-If you use your music unlimited trial, make sure to turn off the auto-renewal.

-If your TV supports RGB Full, enable it on BOTH the TV and PS4. Use a calibration image in the web browser to see that all of the blacks are correct (you should see different shaded squares).

-Replace the hard drive early to spend less time transferring things over (if you plan to replace it at all). At this point most people are getting a 2TB by taking it out of this external.

-Remember to pick up both of your PS+ games every month. There's also warframe, war thunder, and blacklight retribution for free.

-Generally just go through the settings and edit things such as privacy to your liking.

Really, aside making sure you don't get suckered into paying for music unlimited it's pretty plug and play. I did see a huge difference by enabling RGB full on my TV and PS4 though. Some TV's don't support it. The hard drive is optional, but the games 40-50gb and the stock hard drive will only fit 8-9 of them.

Fishpond prices are "Kiwi style" high. I've never found anything on Fishpond that isn't cheaper from Amazon including shipping. Random example: Hard Drive (shipped from US), NZ$161. Same item NZ$59+$12 shipping = NZ$97

Should be this. The first review tells you how to put it in your ps4.

>The main reason is to update Word. I edit in Word for various university press clients, and an important one told me all their files shared online are in Word 2011. So I think they expect me to have it. It's also a pain to have to use a converter every time I receive a file in .docx.

I'd recommend the latest version of Office. It's dramatically improved over older versions. You don't want to play with Apple's version of Word, called Pages. It's great, but you need to be opening and saving these files with the same program that your client is using so formatting doesn't get screwy. And the last thing you need is a bunch of versions of each file, as you import it to Pages, then export back to Word.

If you go with an Office 365 subscription, you get the iPhone apps, too, which are well designed. But a one time purchase isn't bad if that's your preference (especially if you're fine continuing to upgrade so rarely).

>If I upgrade to the latest OSX, should I first put all current Office 2004 files onto a thumb drive? I guess I don't understand what you mean by saying that upgrading the OSX would kill earlier programs. Is there a way to know which ones, and does it mean that no pre-upgrade files can be used anymore?

You need to have all of your stuff backed up before doing the upgrade, even if it's just on a thumb drive (though I'd really prefer you get something like this.) In fact, you need to have everything backed up, period. You're working with an old machine and some day it will die.

What I mean by kill programs is that the Word program itself won't open. All of your documents, pictures, etc will work perfectly fine. It's just that the old app you're using to open your Word files won't work, but if you get the current version of the program, it will open all your files. If you use any other programs that you got from someone other than Apple, they may need to be upgraded.

>I currently have 6 GB RAM and 146 GB free space on my hard drive.

RAM sounds fine. If you can afford it, replacing your hard drive with a solid state drive (no moving parts) will dramatically increase the speed at which everything opens when you need it. Just a matter of personal preference, though. You've got plenty of space so upgrading isn't a requirement.

I love games lol. I have the original PS4 and an Xbox One X.

I highly doubt it because the PS4 formats the disk when you hook it up. Remember that heavy DRM is involved. They don’t want you loading games on a drive and then hooking it up to a computer for hacking games, cracking, etc.

For a PS4 I would just buy a 2 TB 5400 rpm drive. This is what I bought: https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Portable-External-Photography-STDR1000100/dp/B00H4XH5FY.

All you need to do is open the enclosure and take the drive out. It’s cheaper than buying a loose drive. I actually bought this from Best Buy, put my stock 500 GB PS4 drive in there and returned it. I know it’s a scumbag move but they don’t check and they’ve screwed me over in the past.

Sony makes it really easy to change the internal drive. You only need to slide the shiny cover off to the left, unscrew about 4 screws, take the old drive out, new one in, screw, close.

Before you do this you need to download the full PS4 system software from here onto any flash drive you have lying around: http://dau01.ps4.update.playstation.net/update/ps4/image/2019_0319/rec_7bd82d7957611fe9bca3fa63b78c82c5/PS4UPDATE.PUP

External USB hard drive.

Surely 1 TB would be enough for your projects?

u/tb21666 · 2 pointsr/PlaystationClassic

I've successfully used/tested a SanDisk 256GB, Seagate 1TB & Seagate 4TB drives, none with their own power source & all via OTG.

snag this external HDD, it has been awesome for me! Comes in a few different storage capacities, good price, and slim size

u/CafeRoaster · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

First mistake is looking for a hard drive (HDD). Look for a solid-state drive (SSD). That said, I love my Seagate Backup Plus 1TB Hard Drive. It's quiet, holds everything I need it to, and is small. Also comes with 200GB of free cloud storage.

Seagate Backup Plus Slim will work with PCs and Macs. I used this to transfer footage with a MacBook on set, then bring it home to my PC, and it worked swimmingly.

Basically, you get a cheap other HDD like this (you probably want a bigger one for double backups or just in case you get a bigger harddrive)

Then, you backup all your files to it once very week or so. Make sure not to keep it plugged into the computer except when doing backups. (otherwise when a virus hits it will have access to your backup drive and will encrypt everything on it as well).

I have no idea what that person is talking about (maybe compression? idk) but there's no magical way to reduce the amount of data you're using.

u/Chouonsoku · 1 pointr/PS4

I noted the size differences in another post in this very topic. That 3.5 GB patch (Infamous I suppose?) is a delta patch, meaning it doesn't make your total space used [size of game] + 3.5 GB. That 3.5 GB patch replaced files in the game install, it did not add itself on top of them. Games get updated all the time and that's not something new for PS4 Pro and the Pro updates are not wasting space that otherwise would not be taken up.

You can get a 1TB hard drive for $60 or a 2TB hard drive for $80 if you're finding you have to delete games you want to keep playing.

u/ts6815 · 1 pointr/WiiHacks

What /u/DrWoolyNips said. However, beyond the list, generally any USB 2.0 hard drive will work, as long as it's formatted properly. Although if you're going to buy a drive, you'd probably be better off getting something like this or something else in that form factor. That exact model is what my Wii runs off, and this style has the added advantage of being smaller and being pretty much tanks (I've dropped and knocked over my setup more times than I care to admit). Of course, if you have that drive lying around, just give it a shot and see if it works.

I have a pretty old (nearing on 10 years?) Seagate that's 1T and awesome. It's not slow if I play games directly from it plugged in. Here's the newer model of it:

I also have a slimmer one that's exclusively for backing up my computer and keeping important files portable that is pretty great too. Again, this is the newer model:

Hi,

Currently the Acer Spin 5 is on sale on Amazon for the Deal of the Day, and it has: i7-8550U processor, 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB SSD storage, and 1080p 13.3" touchscreen display. The laptop has a decent battery life, expect at least 7 hours for light general use. For photo editing, it should be a great fit, it has decent color coverage. The laptop is both 2-in-1 and touchscreen. You can use an external hard drive, like a 1 TB external hard drive for more storage.

u/NightWolf098 · 1 pointr/techsupport

Don't have a new drive yet, just putting it all on an internal hard drive for a moment. I'm reading online forums of Maxtor drives failing at 180 reallocated sectors, 249 cant be good if I still need to use it to transfer files.

Any idea how long these things last after the clicking starts?

Edit: Possible future replacement

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/PS4

Happened to my 2 controllers. This solved the problem for $2 per controller

If you plan on going all-digital, upgrade your hard drive before you start putting games on it. Really, if you plan on upgrading your hard drive at all, I would do it now. That way you don't have to re-load every game, save, and setting to the new hard drive.

This is a great option if you are looking for a new hard drive. You take the 2TB HD out of the external, put it in the PS4, and put your PS4 HD inside the external case. For $100 you get a 2TB HD in your PS4 (instead of 500GB), and you get a USB3.0 500GB external.

Considering some games are around 50GB (even with the disc), you may want to upgrade depending on how many you plan on having at once. I would definitely get the controller grips though. No need for a fancy $15 pair.

A couple of points.

  • It seems all of your backups are online. What if your organization is affected by a virus or hacked? Your backups are just as vulnerable as your live data if they can be accessed via the network. Offline backups such as tape or even a USB stick/drive are safe from such a problem pending you actually remove them from the system.

  • What internet bandwidth do you have available? If you need to rely on your cloud/offsite backup, do you have the bandwidth to download your data in a timely manner? 150gb will take over 60 hours to download at 5mbps. You say they're not concerned with DR. Not yet they're not, but if push comes to shove, you want to have warned them about this in advance. Some online services (Backblaze for example) offer a service where they will courier you a copy of your backed up data on disk to get around this.

If you want cheap, grab 7 of these, label them and swap them daily.
u/Connguy · 0 pointsr/DestinyTheGame

For $50, you're not going to get more than 500 GB of space. That might be more than enough right now, but you should know that hard drive space gets cheaper and cheaper the more you buy in one go. The first 500 GB will cost you $50, and that's with a cheap brand (Toshiba). The next 500 will cost you just another $20, and that's from a much more reputable brand. Then you can double your space to 2 TB for just another measly $10. After that, the price goes up pretty linearly, at a rate of about $10/TB.

My point is, if you're going to invest in a hard drive, it's better to spend a little more to get a lot more space. You get far more bang for your buck that way, and with the way download sizes on games and media are growing these days, 500 GB won't last you nearly as long as it used to.
