Any gaming headset will do. What's your budget?

Kingston makes some really nice headsets that aren't too expensive that sound fantastic. Check out the Kingston HyperX Cloud ($76), HyperX Cloud II ($95) and the HyperX Cloud Revolver ($120).

Currently I'm using the Sennheiser Game Zero and love them but they're at $190 and a little pricey.

Surround sound headphones sound so muddy to me, I haven't heard a good pair. I skip the gimmick. I'd advise a visit to /r/headphones but a Quick suggestion below

The difference between these two are one is open meaning vents to improve sound quality and closed incase you can't allow much sound to escape from open headphones. I've talked to DAC makers and they seem to actually perfer USB 2.0 over 3.0 for audio, I'll need to check my emails for the exact reason.

Also Sennheiser has the most comfortable headphones in the business IMO. I have Sennheiser HD650 and sometimes forget I'm wearing them. (don't get HD650 without an Amplifier and DAC)

I'm really enjoying the Sennheiser Game Zero, it's the same headset as the Sennheiser HD 380 Pro that I was using before, but with a built in boom microphone. Excellent noise deadening, I can barely hear the "real world" with the headset on, it's great.

u/day1patch · 3 pointsr/financialindependence

These ones, they work like a charm after almost four hours now. Take note that the Game Zero is completely different from the Game One, the latter has absolutely no noise cancellation.

I went with an astro mixamp and paired it with a Sennheiser 558hd headset. It came out to about $150 during a sale. If you can afford it, it's best to get an excellent stereo headset and pair it with an amp to give you virtual surround. I ended up getting a sennheiser game one headset later to have a built in mic. This headset is very comfortable and is open back. If you prefer closed back, there is the game zero.

If your budget is firm and you can deal with wireless, the sony gold and platinum headsets are actually pretty good. The difference being the golds have 40mm drivers and the Platinum has 50mm drivers plus 3d sound capability.

A closed-back headphone is a headphone that has no vents on the outside of the earcup to allow air in or out of the sound chamber of the headphone. This has a tendency to emphasize bass. Closed-back headphones will also offer noise-isolation (not to be confused with Active Noise Canceling.)

An open-back has opening(s) - a grill, slots, holes, mesh, etc... behind the driver on the outside of the cup that allows air in and out of the sound chamber. Open-back headphones tend to not have the bass power of similar closed-back headphones - but typically are better at treble. Open-back headphones don't offer any passive noise isolation, as they are pretty much 'open' to the air in all directions. Sound will get in, and some small sound will get out.

The other major difference is in soundstage. Most closed-back headphones have very small soundstage, while most open-back headphones have wider sound-stage than most closed-backs, with some exceptions.

In terms of pure comfort, the Cloud II /w its' velour earpads are extremely comfortable (as my opinion), however of the above listed headsets it's overall sound quality is the worst/or tied with the Alpha. All of those have exceptional build quality compared to other gaming headsets I've ever tested (that's an extensive list, including Razer, Logitech, Turtle Beach, Sennheiser, HyperX, Corsair, SteelSeries, and whatever else they sell at Best Buy and Microcenter.) Now, that's not saying the Cloud II has bad sound quality, it's top tier among headsets - but the Sennheiser offerings are technically better, and have somewhat better microphones.

u/LifelongCaboose · 2 pointsr/Gaming_Headsets

The Zeros are a closed back design and come with a case and cost more. The Game Ones are way better because of the open back design but if you game in a loud environment you will be able to hear it all through the headset and people around you can some what hear what your listening too. Open Back offers better sound stage for the best audio positioning but have no sound isolation. I never buy headsets used for many reasons. For some reason the White game ones are usually cheaper and if you order from Amazon just make sure it's shipped and sold by Amazon and not a third party company. Also they should fit fine over your glasses. Since it's a headset designed for PC it uses a 3.5mm mic and 3.5mm audio jacks. So for the Xbox One and laptops you will need an adapter Sennheiser sells one I will link it. Also for Xbox one I would waste your money on one of the Adapters just go for a new Xbox One controller that has a 3.5mm combo Jack.

Game One White

Game Zero Black

Sennheiser Adapter

As for issues with them on Xbox One in my testing I didn't encounter any. Besides the fact they can't be turned up to extremely loud volumes because of there semi high impedance(for a headset). Your MacBooks on board audio should be fine. When you build a PC don't cheap out and get a cheap Motherboard because the On board audio on cheaper boards may not be able to run the this headset well.

They're always on sale for ~$170 on Amazon.

u/xAsianZombie · 1 pointr/battlestations

I personally use sennheiser game zeros. They are excellent quality headphones and it has a mic attached as well. It also has a volume knob on the side. Downside is the price, it's around $350.

I just checked on Amazon and apparently it's on sale!

They were amazing while they lasted. Great sound. Love the virtual 7.1 (they're horrible without the Gaming Software) but yea. THEY FUCKING DISCONNECT. [This] (https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B00KNPYAEY/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1) is what I use now as a replacement.

u/shadyinternets · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

not sure what your budget is, but the hyperx clouds are based off of much more expensive sets and are most likely made way, way, wayyy better than anything from plantronics that was mentioned here for $19.

http://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Cloud-Gaming-Headset-KHX-H3CL/dp/B00JJNQG98

if you have to have a headset and not just headphones + modmic, and dont want to spend a few hundred on beyerdynamic mmx300 (what the hyperx are based off of basically, what i have used for a few years. these are truly bifl, they are absolute tanks) or the sennheiser game zero i would highly recommend the clouds at around $90.

http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-MMX300-Premium-Digital-Microphone/dp/B001BYMZ5W
http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-G4ME-ZERO-BLACK-Headset/dp/B00KNPYAEY

just not sure how buy for life a plasticy $19 set is gonna be....

also, dont worry about 5.1 or 7.1 in a headphone. it doesnt actually do anything. you still only have 2 speakers, 1 in each side. 5.1 in headphones is a lie. any decent set will let you know the directions of sounds without fake 5.1.

most of the so called "gaming headsets" are nothing but crap. they may look flashy and have flashy features, but in the end most are just crap. turtle beach, siberia, razer headsets. just avoid them. get real headphones or something at least from a company that makes headphones and you will be much happier.

I'm trying to figure out a good setup to work on my PS4 and PC. Let me just start off by saying I know very little about headphones and amps, soundcard thingys and such but I do know that the PS4 controller jack uses bluetooth and has compressed audio and headsets sound worse when using it. Anyways, I'm trying to figure out if this setup will work.
I want to use a Blue Snowball Mic
with Senneheiser 598
and Turtle Beach DSS to get the performance out of the 598's. Has anybody tried a setup like this? Would this even work? Is there a better/easier option to have a good desktop mic + headphones? If I'm able to put the snowball directly into the PS4 and then use the headset with the DSS plugged into the console then that would be perfect. Thanks for helping me figure this out.

I'm also strongly considering something like these just to save money and have a simpler setup.

u/t0asteroid · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

I recommend Sennheiser Game Zero which you can buy from amazon.ca without paying extra customs tax (i suppose you ordering from Canada.)

It's closed back, have microphone, and it's Sennheiser.

u/octovert · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I use the Sennheiser Game One and have nothing but good things to say about it. Get the Game Zero if having closed backs is important to you.

u/Slaw0 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I got Sennheiser Game Zero last friday, no regrets and amazing sound.

u/Geneaux · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Actually, they aren't.

  • Zero
  • One

The the foam pads on the One, would shove the entire outer ear out of the cavity. It's just harder to notice from the product pictures, but it's there.
u/boywithhat · 1 pointr/headphones

Hello all! So I am in the market for a new headset and after a lot it looks like Sennheiser is the best option. I was hoping for some recommendations on which one to buy. The ones I'm looking at are the Game One, Game Zero (not really sure what the difference is), PC 350SE, and PC 363D. These are not set in stone however and I am open to suggestions.

Budget: I would like to keep it at $200 but am willing to go up to 250 if the improvement justifies it.

Source: I have an Asus G73 SW laptop. I'm not sure exactly what the sound card is but the specs are this:
EAX Advanced HD 5.0
THX TruStudio
I also have the turtle beach DSS2 thing that I can use.

Isolation:Nothing too much. Just want to be able to not hear and not be heard by my brother 10 ft away.

Prefered type: Over the ear

Tonal Balance: Don't really know, overall balanced I guess?

Past Headphones: Currently wearing Turtlebeach X12's. Tried the steelseries elite but after 4 different headsets breaking I gave up on them.

Prefered Music: Mix of everything really, nothing too out there. I usually play games like the total war series and Warthunder. Also I usually listen to history podcasts if that helps.

sennhesier game zero

10/10 headset, true german engineering.

u/JariDeLeon · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

There are some headsets made by brands that do proper headphones like sennheiser, beyerdynamic and audiotechnica. You should maybe take a look at the Sennheiser game one's or game zero's if not these models maybe you should check out the beyerdynamic custom game headset. If you somehow don't find something you like from brands like these and want a normal gaming branded headset you could get something from hyperx. Hyperx headsets tend to be better than the other gaming brands and usually are just rebranded models from other companys. For example their cloud model is a rebranded takstar pro 80 headphone. Also, you could buy a cable with a microphone and just replace the stock cable from headphones that have a removable cable.

Edit: The sennheiser PC37X made in collaboration with Massdrop might also be a good option for you.

Sennheiser GAME ZERO Gaming Headset- Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KNPYAEY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_0NoZCbD64ASBJ

These in my opinion are some of the nicest headphones for the price. High quality microphone and clarity. The sound is just impeccably clear and has a flat response. Not too much bass. Easy mute and volume controls.

I bought them and everyone in my circle all bought them after trying them. These particular headphones are used in game development and you can easily tell the difference. Highly recommend.

u/rapalabrowns · 1 pointr/Gaming_Headsets

I would prefer a mix of comp fps (hearing footsteps) and good for watching movies/listening to music. Probably would tip a little toward the music/movies tbh.

So you would suggest these, do you think I need a sound card or dac or amp? No experience with dac/amp.

yes, so there are two cables included..one for pc and one for consoles..the one for consoles, you just plug them into the controller- Amazon US link. https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-GAME-Gaming-Headset-Black/dp/B00KNPYAEY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1542934757&sr=8-2&keywords=game+zero

I think I might be looking at the wrong pair but the reviews are saying there are two audio cables for this pair? Does it just connect directly into the adapter on the controller? Do you have a link to them on amazon? Wireless headsets won't give you as good sound quality or comfort as a good wired set. Batteries add weight and limit peak power to the drivers.

https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-GAME-Gaming-Headset-Black/dp/B00KNPYAEY

If you want a pair of headphones for gaming get those. The driver and microphone quality are excellent.

https://www.amazon.com/FiiO-E10K-Headphone-Amplifier-Black/dp/B00LP3AMC2

Get that DAC + headphone amplifier if you a slight boost to sound quality. The amplifier portion isn't really needed for 50 ohm headphones unless your motherboard has a bad audio chipset.

u/ShmooelYakov · 1 pointr/buildapc

Are these on par?

Sennheiser GAME ZERO PC Gaming Headphone - Black

or

Sennheiser GAME ONE PC Gaming Headset - Black

It seems like the ONEs rest on the ear while the ZEROs surround them, is that the major difference?

u/ssmahony · 1 pointr/GlobalOffensive

Yeah at northern arena they forced should have forced the players to use noise cancelling "3m earmuffs" (like these) which don't put out any audio. The only way to get audio would be to use earbuds. I know stewie2k uses generic Apple earbuds, however some pro's decide to go with higher end earbuds. Either way you don't really want to be using earbuds at home.

But if you are just asking about what headset to get for CS, the most common headset among pro's are the Senhizer's, if you are looking for something cheaper though Astro's, Hyper X Cloud II's , and Logitech G430's are also very popular.

I'm also going to take this opprotunity to point out that you shouldn't be using the default CS:GO sound settings, but you can read more about that here

u/herpyderpydan · 1 pointr/buildapc

So I recently purchased this headset, from some of the reviews it says i need a fancy sound card and an amp, but those are all kinda old, is that still the case? Or should i be able to fully use this right out of the box?

Thanks for all the help you guys give!

u/mysticreddit · 1 pointr/pathofexileps4

If you can't track down your mic I would highly recommend a (wired) headset. I've used these two headsets and can recommend them:

Thanks dude, I've got a set of Game Zeros, and a JDS amp on my amazon "computer" list now! I'm excited, though it'll be a while before those things make it to the top of my priority list.

Two more questions:
1 - looks like the Zero has one 3.5mm jack for output, and one for input, how do you hook that in with the amp in the mix?
2 - How do you handle cable management? All the plugins are in the FRONT of the amp, so there's no hope of hiding any of the cables :/ I'd prefer to have all the plugs in the rear, so I could mount the face somewhere visible and accessible and have all the cables trail away behind my desk.

Edit: oh hey, the amazon listing is for the new game Zeros which are rated at 50 ohms rather than 150, so they don't need an amp to push them... I wonder if this impacts sound quality any.

Unfortunately they didn't make a separate amazon listing when they updated to the new Zeros, so most of these reviews are still for the old ones despite this listing now selling the new ones!
