I'm looking to build in November (birthday). I've been looking at this SSD but saw a good looking 240 GB deal on amazon. Is the deal worth an extra $50 to get the extra 120 or so GB's? Basically should I go ahead and get this one now or wait for an even better deal between now and when I decide to take the plunge and start buying?

Build I'm playing around with

Feel free to modify my build as well if you see fit. Looking to cap close to $1500

u/csmith1991 · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

I agree completely, don't get me wrong. That's why I had the word best in quotes. That said, you can get pretty good sales on the 840 Pro from time to time. I got the 120GB 840 Pro for ~$90 iirc.

On the other hand, I'd currently recommend a 240GB Sandisk Extreme SSD for bang per buck purposes.

Edit: That said, I'm not sure how it compares with the Seagate 600, which is about the same price.

Edit Edit: They're about dead even.

It's now $180 at Amazon as well if you don't like Buy.com. I payed $180 (incl. tax + shipping) with 2-day shipping at Buy.com and got points back.

From what I can tell, this is an extremely fast and reliable drive.

AMD 7950>> 660ti unless you need Physx and Cuda

Get an 840 Pro or one of these instead of that SSD and youll also need a HDD

Really I'd say the most popular right now is crucial m4 SSD's or Samsung 830 and 840 pro SSD's.

Here's a good deal on a pretty good SSD.

This sale will save you $50+.

Otherwise, everything looks good. PSU is overkill (you don't need more than 600-650W for a single card, and ~750W if you do), but that's your decision.

u/walrus4lyfe · 1 pointr/buildapc

Dont get that case. 2 Gpus are going to get really hot, you're probably gonna want a full tower.Or at least not a mid tower thats made for portability. Just from personal experience. Also here is a cheaper ssd that also preforms extremely well!

For only a couple bucks more

I'd rather order through Amazon. Their return policy and customer service is unmatched IMO.

$155+$6 shipping // 161 vs 168.

Apple pretty much doubles the correct price for RAM and SSD upgrades. Seriously, compare this to what apple wants you to pay: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006EKJ8UI/?t=slicinc-20&tag=slicinc-20

Looking at your list, I am guessing you have a Microcenter near you. The manual priced items can be bought at microcenter as bundles. If you buy motherboard/cpu combo, they give you $20 discount on already discounted RAMs and SSDs. Not to mention that microcenter's haswell/sabertooth combo is cheaper than any combos you can find out there.

For the hard disk and ssd though, pcpartpicker can't find those parts so i have to manually input the price.

So for storage, you can use SSD for your OS and HDD for dump files. The SSD is 240gb, meaning you can install your favorite games there too if you want.

Fractal case is probably one of the best 'quiet/silent' cases out there. It has noise dampening pads which helps keep the noise down.

If you want to add additional case fans, get noctua or scythe.

Since you plan on overclocking, you might wanna get liquid cooling. I personally have no idea which liquid cooling brands are quiet, so pick whichever you want. I have nzxt kraken x60 and it is pretty quiet from low to mid, but can be a little loud when you put it in extreme RPM.

I happen to have that nzxt phantom 410 case too. Not gonna lie, it looks pretty sleek, but compared to the fractal case above, i'd choose fractal. It has much more space plus the it's quieter.

Also, there are a lot of reviews that show windows 8 is faster than windows 7 when it comes to gaming, but the difference is not by that much. The only problem about windows 8 is its new user interface and a few compatibility issues with some softwares/games.

I would suggest to get most of the parts from microcenter/amazon/newegg. Amazon and Newegg doesnt have tax (well.. depending on where you live). For free shipping, get amazon prime trial for amazon and shoprunner for newegg.

Your budget is $1800, you can change stuffs up like i5 to i7 or other ssd brand since you have like $90 remaining.

It is SanDisk's attempt at a high-end SSD. It is the last thing in the PCPP list under "Other." Here is the link to the amazon site for it. It is supposedly a decent SSD. Not quite as fast as an 840 Pro but still damn fast.

http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Extreme-2-5-Inch-Solid-SDSSDX-240G-G25/dp/B006EKJ8UI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370724508&sr=8-1&keywords=sandisk+ssd

Well, I paid $170 for the 240GB SSD I put into my computer two weeks ago. Amazon Link

SSDs are a lot nicer to use now that Steam lets you designate a secondary Library folder on a different hard drive to install games onto. So for me, I keep my important games (Paradox Games!) on my SSD and put less important installations onto a larger, regular hard drive. The OS goes on the SSD as well for sweet, sweet bootup times.

> Furthermore Amazon raised the list price to much higher than they ever were

Wow, crappy. I did some quick searching to see if anyone had the "$399" samsung drive with a list price at $399. The closest I found was one site that stated list price at $299 (still $100 lower than amazon claimed); the rest claimed even lower list prices. I suppose it's telling that none of the 3rd party merchants on that listing are selling for more than $250 either.

I expect better from amazon :|
