Your title made me think this was posted on /r/nocontext. You already got your answer, replace your death trap PSU as soon as humanly possible with a better one.
As for a replacement SSD, lemme see. I'm using this one on my laptop. Obviously, you'd get a smaller one. My brother and best friend are both using this one. They both work great so far and they load their respective operating systems within 6 or 7 seconds.
As for your friend, let her know that about 75% of reddit has shit his or her pants at least once after the age or 18. We know her pain. Tell her it gets better and with time she'll overcome the shame. One day she'll even think back and laugh about it. Don't tell her you told us about it though.
Some bits of advice:
Overall great build. You can save some money here and there. My total build cost about $800 with an i7-4790k and GTX 970. You can probably get yours to about that price with some tweaking and smart buying. Good luck! And let me know if you have questions.

This allows for overclocking non-K series CPUs. It also doesn't change most of your parts. I also would not recommend using a 430W PSU for this build.
EDIT: I made some changes based on what you wanted to put in your revision.
you can go the super cheap route and spend around $30-40, or spend $55 and get something like this:

and not regret spending only $30 later on.
Ah, alright, got it.
Would a SanDisk SSD be a better alternative?
Is it worth it to bite the extra $10 and pick up 16 GB of ram, or to be cheap (and save $10) and stick with 8 GB (2 x 4 GB Corsair Vengeance sticks)?
Logitech G600
SSD
One of these perhaps?
Do you know what the big difference between yours and this one is?

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M8ABCZM/
is good choice.
Not really, this is a much better drive and if you can swing the extra $20 get the 240GB version.

Swap the case for an Aerocool Aero 800 (white/black/blue/grey) case (blue one is like £36 on Amazon atm, or £45 for the other colours), spend the difference on a better SSD, like this one:
