Why didn't you just buy a low-profile USB stick and boot a live Linux distro off of it?

Something like this

I use Sandisk's Ultrafit for permanent additional storage for a Surface Pro 4. Among other things, it is used for ArcGIS data. I have found it to be the lowest profile option and is very reliable.

Congrats on getting the car! I'm in Canada so I thought I would post some of what I bought.

Here’s some of the bits I bought and I noticed I got a lot different items than most people got here

I want a console wrap but haven't pulled a trigger yet

Floor mats
https://www.partsengine.ca/u-guard-3d-kagu-maxpider-floor-mat-in-black-p-54811.aspx
apparently Costco and 1010tires carry them but I got them from there

The trunk mat from tesla is nice.. I got that as well
https://shop.tesla.com/us/en/product/vehicle-accessories/model-3-all-weather-cargo-mats.html

there’s two usb ports up front. I unplugged one of them and put a usb drive in and it records the dashcam, and also records out of the various cameras while it’s in Sentry Mode

I got that one because it’s super slim. Just make a folder on the drive called TeslaCam and then put it in the car and it knows to do the rest..

the lights in the trunk are SO dim they are useless. I got these. They pop out and the cable is just a clip so really easy to install and these are so much brighter and cheap. Worth the upgrade

amazon.com items
little mats that go in the cup holders

makes it easier to clean when milk gets spilled in there

no tire place will work on your car without these little plastic protector pucks. They go under the car on the jack lift points, then they will lift the car up. I had to order these for when I got my tires changed and I leave them in the car.

Here is a 256GB thumb drive that has been working well for me;

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07857Y17V/ref=pe_2640190_232748420_pd_te_o_gc_ti

It is small, and might be missed in a dark compartment by any thief in a rush :-).

Only USB 2.0 speeds are supported on the USB-GDROM, which is okay because 2.0 spec read is faster than the GD-ROM. Though all USB3 can be used in 2.0 devices no problems.

I bought this 256gb usb drive and have had no issues with it, USB3 speeds are nice when loading the drive up with images.

Protip; save your phone, get an itty bitty flash drive, load it with your music, and put it in the USB drive on your car. No power issues, no data issues, all you need is a computer.

u/Bardem · 2 pointsr/gpdwin

The newer model doesn't have the heat issue, I've heard. It isn't made of metal like this one.

Those are all security tokens, not flash drives. For a flash drive I usually keep a SanDisk Ultra Fit in my laptop bag.

Hopefully prices will keep coming down on these. I've been considering this flash drive as well but reviews are kind of varied.

u/plz_sapnupuas · 2 pointsr/KerbalSpaceProgram

What size is it? You could get a low profile USB drive up to 256gb. You can install games to it too. Though I recommend it just for file storage.

I've successfully used/tested a SanDisk 256GB, Seagate 1TB & Seagate 4TB drives, none with their own power source & all via OTG.

Thanks, everyone, I really appreciate all the comments. I'm not sure if there is an issue with my SSD because it seems to connect to both my Mac and PC intermittently. I'm going to return it and today I'll be getting one of these:

SanDisk 256GB Ultra Fit USB 3.1 Flash Drive

Hopefully I won't have issues. I also like that it's super small and not a big box laying in the compartment.

Thanks again,

Vic

So you're backing up flash cards to the USB flash drive? That's be a nice thing to automate, insert the card, script auto backs it up to a new folder, clear the card and then there's an indicator (speaker, LED, etc.) to let you know it's done.

I almost bought the same flash drive for my Pi this week, but noticed a 256GB version just came out.

If you're still in the lookout for a storage solution, I've been using Sandisk Ultra Fit 256GB. It's the only one I've found with this size with the super small form factor. So far so good. Amazon link

I understood that line as write speed=15X4=60 MB/s whereas one may read it as 15X standard=4 MB/s which I'm guessing you did? I googled around a few other benchmarking sites and they seem to indicate write speeds somewhere in between the two readings of what's on the sandisk website. . 1 2 3 4 Let me know if I'm missing something obvious here.

Cloud storage should be perfectly fine if you're encrypting your data - there are many free and open source solutions to facilitate encryption which will protect data against intrusion (i.e. your PC's operating system would be a more likely vector for data breach than an encrypted file with a long password on private cloud storage space).

That being said, you should be using encryption on your data with any storage solution (if you aren't already).

If you have less than 256GB of data, you should be able to get away with an external SSD or USB flash drive (recommend keeping at least two separate, encrypted drives in two separate physical locations to guard against theft/fire/etc) so you're probably not looking at spending too much to ensure security and business continuity.

This SanDisk Ultra 3.1?

https://www.amazon.it/SanDisk-Ultra-Unit%C3%A0-Flash-Velocit%C3%A0/dp/B07857Y17V

How did you format it? I can't get it to work, neither with OTG nor with powered HUB.

u/zaise_chsa · 1 pointr/AskTechnology

You could always get something like this or get a regular hard drive and tape it to your computer.

u/mavis99 · 1 pointr/miniSNESmods

I think I just happened to take that pic while it dipped in write speeds. I was getting much much higher than that at some points. This is the USB Flash Drive I'm using. Should this do the job ok? https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-256GB-Ultra-Flash-Drive/dp/B07857Y17V/
