"Fast" is a relative term. You don't need and can't take advantage of the fastest cards there are, anyway. Get yourself something reliable (In my opinion, Sandisk or Lexar only), and fast enough to be fine a year or two from now in case you upgrade your camera body without breaking the bank. Don't bother with the "Pro" lines. I'd recommend the Sandisk Extreme series. Amazon currently has 8GB for $32.51, and 16GB for $50.98.
One person in this thread has suggested Transcend. I have had not just one, but two different Transcend cards garble my images - I won't trust them again. They're cheap, to be sure. But it's my opinion that the term "cheap" is not limited to the cost, but also extends to the quality. The Sandisk cards I mention above are great cards - very reliable, and fast enough to get 14 frames before running into buffer problems on a Nikon D700 (as an example) instead of the 12 frames that the Transcends would do.
Another person has suggested an SD-CF adapter. DON'T do this. SD is much slower, and adapters can add issues with this. Stick with CF.
If you're looking to save time downloading the images to your computer, I would also recommend a faster memory card reader. This $38.10 Lexar dual-card USB reader can do both CompactFlash and SecureDigital, and is very speedy.
