Not likely related to the update since you can't format it on PC either. FWIW, pny and kingston are the only two brands of flash memory I've ever had fail on me.

Stick with Sandisk or Samsung.

You can already buy them stupid cheap. I have two SanDisk 256GB cards I got for $33 each. One is in my Switch. The other is in a drawer until I figure out what to use it for. Maybe my PSP.

Amazon had the 400GB card on sale the other day for $46

The 512GB card was on sale yesterday for $57.

Anything small, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, 64GB can be had for like $16 or less.

128GB for like $25

400GB - $57

256GB - $38

200GB - $33

128GB - $20

64GB - $12

32GB - $7

16GB - $6

Not sure how much cheaper you expect them to get.

u/Mkilbride · 35 pointsr/buildapcsales

It's not really that big of a steal. Normal price is 49.99$ for the NEWER model...and it's on sale for 40-45$ on Amazon.

microSD Card|Price|Cost per GB|
Sandisk Ultra 64GB|$15.99 (36% Off)|$0.25/GB|
Sandisk Ultra 128GB|$26.98 (21% Off)|$0.21/GB|
Sandisk Ultra 200GB|$34.99 (40% Off)|$0.175/GB|
Sandisk Ultra 256GB|$51.99 (65% Off)|$0.20/GB|
Sandisk Ultra 400GB|$99.99 (60% Off)|$0.25/GB|

Except for the 64GB and 400GB these are Black Friday level cost/GB. The 400GB deal is still great, being the largest and newest on the market.

The Switch only supports UHS-1 cards, which have a 104MB/s max read speed. SanDisk Ultra cards are listed as being up to 100MB/s. The load time of a digital Switch game hardly changes between slow and fast read times. Eurogamer found a 0.3 second load time difference between a 30MB/s card and a 90MB/s card. For most users you want to consider capacity (how much do you need) and value (cost per GB), not speed.

I’m so glad you asked this question before buying. First of all, no question is silly. The daily question thread is exactly for these types of quick answer questions.

Do not buy the Nintendo official SD cards. They’re way way overpriced. I’d buy either a Sandisk or Samsung 128gb Micro SD card ($40), as that size give you best bang for the buck. I’ll link a couple below. If you want something smaller or bigger, just let me know.

I’m one of the mods here, so welcome to the subreddit!

u/oozles · 15 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Here is a video that goes over current SD card specifications pretty well. I'll post what I got out of it and a little bit of additional research:

There are three different types of SD cards that indicate a size range. SD cards are up to 2GB and are useless for our purposes. SDHC cards are from 4-32 GB and are ill-advised since 32GB isn't really enough. What we're interested in is SDXC cards which are from 64GB to 2TB. Each card has a micro version which is what we need. Capacity type doesn't have an impact on performance.

There are two different families of speed classes that indicate a minimum write performance. The first, traditional speed class comes in Class 2, Class 4, Class 6, and Class 10. The number corresponds to their write speed, Class 2 is 2MB/s, class 10 is 10MB/s. This class is denoted by their number inside of a "C".

The other family of speed class is UHS. There are only two types, type 1 and type 3. These are denoted by their number inside of a "U" shaped symbol. UHS1 writes at 10MB/s, UHS3 writes at 30MB/s. That means the Class 10 and UHS1 have the same minimum write performance, but we're just going to look at UHS cards from now on. It is possible for a card to claim a UHS class speed, and a Class 10 speed.

Bus Interface

There are two different bus interfaces for UHS cards, UHS-I and UHS-II. These are denoted by roman numerals rather than our numbers. UHS-II cards have a second row of connection pins on the back of the card, while UHS-I just has the single row. UHS-II cards can transfer data faster than UHS-I cards when they are in a UHS-II compatible machine. If the machine is not UHS-II compatible then there is no benefit, however the UHS-II card will still work as it is backwards compatible. It does not look like the Nintendo Switch is UHS-III compatible, so there is no benefit to using a UHS-II card in it, which is a shame because the II interface can help read speeds tremendously.

So what is Nintendo recommending with OP's card? A microSDXC UHS3-I card. Meaning it is a micro version of a 64GB card, with the best write speed class, and the standard/worse Bus interface.

Nintendo-licensed Sandisk microSDXC 64GB UHS3-I for $19.99

Non licensed Sandisk microSDXC 64GB UHS3-I card for $23

/u/Nobody_is_lurking posted two contenders...

Sandisk microSDXC 64GB UHS1-I card for $14.25

Sandisk microSDXC 128GB UHS1-I card
for $23.25

...but it isn't actually an apples to apples comparison, as they are both UHS1 rather than UHS3. The $6 question is how big of a difference is there functionally between the two speed classes when actually being used by a Switch, which someone already took the time to test!

The results show that, when write speed was involved, the difference was significant, and that installed games can go by 3x faster using a UHS3 card. So sure, the UHS3 is a clear winner for installing, but what people really care about are load times, showed a less drastic story. Installing locally on the Switch beats any external storage options that we're looking at, then the UHS3 trailed shortly behind, with UHS1 following a little longer. For a regularly installed game the difference in load times doesn't seem to be more than a couple of seconds, even if the load time is a minute long. This guy also tested homebrew launched games though, which did show a much bigger difference between UHS1 and UHS3. So there is a difference in load time, but just not a massive one that many people would notice.

Looking at value, for whatever reason the Nintendo-licensed cards are currently cheaper than their equivalent nonlicensed cards, both the 64Gb and 128GB. Obviously the UHS-1 is cheaper than the UHS-3 across the board.

But if you want to branch away from Sandisk you can have the best of both worlds with a Samsung 64GB UHS3-I card for $15 The price per MB stays consistent at bigger sizes as well, so if you wanted a 128GB one it'd be $30.

tl;dr Buy this one. It is better and cheaper.

u/GRtheRaffler · 14 pointsr/buildapcsales

Difference between this and this?

u/ndscable · 12 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

I highly recommend anyone looking to do memory expansion for their Switch to not go with the particular version of the Sandisk Ultra microSD cards. You'll be better served getting either this Sandisk Ultra or the Samsung Evo that /u/Squidula linked to in his comment.

Both have 100mb/s Read/Write speeds versus this one's 48mb/s speed. Some games may lag or just not load at the lower speed and it's only going to be more and more of a requirement to have the 100mb/s speed in the future.

u/cowsareverywhere · 12 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

For 4K recording, spend the extra and get faster cards with 100MB/sec read and write speeds. This One is pretty great but I am not sure how much cheaper it will be in the coming days.

This Samsung card is also pretty great.

First thing you need to ask is when did you buy your switch? If it’s June of this year or after it’s probably got a hardware patch and you can’t hack it. You can check here by serial number.

If your switch is exploitable then go on amazon and get yourself an sd card (may want bigger storage depending on how many games you’ll want) and a jig.
Alternatively, you could get an SX Pro, but unless you don’t mind spending extra money, it’s kind of overpriced and everything you need to do without it is pretty cheap and easy.

It’s easiest to let your switch format your sd card to exFat, but DON’T update to 6.2 FW yet. It’s cracked but CFW hasn’t been updated yet. set up 90DNS.This is so you can use internet apps like YouTube and even play some games online later on non-Nintendo servers without worrying about Nintendo detecting your mods. Also, FYI the switch lan play works on OFW and banned switches as well.

Then backup your clean NAND using hekate
VERY IMPORTANT you do this BEFORE you load any CFW or autoRCM for the first time. The only way you’ll ever be able to go back online to eShop and play online on official Nintendo servers is to restore your clean NAND backup (removing CFW). Also keep in mind your fuse count will need to be the same when restoring this so try not to update your FW (even using offline methods) unless you do it without burning fuses.

Then follow instructions here to setup ReiNX (CFW) and a few other important programs and settings you’ll need.

Then go get Smash and have fun!

>I’m currently using the original memory card that came with the Switch but i’m trying to upgrade for the upcoming games.

Was this with a bundle or something? The Switch doesn't normally come with a memory card.

You mean this card? Considering that the same card without branding is $12 cheaper...

Honestly, if you can wait a couple weeks, I'd wait for Black Friday to get a 200+ GB card for cheap.

u/Scapetti · 7 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Hey, don't get either. Get the non Nintendo branded official sandisk https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-128GB-microSDXC-Memory-Adapter/dp/B073JYC4XM/

It's not only cheaper than both but you can go even higher in size, up to 400gb (you will probably want this eventually). It's exactly the same as the Nintendo but without the Nintendo brand I believe. I would get it over the Samsung. It's what I have and is perfect for the Switch.

When you get it, before you start using it, go to the format options on your Switch settings and make sure you format it. This will ensure it works correctly

I'd recommend the Butterfox case instead of the licensed one, since it's more versatile, aesthetically pleasing, cheaper and fits more stuff. (i.e. ac adapter). If you want this one than make sure it's the 9 cartridge one, since that's the newest version. Also a 128 SD card class 10 will most likely go on sale this coming black friday/cyber monday.

u/Es_Poon · 5 pointsr/Dashcam

The hard wire kit is supposed to cut power off if the battery voltage gets too low to prevent draining the battery. I may test to see how long it records with the car off to see if it will be something I do.

I'm not familiar with types of SC cards so hopefully mine will work. It suggested a class 10 so I got the SanDisk Ultra.

I have all sizes. 32GB, 64GB, 128GB... Just got two 128GB cards for two new cams. I even put a 200GB card in as a pinch once. I've had no issues.

u/DapperUnion · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The Switch comes with a card, it is just slow and small in space.

If you physically buy every game on the switch, you won't have much of an issue with space. It becomes an issue when you digitally buy games. I personally prefer digital, as it makes taking it on the go with me much more simple. I still get hard copies of some good single player games that I like collecting the cases for.

Sandisk 128GB Micro SD $19.99

I use this card for my switch, and you will not run out of space even if you buy most of your games digitally. If you won't buy many games, then you can opt for the 64GB card for $12.

  • I also use Sandisk for my cameras, go pro's, drones. Sandisk is a reliable company.
u/Death_Masta187 · 4 pointsr/PSP

So decided to dig out my old psp slim and mess around with it again. I could not find any info online about using anything bigger than a 64GB MicroSD working at all so I figured id give 128GB card a go. If it didn't work then Id just have a new 128GB card to use in my Nintendo Switch.

I have a psp 2000 flashed to 6.60ME-1.6 (I have not even checked to see if there is a new CFW since this version)

Bought this microSD to memstick pro duo - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00176F2RC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and this microSD - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B073JYC4XM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I used gparted in Linux (this is just what I run as my OS) to delete the exfat partition and recreated it as fat32.
I see no reason why disk management in windows (and what ever apple uses) as well to delete/recreate the partition as fat32.

Once I put the card into my PSP is said the card could not be used and needed to be formatted. so I let it format. Once it was done it reported all the correct free space. copied over all my iso and games run just fine. from me testing load times in GTA:VCS went from 26.56s to 31.41s on the new SD card. Also most psp takes a few more seconds to boot. but I suspect that's because I have 11x the number of games on the card. overall a few seconds added to load times is worth having over 120GB more space.

Edit: Ignore the date and time being way off in the picture. My original battery had swelled and so I took it out. I was just to lazy to keep setting it every time I plugged back in the charger. Thankfully the 1800mwh sony battery I used as a pandora battery(just found out you could turn it back into a normal battery. haha) looks fine and still holds a change (I used double sided tape to hold the bigger battery in place and got almost 6 hours in gta-lsc before it needed to be charged). just waiting on an extended cover so I can use it fully.

The 128GB version is only $32 : Sandisk Ultra 128GB Micro SDXC UHS-I Card with Adapter -  100MB/s U1 A1 - SDSQUAR-128G-GN6MA

The same cost per byte for 128GB is excellent!

u/realwords · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Unfortunately, this is not a good deal.

The same card is available for $19.99 at Amazon, and a similar card is available for $17.87 at Amazon.

u/Ravenswood10 · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

So I recently got a 128gb micro SD card (https://www.amazon.com/Sandisk-Ultra-128GB-Micro-Adapter/dp/B073JYC4XM/ref=dp_ob_title_ce). When I put the micro SD card it, it says it must be formatted first and offers to do so. I choose to format the micro SD card, and then it says it's been formatting and will restart in 3 seconds. The system restarts, and I get the same message, my micro sd card needs to be formatted and offers to do it. It's weird because I'm not getting any sort of error code. It appears to format properly until the system restarts. This cycle just repeats. My switch software is fully up to date.

u/MeaninglessPeacock · 4 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

Amazon also has a similar deal a little bit more expensive but no $4.99 flat shipping

u/Lorben · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The Switch doesn't support external hard drives. You need a micro SD card.

A SanDisk Ultra is the usual recommendation. Whatever size your budget allows.

The switch definitely has the possibility for many accessories. I'll link all the stuff I've bought at the end because I would recommend all of them

There is built in storage but not enough. I will recommend any micro SD card that's either 64 or 128 gb depending on how many games you plan on downloading. If you're going mostly mobile eshop games would definitely be more convenient.

As for other items, I love my pro controller but its not a necessity. I also only use it at home so it might not be for you.

You need a case for it, no two ways about it. The good news is that they are pretty cheap. There's cases that just carry the console, that carry the console and some extras, and that carry pretty much everything you could want to carry. Unless you're taking the dock often, I would just suggest a case with some extra storage.

I'd suggest a battery bank. There are a million options out there, and most of it has to do with cost. Just buy a size you like from a trusted brand like anker, ravpower, or aukey.

You also need a screen protector, because the plastic screen is not exactly durable. Anything works, but I would recommend tempered glass.

And this case but it’s very basic and I don’t take my switch out of the house often and the price here is marked up as it was only 19.99 when I got it. Plus it only hold 8 games but I like the flap that covers the screen when it’s in it.

Hope this helps

I know this isn't technically necessary for PCs, but I believe I have seen them pop up here every once in a while. I figure I might as well ask before pulling the trigger.
Does $45 for a 128GB SanDisk Ultra Micro SD card seem like a good deal? I've been holding off on buying a memory card for my Switch for the longest time but have finally hit the internal memory cap (yay Nintendo with their generous 32GB internal memory :P).

I use this one in mine, works fine once it's formatted to FAT32:

u/Gen_Tsos_Koolaid · 2 pointsr/AndroidQuestions

>What is the lowest read/write speed that is enough for storing images and videos? For apps?

You'd be ok with a class 10 micro SD card if you are not going to be recording 4k video. Class 10 SD cards are good for photos and full HD video(1080p). Regarding apps, all of them should be ok.

>I've heard that pixel devices can configure SD card as internal storage. Can someone explain that to me?

Basically the phones OS sees the SD card as an extension of the phones internal storage. This can be a good or bad thing depending on how the OS handles storing information. If the SD card fails, some apps and/or app data may become corrupted and most likely will have to be reinstalled. I'm spit balling on this one. I've personally never experienced this first hand on a mobile device, just PCs.

>Can it be used for installing apps on SD card that don't allow to be on SD card?

That depends on the example above. How the OS sees the information. However, if you're using an app to move apps to the SD card, then only those apps capable will be able to be moved. Most of the time it's not even the full app that was moved, just some of its functioning data.

>Does encryption decrease the amount of space or read/write speeds in an SD card?

No, but it does slow down the read/write speed of data. Additionally, I would recommend encrypting something before data is put on. This way the sd card/drive will encrypt faster.

>Why do SD cards have less space?

>Is encryption revertable?

Yes, and it will take longer to decrypt if there is information on the drive.

try searching the ASIN.

for instance, take this product (not a shirt, but the process should be the same):

The ASIN is B073JYC4XM

so we do a Google search for that ASIN

first result is the Amazon listing. I also see a link to CamelCamelCamel as well as the following link:

where someone posted a link to the product in a forum, and their link includes an affiliate tag (the &tag=b0c55yh-20 is their affiliate link)

u/subterraneanbunnypig · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Are you in the US? If so and you can hold out, you are going to find a bunch of great deals on Micro SD cards on Black Friday/Cyber Monday, so I'd wait until then.

Regardless, $34 is expensive for a 128gb micro sd card. You do not need to use a Nintendo-licensed micro sd for the switch - any micro sd is compatible. It's not like the Vita/PS TV where you need Sony specific cards.

EDIT: Just looking on Amazon shows a Sandisk 128gb micro sd for $22.88 https://www.amazon.com/Sandisk-Ultra-128GB-Micro-Adapter/dp/B073JYC4XM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1540956803&sr=8-1&keywords=128gb+micro+sd

Something like this would be fine. Sometimes Amazon can have fakes, purchase through Amazon, do some googling on how to identify if it's fake or not.

u/TemptedTemplar · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Try a new micro SD card.

If that one isnt working, but it does work in other devices; then try a new card. 128Gb start at $20.

If the new one doesnt work with the switch, then its something wrong with your system and will likely need repair.

If the new one does work, then congrats; because 16gb wasnt going to last very long anyways. Heck some games cant even fit on a card that small.

If you get a Micro SD Card along with a Memory Stick Duo adaptor, make sure to verify that the SD Card is a legitimate card with its advertised storage capacity with H2testw on your computer. You'll likely need to insert the Micro SD Card into the included Micro SD Card to SD Card adaptor to insert it into your computer. It can take hours to verify the entire SD Card, but this should allow you to figure out right away if it is a counterfeit card like the one you had before. If it says that "The media is likely to be defective," it is a counterfeit card, and the program window will likely turn red to alert you to this fact. Otherwise, it is likely to be a legit card.

Oh, and when you insert it to the PSP for the first time the PSP system will tell you to format it. Do so, otherwise it cannot be used. If it fails, try formatting it as a FAT32 storage device using your computer. I hope this helps your decision.

If you're looking for an SD card, I found this 128 GB Micro SD Card for around $20. https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-128GB-microSDXC-Memory-Adapter/dp/B073JYC4XM/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=SD+CARD+128+GB+SANDSIK&qid=1558658866&s=electronics&sr=1-2-spell

What else is there to say other than it just worked? Seems to work great with the Switch. I paid $40 which is pretty good. The SanDisk one is also supposed to be pretty good and it's on sale as well:

I would personally go with one of those two.

Size is subjective. I got 128GB to be on the larger size. Wasn't a huge jump in price and figured with the way I'm going to use Switch I will most likely need it. So rather than buy another later on I just spent the extra to get the big one.

u/Aspirant_Fool · 2 pointsr/techsupport

Acer's website says it supports SDXC cards - they're not super expensive.

It'll still be a hassle, because you'll have to do some additional work to make sure you store everything there and keep the built-in 32GB as free as possible for Windows updates and stuff, and it won't be as fast as an SSD, but short of replacing the laptop, I think it's your best bet.

What sort of size are games these days? I ask as got a Switch about a month after it came out and buy a mixture of physical and digital. I got 128GB SanDisk at the time and only now is it close to full. So I was thinking about this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-microSDXC-Memory-Adapter-Performance/dp/B073JYC4XM?ref_=Oct_DLandingS_PC_965d5514_0&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE though I am a bit loathe to give Amazon my cash. But either way, I see people talking about much higher cards but I assume they are just buying tons more digital games than me (I tend to buy one a month, mixture of Indie and Full Price games).

u/Kmorri09 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Get a name brand memory card (Sandisk, Samsung, etc.) and get the fastest speed. 64 gigs should run you ~20 bucks, 128 should run you ~40 bucks. Anything much cheaper than that is a scam.

u/annoyingone · 1 pointr/wiiu

I have used this without issue since January but just for backup save files and modding files. I recommend and external HDD because its faster and SD cards are not really designed for constant use. And you get so much more space per dollar with a HDD.

u/PM_ME_MEMES_PLZ · 1 pointr/ipod

Yep that would be it. Real quick does this look legit to you. it's $3 less than sold straight from Amazon and you just have to wait until March 30th. I'm a little wary buying sd cards from anyone but Amazon. Is the risk not worth the $3.

I was reading that the switch only supports UHS-1, those are USH-3 so you wont be able to take advantage of the difference of speed. I'm actually going to buy one this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073JYC4XM/ for a few dollars less.

u/DesignerNail · 1 pointr/technology

And specifically I'm talking about this one, which they still have up: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B073JYC4XM

Take a look at the reviews, especially recent ones. It seems they were selling a real one initially and then they started selling the fake one. It's wild that Amazon still has it up after all these people have had the same problem. And by wild I mean we should have heeded the warning of those old soothsayers who told the young ones that Jeff Bezos may seem like he sells dreams and the future now, but he is seeking to fuck us all in the ear, and lo, once the market is captive, he will fuck us all in the ear.

I'd get the fastest one that's a reasonable price. Considering the price segment of the laptop I'd assume the SD card slot is USB 2.0.

Stick with major brands so you're less likely to get a fake card. This SanDisk is $40 for 128 GB which isn't bad.

u/fenrirofdarkness · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I would say the Sandisk 128GB should be good enough, unless you'll be buying a ton of digitals. I personally went with 128GB rather than any higher since I'm only buying indies for digital :D (Unless we're going to get a lot of retail digital only titles that plague vita).

And the only one I remember is Hollow Knight... which is coming soon it seems :( Hopefully very soon!

u/xelf · 1 pointr/tablets

Anything with a micro sd card will do. You can put a lot of movies onto micro sdcards for very little money. They're also a lot less bulky than an external HD.

Any Tablet that supports OTG/USB Host will work for using any USB device too.

microSD > Thumbdrives > external HD.

I'd recommend a Kindle FIre HD 10.

  • $150 https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01J6RPGKG/
  • $9 Amazon OTG Cable https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B075CTBSGJ/
  • $36 128GB microsdcard https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B073JYC4XM/ (or $80 for the 256GB)

Not going to find a better solution for under $200. You're going to have a hard time finding a better solution for your needs for under $1000 to be fair.

If you decide you want to do more with it than just watch movies, it's very easy to add the google play store and get access to all the google stuff as well. I know some people are worried about only having access to Amazon's appstore, but it's easy to add, many online guides, If you can read reddit you can manage it.

u/khedoros · 1 pointr/PlaystationClassic

It's super-variable. Some SD cards have trash speeds, and some would work well. Since micro SD cards are often used in smartphones, there's an "Application Performance Class" rating that was added fairly recently. You could look for cards that advertise the "A1" rating, like this one, or you can look for SD cards with similar benchmarks to the USB keys.

>Which looks to be a class 10, at least as far as I can tell. And yeah I usually prefer my games physical, but for the Switch Im pretty sure Im going to be using it mostly as a handheld system, and Im a bit of a butterfingers which is why for my New 3DS I pretty much went all digital for that system. Just to avoid constantly swapping out my games and potentially losing one while traveling or at a friends house lol.
>I have another question for you though. When I was reading up on it, it said that the system can be expanded to have up to 2TB of memory. The wording confused me a bit. Im thinking in terms of every other system where you have to outright replace the memory unit. But this sounds like the initial 32 is embedded, and you have something like additional slots to fit the extra SD cards. Is that true?

It's also possible that Alcohol 120% isn't mounting the image correctly. I create CDI images using DiscJuggler and Daemon Tools 3.47 in a Windows XP virtual machine, but obviously that's not the most trivial thing to set up. An alternative way of creating Rhea/Phoebe images is to use Daemon Tools Lite and CD Manipulator; both of these programs are free and work on Windows 10. The correct settings for CD Manipulator can be found here.

Question about Micro SD card prices on Amazon - Are they legit cards?

So I just bought a Vita Slim model a few days ago and finally got it hacked and then last night finally got around to ordering a SD2Vita card adapter. So now I'm looking for between a 32GB and maybe up to 128GB as that would be more than enough space for what I need. My question is are the low prices I'm seeing on amazon for these micro SD cards actually legit cards? The Sandisk cards in the link are $20 for a 128GB card. I know nothing about these micro SD cards, so is that a good price on a card that size? Thanks in advance, any input would be appreciated.

First thing, I’m looking at storage. I’ve found this on Amazon SanDisk Ultra 128 GB microSDXC Memory Card. Is 128gb a good amount to get started with a mix of physical and digital games? The price ~£15 seems excellent so want to make sure it’s not slow or unreliable.

Also, are there likely to many sales around Black Friday? Be that for the console or games? Additionally, can I start buying eShop games that are in sale, so that when I get the console, I can log in and download them all?

u/pronoob5 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I purchased a microSD card on amazon that follows nearly all the requirements for compatibility and it is not recognized. After it didn't work I looked on amazon again and there is a near identical microSD card that is Nintendo licensed and 12 dollars more. The one requirement that is exceeded is the transfer speed at 100MB/s which is over the 60 - 95 MB/s listed. However the Nintendo card also advertises transfer rates of 100MB/s.

I am led to believe that the switch can handle reading at 100MB/s but writing at only 95MB/s. If this is the case then the Nintendo branded card is 12 dollars more so that the write speed can be 10MB/s slower? Also 12 is after prime discount, listed price the difference is 30 dollars.

I have no other uses for microSD cards so I would prefer to not spend more money on another card just to confirm that the Switch is damaged. If anyone can confirm that it is in fact a compatibility issue I suppose I have no choice but to buy the more expensive card that has the same specifications. Otherwise I will attempt to contact support for repairs.

EDIT: Also after browsing the sub a little more, the SD I bought is literally linked as a recommended card so I am inclined to believe the Switch is damaged

SanDisk Ultra 128GB microSDXC Memory Card + SD Adapter with A1 App Performance up to 100MB/s, Class 10, U1 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B073JYC4XM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_uug-BbYV9CBZ4

u/Mr_Crabman · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Is one of the below SD cards better than the other?:

And the same question, but for the 64GB versions of each of them.

Both of these were in the subreddit wiki on SD cards:

But I don't know if one is better than the other for the Switch. In particular, I'm concerned about the speed.

u/Trophlin · 1 pointr/Dashcam

I would purchase either Samsung EVO Select or SanDisk Ultra A1 since they are known to work reliably in dash cams. I would choose Samsung over SanDisk.

u/phaedruspress · 1 pointr/thinkpad

>Are you looking for microSD cards?

Yeah, sorry. I neglected to include some pertinent info : )

Micro SD card reader

Is this hardware compatible?

I know that this is not the best storage solution but I have never had a card reader before and I wanted to check it out.

u/TheCochese · 1 pointr/Switch

The 128gb version of this is basically sold out. Any issues if I go with this one instead?

Or should I go with a UHC-3 card?

u/Grundy9137 · 1 pointr/ipod

This one.

I don't have one of those, I used the built in card reader on a 2011ish laptop

While the "gaming" SD card moniker is overdone, there is value in getting a faster SD card in some cases. I'll use an example.

Here's the Nintendo Switch co-branded Sandisk MicroSD 128GB, currently going for $54.99 on Amazon.

And here's the 128GB card that people often compare it to, also from Sandisk.

Wow, only $26! Who in their right mind would buy the Nintendo co-branded one for just over twice the price!?

The proper card to compare it to is this one from Sandisk.

This is the same exact card as the Nintendo co-branded one, and comes with an SD to MicroSD adapter. It's also $43.79 at the time that I'm linking it.

It should be noted that prices fluctuate, and I bought the Nintendo one for ~$45 a week ago, while the non-branded one was ~$55.

Which one should a gamer get? Realistically, they should have near identical read speeds, and therefore, load times for games that are installed. The two more expensive options are faster at write speeds by a noticeable margin. This helps with game installs, larger saves, and any other write-based task. IE, most won't notice.

Most users should get the cheaper model. For those who think that they need the additional performance (I didn't, I was kidding myself), get the cheaper of the two similar Sandisk models, or a similar rated product from another brand that you trust.

This is going for $22 right now and Samsung’s U3 sd card is at $25.

u/dcresistance · 1 pointr/anime

Niiiiiiiice. The speakers on it are amazing. And the S-Pen is easily one of the most useful accessories to ever come with a phone. Here's a fantastic video covering a ton of stuff you can do with it.

You can snap up a 128GB microSD card on Amazon right now for suuuuper cheap. $27. Or you can go for a 200GB one for $45, or a 256GB one for $65.

u/OckhamsFolly · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

If money isn't a HUGE concern, I'd recommend a 200gb card instead. It's pretty much the same cost/GB, before they start exploding in value with the 256+ cards.

Make sure you're looking at micro sdxc, UHS-1, and something over 80mb/s speeds (the Sandisk Ultra is 100mb/s)

200gb UHS-1: $85, currently on sale for $69, $/gb=$0.35

128gb UHS-1: $50, currently on sale for $42, $/gb= $0.33

If you don't mind switching them out though, there's nothing wrong with getting multiple smaller cards. It won't cause any problems (presuming you change the card with the system off). A 32gb card (e.g., the same amount as the internal memory) is like $13.

u/Prowler_in_the_Yard · 1 pointr/AndroidQuestions

One final question (and you've been a lot of help!!) would this be okay to get?.. Or even the 200GB one? I don't know what SDXC and SDHC are.. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073JYC4XM/ref=twister_B07B3MFBHY?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

EDIT: Shit.. I don't even know where to find out if my phone takes SDHC or SDXC

u/kindrudekid · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

FYI thats the transfer speed. marketing gimmick, sandisk has stopped providing write speeds.

as per actual specs, it does do 100 mbps read but write speeds are slower. Check the stats on amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073JYC4XM/ref=twister_B074PKFVV3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Lexar shut down their business and I would recommend jumping on their 633x series cards, target recently had them on clearnace.

Or go to GoPro's list of recommended microsd cards and get that one. https://gopro.com/help/articles/block/microSD-Card-Considerations

u/jaxspades · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

So what's the difference between that card and this one on Amazon, besides $15? Only wondering because Amazon has it at $50 normally and Best Buy is saying theirs is normally ~$160.

u/Energokinetic · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I just bought this microSD card:

and when I tested it on Crystal Disk Mark and H2Testw, it reported 20something Mb/s write and 32 Mb/s read speed. That's way off the advertised 100Mb/s "transfer speed" (which I assume is write speed?). Looking at it closely, and also looking at the box I can't spot any signs of it being counterfeit. Did the included SD sized adaptor somehow screw up the tests, or is this marketing 101?

u/Android100101001 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Actually, Amazon has right now a GREAT MicroSD card deal. I just bought a 200GB one.

u/awperatorbang · 1 pointr/SpawnWave

Here's one I just found on amazon. Pretty sure this is what your looking for.

u/Daredawk · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

This one looks like a newer version. I just got the 200GB for $50. Awesome for my brand new Switch.

Like this?

Is there any real difference between ultra and extreme? If it's just to shave a couple seconds off load time I'm not worried, but if there's more to it then that..

Edit: Went to the SD card FAQ and it's actually one of the recommended ones. So I will get this. Thank you!

u/bigmandan775 · 1 pointr/3dspiracy

that's a rip off. $20 from Amazon.

u/Chaosritter · 1 pointr/vitahacks

Just bought a Vita and need to pick a SD card for the v5 SD2VITA adapter.

At this point the choices pretty much boiled down to a 128 GB card from either Samsung or Sandisk for ~20€, a 200 GB Sandisk for 27€ or a 256GB Transcend card for 34€.

Figures alone would make the Transcend the obvious choice, but I haven't used their products yet and I'm kinda vary of Chinese brands. I also don't know much storage is reasonable, I intend to install Vita, PSX and PSP games.

u/theonlyredditaccount · 1 pointr/Surface

I'd go with the i7. It is nearly twice as fast, because it is an 8th gen CPU. (5000 benchmark v. 9000 benchmark) and I think you'll encounter better battery life on it as well.

You can always opt for a 128gb microSD and the adapter it needs to expand storage for about $70.

128 GB Sandisk Micro SD for 31.99 on Amazon. Its 20% off. I think its a good price, if anyone is looking for a good Micro SD.

u/kurlin · 0 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

They are both UHS-1, there is not a difference other than the switch logo. You may be looking at a different card.

I got this one and haven't had any issues with it

u/kaplanj23 · 0 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I would assume this is your listing then. When you scroll down to popular reviews there are 2 from 2017 saying how great the product is, but then 5 in a row 1 stars saying they were fakes. But when I filter by date on all reviews there seems to be plenty of 5 stars in the same time-frame as well. So I was just asking around. Glad to see you got a good one! might take my chance as well. Considering sold by amazon I could always return just didnt want any issues with my switch.

u/pipedream- · 0 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

You can pay 14$ more and get the A1 rated one on amazon. Still a good deal on this card tho

u/bizcocho1305 · 0 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

i would recommend you this one.. but there is tons of SD card that would work great on the switch, and the size really depends on how much games you have, and mostly if you prefer digital games over physical..

The main thing you should look for are that is an UHS-I or better or with U1 or better..

This one is another option, its a little more expensive due to better data speed, but specially for the switch both will work exactly the same

u/deathbladeishere · -1 pointsr/VitaPiracy

nobody knows the actual read and write speeds of the vita but if you are worried about speeds https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073JYC4XM/ref=twister_B07B3MFBHY?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I use the 200gb version
