You all might be interested in reading 'Ship of Gold in the Deep Blue Sea' by Gary Kinder. It gets into how the SS Central America shipwreck was found.

I found it a spellbinding read.

This Book paints a pretty good picture of what it takes to get to it. It also involves Odyssey Marine Exploration. which has been mentioned several times here.
