Everyone else here has already given wonderful advice regarding engineering careers, and as an engineer who works with hiring from time to time, I wholeheartedly agree with them. That being said, maybe I can be of help in another way...

I'm a lifelong insomniac, but could never consider marijuana because I have a clearance. I refuse to take Ambien because it's so addictive, and most other sleep meds are just a joke to me (I went to the hospital once after not sleeping for nearly two weeks, they had to give me multiple sedatives before I fell asleep). Anyway... my doctor suggested a supplement called Serenity and 500 mg of magnesium. It works like nothing I've ever tried, and my brother takes it now, too. There's a better one called Cerenity, but it's wicked expensive, so I'd recommend the cheaper one first. I'm obviously not a doctor (this isn't medical advice, etc...), so always research stuff first so you can make an informed judgement on what's best for your body. But I will say, having legitimately slept for a solid week is something I hadn't done since I was a small child, it's pretty sweet.

I'm assuming your diet is pretty healthy from your gym background, but you might also consider an elimination diet to see if there is anything keeping you awake. For a lot of people, things like aspartame keep them awake, but I've known people who had issues with certain veggies or milk.

Best of luck, man. Hope everything works out for you.

hello,

usually what you will end up will be prescription sleeping pills. I am against these for so many reason. First being the high level of dependency we develop towards these pills. Second being the feeling of weakness and grogginess after we wake up.

What I use and cherish are natural herbal extracts. Chamomile and valerian root to be exact. I use Serenity by Eu Natural (https://www.amazon.com/SERENITY-Natural-Stress-Anxiety-Relief/dp/B00GCRXGTM)

They worked best for me. I wake up feeling refreshed and I get the sleep I need. I did lots of research into the ingredients, chamomile and valerian and I will be glad to share more info. But this is what helped me
