You wouldn't pay $64.99 to get this data back? If this data isn't even worth that much to you then I guess this really isn't such a big deal.

Is this the hard drive used?

Yup, here's the link to the HDD used in the guide.

u/Brad3000 · 10 pointsr/playstation

It's very easy. Takes about 10 minutes. This is the cheapest option for a 2TB drive But you do need to remove the drive from the enclosure to put it in the PS4.

u/Phalanny · 4 pointsr/PS4

Return it and get THIS. No reason to go through all that trouble.

u/generik777 · 3 pointsr/PS4

Do this. Then you put the 500gb into the enclosure and you have a 2tb ps4 and a 500gb external. This is also cheaper than buying an internal hdd like the other guy linked. Here's a link to the one you should get. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00FRHTTIA

u/je66b · 3 pointsr/PS4

so whats the difference between this one and the one posted a few months back? im sure theyre both the same hard drive, just curious if theyre not

u/cyan000 · 3 pointsr/PS4

This portable drive goes on sale sometimes and works fine with PS4. You also get a free enclosure for your 500gb drive you remove from the PS4 and can use that as the portable drive after you swap them.

u/raul777him · 3 pointsr/PS4

Well i'm not sure what you mean by best.
SSD? Hybrid? Bigger size?

I will assume that you're looking for a bigger hard drive so here's a link on how to install a 2TB hard drive: http://www.reddit.com/r/PS4/comments/2cc3oj/created_a_beginningtoend_guide_on_how_to_install/

In that thread there is also the link to buy it:http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FRHTTIA/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_gO62tb16RZ1S4

u/RedMoogleXIII · 2 pointsr/PS4

I got this and shucked it to upgrade my PS4 internal hard drive to 2 TB

and as an added bonus I put the PS2 original drive in the casing so now i have plenty of storage on my console and a little extra in the USB drive.

u/dollerbill · 2 pointsr/PS4

I just bought this drive off the Prime deal, which ends up being a few dollars cheaper and also comes with the external enclosure that you can then put your stock HDD into. Does anyone know if the FireCuda drive is significantly better, that I should cancel my order and get this instead? I would think the drives should perform similarly if not limited by USB, but I'll gladly hear out anyone with real world experience on the subject

Hard drive:

I don't have this exact model, but I've been using Seagate hard drives for years, they never let me down.

As for games, Life is Strange, Metro Redux Bundle, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, Wolfenstein: The New Order and Wolfenstein: The Old Blood are very good and cheap games.

u/michrech · 2 pointsr/DataHoarder

To add to /u/zttz's reply, also avoid the 2.5" WD "portable" drives, as they have the same issue in his 'avoid' section. No SATA connector -- the PCB on these drives has the USB connector directly attached, and there is no way (that I've ever seen) to convert them.

Not sure if these will be available in Canadia-land, but this is the specific drive I've purchased / shucked for use in a 4-in-one hot swap cage. I picked up a couple of them, and if I recall correctly, they were in the 9mm height range...

I'm told the 4TB and 5TB drives are 15mm, but I've not purchased any of those...

u/MrTravesty · 2 pointsr/PS4

I used this one:

And I followed these instructions:

I think this is the best way to go about it because it lets you use you 500GB HD from your PS4 as an external hard drive. Instructions are also very easy to follow.

u/RazorBackFan15 · 2 pointsr/playstation

Its a Seagate and I didnt lose any data. You just plug it in and it is added to the storage you have and you can choose wether the data is stored in the external or internal drive. The only issue is that data could possibly corrupt if say your ps was on rest mode and your power went out. But my power has gone out several times and I haven’t had issues

u/TerrifiedCup · 2 pointsr/PS4

i changed my internal HDD to this model (pop case and take out HDD), if your going for an external HDD could be worth your while going for the max amount of space you can get 6tb+

u/I_AM_THE_LIQUEUR · 2 pointsr/PS4

Here is the one I ordered. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FRHTTIA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Unfortunately its not on sale anymore. They go on sale for like $89 every once in a while. Its usually all over this sub when it does.

EDIT: Here is one! http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Expansion-STBX2000401-2-5-Inch-Portable/dp/B00ILALU9G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1415996674&sr=8-1&keywords=2.5%22+external+2tb

u/Brostradamus_ · 2 pointsr/buildapc

If that is the case, I recommend the Seagate backup plus slim: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FRHTTIA

You wont be able to self-assemble a cheaper drive of that capacity. A 2TB portable SSD is going to run you about $170 at minimum.

u/Treasy · 2 pointsr/PS4

The 2tb is really really easy, don't let anyone scare you. A member of this subreddit even made a video of the process. Basically you take a screwdriver and pry the plastic enclosure open, then cut some tape. Voila! 2tb hdd.

I did it myself last weekend

The drive:

u/salesmunn · 1 pointr/PS4

Right now this is $79. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FRHTTIA?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage Just pop open the enclosure and use that drive to replace the default 500gb. Then take the PS4's 500gb drive and pop it into the enclosure, if you want to make use of it.

u/Geekiness · 1 pointr/deals

I got this 2TB external hard drive for $79, sweet! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FRHTTIA/

u/Kitty_Cassi · 1 pointr/Sims4

Seagate is a really good brand and has great reviews. I got the 2TB just because it wasn't that much more than the 1TB. There are so many to choose from so you could find a cheaper one too with less space. My boyfriend is into everything technology related so he recommended this specific one. But I put all my Sims stuff on it, and also my older school files. I had the Sims installed for about 2 years before I purchased this so no rush on needing it asap.

u/Jew__Gold · 1 pointr/PS4

Links to HDDs in the post. You're looking at about $60-70 for 1TB, $80 for 2TB. With that small of a difference, I'd go for 2TB right away, but you might not feel like you need that much over $20, so that is going to be a decision for you to make.

This particular one seems to be ok and reasonably priced https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FRHTTIA?redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage&th=1

u/MSP930 · 1 pointr/PS4

I have mine full, but my connection is pretty good, so I can delete and download all the time. I have this https://www.amazon.com.mx/Seagate-portátil-respaldo-dispositivos-plateado/dp/B00FRHTTIA/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?crid=1XIVGQ8OOL900&keywords=seagate+2tb&qid=1556657225&s=gateway&sprefix=seagate+&sr=8-5

You need to open the case and youll have the internal HDD ready

u/GigginBitches · 1 pointr/xboxone

This one?

How do you even use these? Do you just plug it into your Xbox and then when you select where to install games it will appear on a list of where to save it?

u/GGnerd · 1 pointr/PS4

You should be good with the one you linked but if you want to be certain, this is the one I got and used and works fine. Tho you do need to physically remove the hdd from the case it's in. Isn't too difficult tho. You can also then put your old hdd inside the case and use it as an external

u/WrathRE · 1 pointr/playstation

Yes, this would be a good option. The same hard drive can be found within this unit. Save a few bucks as prying it out of this case is fairly easy:

u/zshaz · 1 pointr/PS4

I wouldn't buy those. I had 1TB SSD on PS⁴ for years. I know it was expensive but worth it. If you don't wanna spend too much you can try this
I heard PS4 does not support more than 3TB.

u/james26685 · 1 pointr/PS4

http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Backup-Portable-External-STDR2000101/dp/B00FRHTTIA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1422301675&sr=8-2&keywords=2+tb+seagate+slim&pebp=1422301694824&peasin=B00FRHTTIA is probably the better way to go if you are more interested in space over a slight disk speed increase. And yes you do have to extract the drive from the external casing.

u/goy091 · 1 pointr/gadgets

An external enclosure is just the case that the drive sits in. When you buy an external hard drive from say Western Digital, Seagate, etc., you get an enclosure that has a hard drive installed in it.

Check out this link. I have this drive, along with a couple Western Digital ones. This one is nicer since the outside is actually metal unlike the WD ones I have.

u/Maximus77x · 1 pointr/PS4

So basically, Seagate Expansion, Seagate Backup Plus, or Samsung Seagate Momentus SpinPoint are all solid options?

If I got the Seagate expansion would it be the same drive as the Samsung -- I would just have to pop it out of the case?

Thanks for your help! This is an awesome answer, and it's one of the first times I have searched and actually found what I was looking for on the first thread.

u/usrevenge · 1 pointr/PS4

i don't live in the UK but the drive of choice for a long time now is the seagate slim 2TB external, you open the enclosure and take the drive out.

I did this myself and it is quite easy and there are numerous videos online of how to do it because for quite a while this was the only way to get a 2TB drive that fit into the ps4, they are sold separately now I think but I think it's actually CHEAPER to get the external drive still.

plus, take your ps4's 500gb stock drive and format it and put it into the enclosure and you have yourself an external drive for an xbone or backup for your pc.

u/NothingTrivial · 1 pointr/PS4

I've had this one in for awhile with no problems so far.

u/chaitu531 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Thanks for the recommendation. I will surely check the product

If you are looking for 1.5 TB
HGST Travelstar 5K1500 1.5TB 2.5-Inch Mobile 5400 RPM 9.5mm

When it comes to 2TB stuff gets tricky since they are technical "not available/ hard to find as bare official drive" You can either way buy them on Ebay or Amazon but they are literally ripped out of portable enclosure and sold @ higher price

or you can buy it cheaper and take it out of the enclosure yourself but that also voids your warranty instantly

u/JAMurida · 1 pointr/ffxiv

This is the model I bought some months ago:

So far I haven't had any problems with the drive yet and the extra space compared to the stock HDD Sony gives you is nice for the games.

~~I think there's a newer model though with 2TB storage instead of just 1TB if you want the extra space:

As well as a guide I saw while trying to look up the newer model incase you decide to upgrade your HDD:

EDIT: The second link isn't a newer model of the first, just a normal HDD from the looks of it with more space, my bad.

u/The_MorningStar · 1 pointr/PS4

It's $15-$20 cheaper depending on the seller. Here is the one I am talking about. Several people have posted guides about it but this is the one I have saved. [Imgur Album] It's a simple enough process and you don't need that many tools.

u/Kasendou · 1 pointr/PS4

Not really much choice in the 2TB 2.5" HDD realm. For the price, the current Seagate that most people use is the best value. You could wait for other drives to come out, as I'm sure they are on their way.

I like this model because you basically get the case for free. You can pop the internal HDD out, swap your PS4 HDD into the case and have a 500GB external for whatever you need.

-Make sure you're running the latest firmware on your PS4 (3.50 or later)

-Test the HDD before you go taking it apart, run a full scan on it to verify no bad sectors and that the thing isn't an RMA dud.

u/DJBakenator · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

This is better than anything else I've seen, and it's at a great price. I'm gonna get a Seagate Backup Portable External HDD for storing my Steam games, since 256 GB doesn't seem like enough. Thanks!

u/iisdmitch · 1 pointr/PS4

If you absolutely want 7200 RPM, I don't think there is a real difference between the 2. I can't find the thread right now but a couple weeks ago, a Redditor posted a guide on how to swap this 2TB drive into the PS4. It's probably only 5400 RPM (I looked quickly and couldn't find out). Yes, it's external but the drive can be pulled out and put into a PS4. The hard drive itself is not Seagate, it's actually Samsung. This drive right now is probably the best bang for the buck. But if you absolutely need 7200 RPM, got for one of the ones you listed.

u/Sliez · 1 pointr/PS4

I bought this for my brother works perfect if you don't mind having a USB port dedicated to it. If you want to switch the internal out instead, just crack open the case and it's the same size as the ps4s hdd.

u/Jasons2334 · 1 pointr/buildapc

These were the 2 drives I was comparing 7200 or 5400

u/ThemeForAJackal138 · 0 pointsr/worldwarzthegame

Dude. Invest in an external drive! Makes life so much easier if you play a lot.

u/Biomonkey · 0 pointsr/PS4

I have not heard of Travelstar, both HDDs are about the same so I doubt either of them will be an issue. If you don't mind spending an extra $10 you can go with this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FRHTTIA/ref=twister_B01CQV9RDG?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I used this HDD on my 1st gen PS4. It is really easy to get the enclosure opened without damaging it, just held by glue. I used the original HDD in the PS4 to put back in the enclosure to use as an external for other stuff. Let me know if you want to know more.
