The USB cable that came with my Note 3 was a piece of crap - it would only charge if I held my phone in a very specific way, without touching it. If I moved it even slightly, it disconnected and wouldn't charge. I bought an OEM cable on Amazon, it works perfectly.

Mr. Washington, I have this device thingy that helps me tell no lies and it only works with this long stringy thing. If I don't get it then the world will be FULL OF LIES and we don't want that now, do we? But at what cost?
