If you want a gaming PC on the go for school that will play whatever you throw at it, just get an MSI GS60 Ghost. Your budget easily supports it.

It has an i7-4700HQ, 12GB RAM, 1TB HDD + 128GB SSD, Nvidia GTX 870M graphics and a 15.6" 1920x1080 display. It's also amazingly thin and weighs only 4lbs.

If you need an optical drive, you can get an external drive. it's easy to tote around even if you need it to be on the go with you.

May be worthwhile to spend the $20 or so to get one of these to keep on hand for cases like this. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-SE-208DB-TSBS-External-Drive/dp/B009QBIZ60/ref=zg_bs_1292113011_6

Yes, as long as your computer has the capability (decoding hardware/software, your MacBook does) all external DVD drives can play back movies.

I really like the Samsung drives. I have this one, but the Samsung model you mentioned is just a little newer/smaller/more expensive.

If you're using a USB 3.0 thumb drive, sometimes the Windows 7 doesn't play nice with that. USB 2.0 is slower, but I haven't had any compatibility issues there.

The most reliable method I've used is an external optical drive. The slowest option, naturally, but its external nature makes it easy to migrate it from one PC to another (and laptops increasingly come without an internal optical drive). Amazon stocks some pretty solid units for under $30.

Pretty much any brand-name external DVD-RW drive will be fine. I just found a particularly sleek-looking one from Amazon.

As far as your build goes, it all looks good, but the 750W power supply is unnecessary. You could get this 650W power supply for less, and while 650W is still more than you need, the 550W version of this actually costs more without the rebate.
