane, and cheap enough to pack a few spares without adding too much to the "suddenly costing you more than you planned" budget.
I went cheap. These worked great, batts lasted all week. In fact they still work now. Need to remove the batts and clean the box when home but they pasted the playa test.
These were one of my favorite things I brought to the burn last year (these and canned black olives, that is (⌒▽⌒)
I'd wrap a string around my hips, maybe one loosely like a long necklace, and stuff one in the mesh netting part of my CamelBak at night, so I'd be fully illuminated.
EL wire is great too, of course, but I like the string lights, because with EL wire you can see exactly where it is (in a tangled mess in my CamelBak, for example), so it's not as aesthetically pleasing as the string lights without a little bit more work. String lights are a lot more forgiving and really good for when you're already drunk and realize the sun is going down and don't want to be a darkwad, so you can just wrap them, shove them, string them, etc. anywhere.
Lastly, thanks to the Big Ticket Fiasco (and having school the day the tickets went on sale and trusting a friend to get my tickets who turned out to be very untrustworthy), I'm not going to the Burn this year. It kept really bumming me out until I decided that I could send my burner friends to the playa with a bunch of gifts to gift out and it'd be like a part of me was there with all of you. This is my very first post in this community, so someone please let me know if it's against the rules, but I would like to gift you some Burning Man swag. This is in no way to curry favor or try to win the contest or whatever- I just want to gift to a fellow burner and help my own selfish wish of having something I made on the playa this year.
I just got a new die-cutter, here is a pic of a decal I just made for my car. Would you (or any other burners in this thread, for that matter) like a couple? As per the rules, I have to mention that since they're "personal items" and not from Amazon itself that you have to be comfortable PMing me your address so I can send them.
Obviously, I can cut more than just one shape, so let me know if you have anything special in mind. Right now I only have black and blue vinyl, but I'll be getting red, white, gold, and purple in a couple days (⌒0⌒)

Yeah you can go to just about any craft store this time of the year and get a little battery operated pack of lights.
I would sew the pack to the inside or back of stocking and use a knife to puncture holes through the inside of the stocking to so they the wire is not visible.
Then depending on how far you want to go with it you could just do it randomly or attempt to make it look like a word. Randomly would be a lot less time.

With LED lights you're dealing with much smaller bulbs than traditional lights, but they also put off brighter light. Another advantage would be making the incisions into the stocking to get them to be visible since they are much smaller.
