I’ve been hunting around myself and after some trial and error have settled on this brand . Not only has it worked really well (hair is soft and silky smooth) it smells sooo good.

I don’t know much about hair oils but I’ve been using jojoba oil for my scalp and it works wonders. Also doubles as a great face moisturizer.

Head on over to r/curlyhair. The Curly Girl method, which is what we use over there, requires using sulfate and silicone free hair products. So if you are looking for that kind of product, that's where you want to look because the sidebar has a link to a giant list of sulfate-free hair products, including shampoos, conditioners, styling products, and much more. My brand of choice is Shea Moisture shampoo and conditioner (any version works awesome for me but this is my favorite), which can be bought on Amazon for like $12 a bottle or $20 for a set, and styling products are similarly priced. There are cheaper options out there, too, if you're on a tight budget.

Bonus points if you actually have curly hair because the CGM is honestly fucking amazing. I was skeptical at first but finally tried it about 2 months ago and it has changed the way I view, care for, and style my hair and I couldn't be more thrilled with the results.

Good luck!

I buy this duo: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014I5HJXI

The scent is pleasant but a bit strong and it doesn't really make my hair squeaky clean like shampoos with SLS do, but if that's the tradeoff for no giant flakes coming off everytime I touch my scalp, totally worth it.

Interestingly I also get mouth sores when I use toothpaste with SLS, so maybe it's an allergy for me.

Edit: So you know before you try to copy my strategy.. comparing to other people I know with dandruff, I'm not sure that's what I had. Mine was less tiny white bits and more larger, slightly yellow (I'm sorry this is so grosssss) and didn't dislodge without some physical contact, and then looked kind of red and irritated on the skin underneath.
