Two points:

  1. Over $50 tends to be a scam: actually, Shure buds like these are well worth the money.

  2. I always buy these Sony earbuds. No earbuds will ever be buy-it-for-life, because you're bound to get loss of sound in one ear sooner or later. These Sony buds are super cheap, provide decent audio (not audiophile quality but you will not get that for less than $50 anyway), and last for at least a year in my experience. I've been using them for 10+ years and they are still good.

P.S. If you ARE looking for audiophile-grade earbuds, go over to headroom and see what your options are.

P.P.S. If you're okay with full-size headphones too, the Sennheiser HD595's are hands down the best headphones I have heard.
u/toromio · 15 pointsr/headphones

The amp purchased was the FiiO A3 Portable (~$60)
The headphones (earbuds) mentioned were the Shure SE215 (~$100)

EDIT (with commentary):
I had read several reviews that said "don't expect to hear a difference right away when you buy your first amp, but use it for a few days then listen without it to see if you hear any difference at all".

Either I have super-sensitive ears, or amps really are this great. I can hear a difference right away. I'm literally in my first hour of listening, so I won't review this yet, but I won't need a few days to tell a difference; it is a night and day difference.

I both love and hate this sub because I'll now be interested in multiple amps, not just multiple headphones...

Hier meine zwei Empfehlungen:

Great sound and they have a similar level of noise reduction as a pair of ear plugs. I usually wear a pair of ear muffs over them to reduce the noise level even further.

Sounds like the Klipsch S4 would be good on the less expensive end of your range, and the HiFiMan RE-400 would be good on the upper end of your range. I also think highly of the Etymotic MC5, MC3, or HF5. Then there's the trusty Shure SE215, but I don't think it'd go as well as some of the others according to your music taste.

Of all of those in your price range, I'd recommend the RE-400s or HF5s. Both are great IEMs. The RE-400 is highly recommended around this subreddit.

If you're willing to stretch your budget, there are also the Rock-it R-50s, which have great mids and highs, which I recommend for rock/metal/indie/classical.

So, a week into the new year, my Christmas gifts arrived: Shure SE215s and Scott Sumner's book, The Midas Paradox.

I plan on reading and reviewing Scott's book soon.^^(TM)

u/Haematobic · 11 pointsr/videos

Amen, brother. Best purchase I've done this year - thanks to my in-ear headphones, an 8 hour flight went by almost like nothing, except of course, it was a long-ass flight.

I only noticed some cunt was arguing with a flight attendant because I turned around to get my food, and even then, I don't know what she was yapping about.

u/liquidfury · 10 pointsr/Fitness

I have a pair of Shure e215 in ear monitors that sounds great and are super comfortable.

u/Thurwell · 10 pointsr/starcraft

I wonder if the noise blocking earbuds like these would help. I have a pair and they're great on airplanes for blocking out crying babies and engine noise.

u/auxcend · 8 pointsr/edmproduction

check out the Shure SE215s. heard nothing but great things about them, and they supposedly have really solid bass response. Plus the cables are detachable.

u/Jib_ · 8 pointsr/Fitness

When earbuds break it is indeed usually the wire that goes.

My solution is to use earbuds with replaceable cables - I use these for the gym https://www.amazon.com/MEE-audio-Universal-Fit-Noise-Isolating-Detachable/dp/B00SLVB71Q (come with a replacement cable, I've used maybe 2 or 3 cables in 2 years, the headphones should sell for ~30 USD at a sale) and these for home/sleeping: https://www.amazon.com/Shure-SE215-K-Isolating-Earphones-MicroDriver/dp/B004PNZFZ8/ (I've worn out two cables in ~two years, they cost 10-20 USD to replace).

Get a case to carry them around in, stick the wire inside your shirt, and you're mostly fine. Both of those also have bluetooth accessory cables to buy separate if you decide you do want to go with a bluetooth solution (as do most other decent in-ear headphones).

I tried this and didn't like the finished product. The fit was okay, but they didn't end up sealing nearly as well as my shure se215's

Shure 215

It is way over your budget after taxes $146 CAD. But that is the best I could find for what is durable and has replaceable cords for when they wear out. I have only read good things about it on BIFL.

I do not own a pair but I hope to soon when I have the funds.

u/drummer-boy · 6 pointsr/drums

Shure SE215 In-Ear monitors, ran me under $100 off of amazon, not bulky at all. I use them everyday, but they are also great for noise cancelling during drumming.

u/wereweazle · 5 pointsr/motorcycles

I'd like to highly recommend Shure SE215.
They have the foam tips like BeerWrench suggested that act essentially just like earplugs, but sit flush in your ear. My biggest problem was my helmet catching on the end of the earbud and ripping/pushing it out. Absolutely zero issue with these.

I'd recommend these above any other earbud I've tried because the noise isolation works so well that I can listen to my music at half volume (even quiet stuff like Bon Iver) and hear every note perfectly whereas with my old Bose IE2s I had to blast it and lost a ton of range.

u/AlmostRelevant2 · 5 pointsr/bayarea

I have no experience with noise canceling headphones, but when I used to ride BART, I picked up a set of sound isolating, in-canal ear buds and love them. I have the Shure SE110, which they do not appear to make anymore, so this link is way overpriced. When I bought them they were $100. I believe the SE215s would be the current equivalent.

If you aren't used to that style, they take some getting used to, but once you get accustomed to getting them fit right in there, the sound is fantastic. You just need to make sure they're all the way in, or the bass will be non-existent. I knew I loved them when I was standing on the BART platform, just behind the yellow line, listening at half volume while looking down at my MP3 player, and the train managed to sneak up on me as it pulled into the station. They also blocked out the transbay howl pretty well. I used them for music and playing games on my PSP. I credit them for keeping me sane for those two years...

u/superAL1394 · 5 pointsr/Fitness

I'm a big fan of Shure in-ear monitors. The SE215's are around 100 if I recall correctly. They have a moldable ear 'clip' for wrapping behind your ears, a long cable, and the cable has braided Kevlar in the sheath to make them more durable.

Edit: they are 100 on Amazon prime right now

Good quality sound isolating earbuds don't have this issue, pick up a pair of Shure SE215s.

Not only does it cut out external noise, but lets you play your music at a reasonable volume so you don't kill your hearing.

Great isolation. Not exactly cheap but you can replace the wire I've had mine for 4 years and never thought about getting anything else

u/ChickenInMyCastle · 4 pointsr/headphones

You get what you pay for. Those are absolutely engineered to be throwaways to get you to continue the purchasing-garbage cycle.
Maybe invest in something with a replaceable cord like the Shure SE-215's?

u/Stole_My_Banana · 4 pointsr/gadgets

the "fancy" headphone in the store are normally just cheap headphones with a logo.

I just don't get how you can't keep track of something like a set of headphone? Even earbuds are pretty each to keep track of

EDIT: forgot to mention....there are plenty of good headphones, you just don't always find them in places like bestbuy and walmart.

You can go with the monoprice 8320 if you need something cheap but decent. If you are wanting GOOD pro level equipment you pretty much jump to the $100 level and something like the Shure 215. You can also go custom IEM but that will start around $500 for something you will probably use the rest of your life.

Shure SE215. Good sound quality, great isolation, detachable cable and extremely comfortable. IMO the best IEMs in that price range.

You could also visit /r/headphones if you want to look at more options. There's a daily recommendation thread for these kind of questions.

u/nastdrummer · 3 pointsr/Drumming

Ear plugs, for me, were always terrible. I tried cheap disposable ones and more expensive reusable ones, percussion specific ones and was never very happy with them.

What finally worked great for me were in-ear-monitors. With the added bonus that you could pump in a track or a click or monitor and have hearing protection while also hearing everything perfectly at a comfortable level. My first were Shure SE215, for about $100 they do a great job of both isolation and playback.

If he doesn't really gel with the $15 ear plugs maybe think of splurging for in-ear monitor for his birthday or something.

u/Deluge12 · 3 pointsr/headphones

I wanted to upgrade to some better earbuds for about $100. I wanted them to have removable cables so they would last, and found the Shure SE215-K to be a good option.

Link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004PNZFZ8/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1494698682&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=shure%2Bse215&dpPl=1&dpID=31905ZtYEEL&ref=plSrch&th=1&psc=1

I guess my question is: will these be worth it? I mostly listen to music on Spotify. Will I be able to hear the difference or is Spotify compressed too much? Are there any other earbuds with Bluetooth or removable cables that are better for around the same price?

u/kashiwagi · 3 pointsr/lifehacks

Shure SE215

u/mynamejesse1334 · 3 pointsr/headphones

I know not everyone here knows every headphone just from sight, so I included the box in my picture. Just in case, they are the Shure SE215's

I know the picture quality is crap, but the only camera I have is my phone since the only thing I take pictures for is stuff for reddit.

Just got them about 2 hours ago, will be doing a write-up on them within the next few days after I put enough time into them.

Some first impressions: the seal is phenomenal. I got them and then immediately went to do laundry. In a small laundry room with two machines running, I couldn't hear anything other than my music (and it wasn't the volume, I actually turned my phone down from where I normally have it). The built-in ear guides on the cables are...not my preferred choice. I would have preferred normal cables that I could thread through ear guides I already have from Ostry KC06A (which have broke, hence why I got the 215's). The sound is fantastic, definitely a basshead set of IEM's, but they aren't terribly lacking in other ways. Only thing I'm a little disappointed in is that they don't seem to have as large of a soundstage as my KC06A's, which is one of the main things I loved about them. Maybe that will change after some use, maybe not.

Overall these are a fantastic set of IEM's, even if the fit is a bit weird at first, and if you're into EDM or hip-hop I'd definitely recommend them if you're looking at something around the $100 price range

u/trevorsendeavour · 3 pointsr/EDC

Probably not aiding the bulk in any great way, but increasing the benefit by swapping out those earphones. I have the Shure SE215's, and I am very happy with them, better isolation & vastly superior sound than apple earbuds. Plus the cables detach & are replaceable.

u/thedeadlyrhythm42 · 3 pointsr/drums

I've used these Galaxy Audio headphones quite a bit and liked them a lot. They're right around your budget after factoring in tax and US shipping costs, although I don't know if they're available in Australia. I just had a look at some Australian online music stores and didn't see much selection as far as in ears goes.

The SE215's are a very popular recommendation around here and they're currently on sale on amazon and at musiciansfriend (if you're able to order from them). Normally they're a little over your price range but currently they're right on par with the other ones I linked.

u/maltawind · 3 pointsr/headphones

If you're willing to stretch your budget just a little:

  • the Shure SE215-K are solid under-$100 IEM's.

  • I use a pair of Denon AH-C120MA when I'm running and really enjoy them. Cable is pretty durable and tangle-resistant.
u/sparkster185 · 3 pointsr/BuyItForLife

I know you said you wanted "over the ear" type, but I've had a pair of Shure 215s and I love them. They're tiny and don't get in the way, like earbuds, but due to the design they don't fall out, even during activities. They do a fantastic job of blocking outside noise, which means you don't need to turn the volume way up just to hear your music. The sound quality is really good as well (disclaimer: I'm not an audiophile). I was hesitant to spend $90 but I'm glad I did.

u/pocketknifeMT · 3 pointsr/lgv20

This is just going to get into fanboy territory. It's mostly down to taste and getting reputable parts.

My assumptions:

  1. You were cool with stock apple earbuds sound quality, and thus are not a discerning audiophile who cares about technical stuff.

  2. You want more earbuds, not big over-the-ear cans.

    Replacement grade:

    With Inline controls and mic:

Everyone's other go-to suggestion for "I want earbuds":

    https://www.amazon.com/Shure-SE215-K-Isolating-Earphones-MicroDriver/dp/B004PNZFZ8/

Nobody will call your choice regrettable, unless they are being unreasonable.
u/ninjapirate9901 · 3 pointsr/trees

Well it really depends on your budget. For around the $100 mark, I would grab the HiFiMan RE-400's with some Comply Tx-400 tips. If you want more bass then the Shure SE215's are probably a better bet.

Having said that, if you're happy with what you have then just stick with it. When it comes to hi-fi, ignorance is bliss my friend.

u/Wertsir · 2 pointsr/Android

> It's just a habit that I've formed from having good speakers, otherwise I'd probably be just like you.

No I get that, I also desire good sound quality.

The place where we differ is the in my phone bit, for me if I want good sound quality I am either going to plug in my over-ear headphones that cost a few hundred dollars, my in-ear earbuds that cost a hundred, or connect it to one of my portable bluetooth speakers.

No matter how good you get the sound coming from a phone it is never going to get to the level of sound-quality that you can get from a decent pair of headphones, (and it kind of has too, since if they went full-audiophile the price would go up like crazy and few people would buy it) and it is always going to be less... immersive? I guess? because it is coming from a single-source rather than surrounding your ears like good headphones or larger speakers can do, so if I am looking for sound-quality I am going to be looking for an external solution regardless, making the in-phone speaker quality more or less irrelevant.

I currently carry my Shure SE 215 K's (Not the best quality available, but I consider them the best at the price-point I am willing to pay for something I am going to shove in my pocket) in my pocket basically everywhere I go, they are small enough to be basically unnoticeable with my phone in the same pocket. and having heard the sound from some of the audio-focused smartphones I can honestly say that I still prefer my headphones, and that covers 99% of the situations where I only have the stuff in my pockets available rather than other speakers. If I were really worried about being stranded somewhere without a way to play music for multiple people I would just start carrying one of my portable-speakers in my car.

So while I understand the desire for better audio, I still think that getting that audio through the device's included speakers is just a gimmick. (though obviously that doesn't mean you can't appreciate it yourself, I have a Nintendo Switch that I love to bits while still admitting that it is gimmicky as all hell).

u/BestintheVerse · 2 pointsr/hardwareswap

The SP3 was bought in January of 2015. I had to take it in at some point that same year (don't remember the exact month) because I was having issues, and they replaced it with a new unit. Since then I didn't have any issues with the device itself.

Later down the road, I was having problems with the SP3 pen connecting, which is why I replaced it with the SP4 pen (upgraded to the SP4 typecover around the same time), which has worked flawlessly since then. I haven't really used it since graduating last May. I just wiped it today, so it has a fresh install.

Funnily enough, I bought the Shures around the same time (December 2014), although I haven't used them for years (I did test them today to make sure they are still working properly). For reference, this is the exact model I bought. Really the only wear and tear on them is the Shure/SE215 labeling has worn away.

Hope this info helps!

u/Josh6889 · 2 pointsr/running

I love my Sure SE215s. They are pricey, and you will probably have to replace them yearly, but to be fair you said nothing about your price range. They are sound isolating.

u/zanelo · 2 pointsr/headphones

The only alternative to Shure 215 I'm aware of is the clear one, and I think you'd want to go with the standard black one. There is absolutely no functional difference between the two.

u/bkdrummer · 2 pointsr/livesound

The Shure's are a great entry level pair. They are reliable and sound very decent. I actually use an older model of these for ipod headphones, as they sound better than anything else out there that I can find. The best feature IMO is the removable cable. I had a pair of really old entry level Shure IEMs that still sounded great, but the jacket on the cable riiiiight next to the earpiece corroded and it killed them - no fixing it, unfortunately.

http://www.amazon.com/Shure-SE215-K-Sound-Monitor-Black/dp/B004PNZFZ8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1383141290&sr=8-2&keywords=shure+se215

I have a pair that I use - they don't sound quite as good as the Shure's do, but for the price differential, it's no surprise. I have been an audio engineer for 10+ years and can vouch that these things do a pretty damned good job for around $10. You can replace them 10 times for the price of any other "entry level" IEM (In-Ear Monitor).

If you want to go crazy and try molding the earbuds to your ears, check out this how-to:

I've heard IEMs like the shure se215s are good for sleeping. I know other users on here say they can lay on their sides with them in no problem and since they have a removable cable you won't have to be overly cautious about breaking them in your sleep.

u/Infinidecimal · 2 pointsr/headphones

As for a durable IEM with a detachable cable at $100, your search basically ends at the SE215

u/brickfrenzy · 2 pointsr/tall

My most recent pair of Shure earbuds have an extra-long cord. I've found the cheaper the earbuds, the shorter the cord - because cord length is a cost saving mechanism.

I love my Shure SE215s - they're a bit fiddly to get to fit properly but when you do, the isolation is great! Very nice and punchy bass.

They're at sale over at Newegg and Amazon right now so you might be able to grab something that'd usually be above your price range!

u/xPurplexAnarchyx · 2 pointsr/headphones

I'd recommend the Meelectronics M6 Pro but I'd also like to recommend the Audio-Technica ATH-IM50 and if you're able to stretch your budget a bit you can go for the Shure SE215.

Fiio FH1
MSRP: $75

Shure SE215
MSRP: $99

I have had the SE215s for around 3 months now--first impressions here-- and got my FH1s around three days ago--first impressions here. I bought the FH1s to use at my workstation and for on-the-go listening and had bought the SE215s to just try out IEMs with a earhook design.

SE215 vs. FH1

In terms of comfort, I feel that the FH1 are way better than the SE215s, majorly because of the ear hooks on the cables. The hooks on the SE215s just jut out and do not go around the back of my ear as much as securely as I would like them to, whereas the ones on the FH1 fit perfectly.

The eartips of the FH1 seem to go all the way inside my ear, while those on the SE215s do not. This makes for a better seal with the FH1s, making the isolation much better for me. Do keep in mind that everyone’s ears are different, hence this might not be true for your ears.

Now that we have the comfort discussion out of the way, let’s talk about sound quality. This is where the SE215s justify their $24 premium over the FH1. The separation of the instruments was way better on the SE215s, I could clearly make out the different instruments in the track while using the SE215s, but with the FH1 they just seemed to be overlapping to some extent.

The sound seemed to be warmer on the SE215s compared to the FH1s. As for the bass, the FH1s are the clear winners there. The bass on the FH1s is clear and does not leave a rattle.

Disclaimer: I am using the cables and the ear tips that came with the products. Both headphones were tested using my MacBook Pro.

TL;DR: FH1s better than the SE215s in terms of comfort, while SE215s are the clear winners in the sound quality department and justify the $25 premium over the FH1s.

Hope this amateur review is of use.

Over-ear style: Koss Porta
I had a pair of these suckers for almost 2 years before I accidentally drove with them hanging out my car door. Rest in pieces. I liked them because I was able to hear my surroundings, as well as the music, so it seemed like I had movie soundtrack playing in my day-to-day life. They also stuck to my head like glue and were comfy for me.

In-ear isolation: Shure SE215-K
Not the exact pair I had in high school but similar price range. If you use the foam inserts or the triple flange inserts, ya ain't gonna hear much. Decent sound reproduction, maybe a little weak on the low end. Overall I loved these headphones, they could take a beating. The foam inserts do tend to suck up sweat, but I never had issues with them slipping out out on me. They lasted me about 6 years until I misplaced them, they're around somewhere though. I'll probably try to find them today. I think they also survived a trip through the wash.

I can't comment on Jay Birds. I don't know what a Jay Bird is. Sorry if the formatting is messed up, my phone can get fucked.

Shure SE215. $100, removable cable, better sound than most other $100 in-ear monitors (IEMs).

u/BungleSim · 2 pointsr/AskNYC

Shure SE215 sound isolating in-ear monitors. These help filter out the noise of the subway and have a flat EQ response so music sounds like it should. I also wear them with no music playing while reading on the subway and I can't really hear anything unless someone is talking very loudly or yelling. They also have a replaceable cable.

u/soundman92 · 2 pointsr/headphones

I cannot account for the SE215's durability for snowboarding and working out, but I think they will fit your music pallet very well. I love the bass response that they have. For me, they fit in my ear very comfortably. And they are only $100.00 USD.

http://www.amazon.com/Shure-SE215-K-Isolating-Earphones-MicroDriver/dp/B004PNZFZ8

You might want to look into the SE215 blue's. I have heard that they are a lot more prominent in the bass region.

I have had great experience with their previous models, have been using them since 2006. The foam inserts are especially comfy and have been standard for a while now. I recommend the SE-215-k.

Make sure you place them in your ear correctly, this review has some photos demonstrating the proper way where the cords go behind the ears: http://www.earphonesolutions.com/shure-se215-review.html?mode=grid

The reason I am suggesting Shure to you is that the Roku earbuds remind me of the old Shure plastic inserts which I found much more comfortable than most competitors at the time. The plastic ones used to itch if I used them for too long but the foam ones don't seem to have this issue.

If I'm going to work, I roll up my hi-vis vest and stuff it into my helmet with my gloves and put it in a locker at work. Out in public, I lock my helmet to my passenger peg with a pistol bore lock. Forgot what video I watched that someone used it, but it's been a life changer not having to carry a helmet around or leaving it unsecured on the bike. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MJ2Z322/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_YW2BzbK65F9WK

Also, I'd recommend some earplugs if you don't want to listen to music or if you're making a short trip somewhere. These are what I use: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001V2SS9G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_pV2BzbM5W9MEA

If you do want to listen to music, a pair of Shure 215's are great if you don't want a communicator. They're considered monitors, so they have passive noise canceling and foam eartips to block outside noise. Plus they sound amazing, so when you're not on the bike, you have some quality headphones to listen to music with. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004PNZFZ8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_602BzbPVGC44Q

Those three things have made riding and commuting more enjoyable. And, they all fit in a small 5.11 pouch I have attached to my battery cover. Hope all this helps.

u/broken_symlink · 2 pointsr/cscareerquestions

You should consider inner ear monitors instead. I use the shure se215-k at work. I don't know anyone is actually talking to me unless they start waving.

u/ColoradoResidENT · 2 pointsr/headphones

The Shure SE215 sounds like it would suit you well. It has great isolation so the click clacking should be blocked out. The foam olive tips will isolate more than the silicon ones(both types are included). It also has good bass too so it will be fun for EDM but are still versatile enough to sound good with a lot of genres.

u/iThinkergoiMac · 2 pointsr/AskMen

I need to adjust my exemptions, I've owed the last two years and probably will this year.

However, if I can give you some unsolicited advice, don't get Beats headphones. To be blunt, they're overpriced garbage. Sure, they sound good, but you're primarily paying for the brand, not quality. Personally, I'd rather pay for quality than the brand.

If you're looking for headphones, you can't do better than the AudioTechnica M50X headphones for the money. If you're looking for earbuds, I highly recommend the Shure SE215 earbuds. Both of them sound amazing, though if you really want to hear how good they sound, a headphone amp like the FiiO E07K "Andes" will really bring out what the headphones can do. Creative makes some great portable headphone amps as well, though I found that the FiiO (which is surprisingly hard to find now, was easy a year ago) gets digital audio from my iDevices, which is fantastic.

u/randallphoto · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

Not strictly earplugs but these work excellent and give you high quality audio as well.

u/augowl_ · 2 pointsr/headphones

In regards to isolation with IEMs you're going to want to pair whatever you get with foam tips (if it doesn't already come with it).

At $90-100: Shure SE215, comes with foam tips and if you're looking for replacement Shure's are some of the best/most durable and are reasonably priced (especially compared to Comply tips).

At $40-50: MEE M6 Pro, comes with an assortment of tips so you can try foam tips or see if more durable flange tips will work for you (won't for me).

And the obligatory plug for KZ IEMs: The silicone tips and cable they come with are pretty bad. I'd personally recommend buying comply's tips with wax guard (mostly to tame the highs problem they tend to have) which will cost you around $20 for a box. An upgrade cable is recommended by not required and will cost you $10-15 (not providing a link, search for "KZ [IEM model] cable" and it will give you options, different models use different connectors based on how they fit in your ear).

The following are three relatively balanced (newer ZS5's and all ZS6's have some sharp highs that can be brought down with Comply foam tips with wax guard to be enjoyable) options which will depend on what you prefer for aesthetics/build quality/price. Remember to add $20-35 to the prices for tips/cable.

KZ ZST - $20: Plastic and worst build quality, but cheaper and since it's plastic doesn't have the sharp highs of the ZS5/ZS6.

KZ ZS5 - $35-40: Aluminum build, if you're lucky enough to get an earlier build then they won't require light modding or special tips.

KZ ZS6 - $45-50: Newer ZS5 with a slightly different appearance. Also a green option if you search for it.

(Note: All prices were pulled from Amazon, you can get cheaper options if you're willing to wait and deal with ebay/aliexpress/gearbest.)

u/the_monster_consumer · 2 pointsr/audiophile

I would go for IEMs (in-ear monitors) as they will block out more noise than any over ear headphone. The Shure SE-215 will probably do the job fine, although they are under your budget. They are fairly well reviewed so look them up. The foam tips are regarded as exceptionally comfortable, and being worn around-ear takes the pressure off your ear canal.

u/Kami_no_Kage · 2 pointsr/PS4

Yeah, those aren't really the best for gaming, I agree. But I suggested them just in case because I have definitely seen people use them for gaming before.

In general I don't think I'd recommend IEMs heavily for gaming. If you're gonna use 'em outside as well as inside, then yeah, maybe it would be better than a pair of open back headphones. But well, anyway, I've not heard much of that particular pair, and they don't seem incredibly well regarded from a quick check.

With IEMs for gaming it could get more expensive depending on how much soundstage you want or need. Imo, with IEMs, you should either go relatively cheap or just start plunging in, because there's not much amazing in the middle. There are some incredibly good cheap IEMs like the Xiaomi Piston 3s. I have this pair, and I can vouch that they do not sound like $20 IEMs in the least, there is $100 sound in these. The catch is they are often faked, so if you buy a pair, make sure they're real by checking online, but well, it's Amazon, so there should be no issue if they're faked if you buy fulfilled by them, you'll return em easy. But they sound really good, especially for the incredibly low price, and I've tried gaming with them and they do fine for it, though not as great as headphones.

In the middle there is an incredibly well recommended IEM called the Shure s215. Are they good for gaming, well, I've never heard them so I can't fully say. They should be fine, but not amazing.

What will really do you best is a pair of IEMs with incredibly good soundstage, but you'll unfortunately be paying a lot more for really good soundstage in an IEM. I recommend just plunging in and spending a lot if what you want is IEMs, something like the Sennheiser IE80s. These are well known for very wide soundstage and clarity, and they'd probably do you best for gaming because of it. But the price is up there compared to a pair of headphones as you can see.

For noise cancelling I don't know much admittedly. I think Bose is still well recommended for noise cancelling, but I also think I've heard cheap Bose headphones aren't amazing. I've heard of the Bose QC25s as being good I think? But again, you're paying a premium for the noise cancelling. I would suggest IEMs over noise cancelling personally.

Fidelio X2s need a headphone amp which will run you some good extra money besides the price of them alone, I don't recommend them unless you're willing to shell out at least an extra $100 besides their price. The HD 598s are amazing at their price point for everything, probably the single best all around headphones at the price range, and the best ones for gaming imo. They're the ones I recommend most.

I'm sorry I've written you a novel here by the way, but I hope I helped a little!

u/porksandwich9113 · 2 pointsr/headphones

There are really a ton of factors to consider. Where are you using them? Are you active at all? Are you historically tough on your headphones?

Personally, I am a huge fan of IEM's. You can use them everywhere. Walking, School, Gym, Bus, Computer, Phone, ect.

Like you said, IEM's break. Often. I like my investment to last, and seeing as 99.95% of all broken IEM's are a result of broken/busted cables and the IEM being completely fine, I like to get a set with modular cables. (AKA replaceable cables.)

I own two sets with replaceable cables, the Shure SE215's (~90$) and UE 900's. Both are amazing. I have had the SE215's for a number of years. I use them at the gym, out running, hiking, and basically anything active. I have gone through probably 4 different sets of cables over the years and the IEM's are still going strong.

If you are willing to shell out 100$ I wouldn't buy anything else.

http://www.amazon.com/Shure-SE215-K-Sound-Monitor-Black/dp/B004PNZFZ8

If you want a over the ear set, I'd get the ATH M50's. They are usually ~140-150$, but you can often find them on sale for about 125$. Easily the best set at that price range in terms of sound quality, comfort, and build quality.

If you are dead set on <=50$, the Monoprice 8323 are a nice set of budget cans.
If you are willing to look in the 50-100$ range, I'd also take a look at the Creative Aurvana Live (60$), Grado SR-60i (80$), and the ATH-AD700 (100$).

Shure's SE215-K have arguably the best sound quality of any <$100 IEM. But, I would grab a pair of Meelectronics M6s for running and other abusive activities. They are only $18 and you are not going to notice a subtle difference in sound quality (they are still better than most other <$100 IEMs) while running.

As was already mentioned, all you need is a small mixer, e.g. this Mackie 5-channel mixer, and a pair of headphones/earbuds. I recommend the Shure SE215.

Budget - $75-300 (hard limit Is $300 – around $200 would be great but I’m flexible if I can find the right headphones)

Source – Dell laptop computer E7470 (work). At work I’m usually using the high quality stream/download from Spotify. I also use Soundcloud for DJ mixes, and Apple Music.

Requirements for Isolation – I prefer at least some. I work in an office where some people are fairly loud

Will you be using these Headphones in Public? – Yes, daily at work. It is possible I would take these on flights, but I wouldn’t be using in any other public area.

Preferred Type of Headphone – Full sized is preferable, but I would consider on-ear or even in-ear if all other criteria could be met.

Preferred tonal balance – I prefer balanced. I could deal with a little bit of bass enhancement as long as everything else is balanced and the bass isn’t overdone (which usually seems to be the case when bass is enhanced).

Past headphones – Right now I’m using cheap Skull Candy earbuds at work. I previously used Shure SE215-K at work. I recently lost these on a trip when I left them on a plane. I did like the Shure headphones. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004PNZFZ8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. I used to use Sony MDR V700 headphones for club DJ’ing (house music).

Best purchase I ever made was a pair of sound isolating earbuds (Designed for use by drummers/musicians I think). They aren't difficult to cart around and don't get your ears sweaty like a big pair of closed back headphones, but are fantastic isolation from everyone else. Put on some comfortable level music and you are in your own little world of happyness.

On the motorbike, trains with loud kids, gym with pounding music... all are so much less irritating now!

These are the ones I use, but I'm sure there are alternative brands

I use Shure SE215-K Sound Isolating Earphones. I have them plugged into my Sena 10S.

They have great sound, fit under my helmet, and come with a multitude of various plugs to fit almost any ear size/shape. They've got very good sound isolation and work effectively as earplugs. The cord hooks over the back of your ears so they won't get pulled out when you put your helmet on either.

The sound is really decent, and beat the hell out of the crappy Sena speakers that my 10S came with. I wore out my first pair Shure headphones after many years, and bought a new pair last year. And, if you don't want to spend the money on the Sena, just plug the Shure headphones into your phone instead.

u/Spenk009 · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

My Shure SE215 have replacable cables, but even 2 years of much wear and tear in both hot and cold have only produced a minor splitting in one cable that doesn't really affect the sound...

I think most 100€/$+ earphones have a good chance of having replacable cables. Finding those replacements however, is a different game.

u/Ranguesy · 1 pointr/headphones

I'm looking for a general use set of IEM's, I will be wearing them while unpacking shipment containers at my retail job (high potential that they will snag something and be pulled out of my ears) and also want to be able to wear them in bed. My budget is $75-150 however I will splurge if there is a pair near $200 that is a significant step up.

My source will be my cellphone (nexus 5)

My previous pair of IEMs lasted me a year and a half before the left channel died on me. The sound signature (a little bass-y) seemed to suit what I listen to when working: instrumental metal and vocal EDM/DnB. I was not a fan of the uneven cable length though.

Currently I have my eye on shure se215 IEMs, I do have a few concerns before buying though. I've heard the isolation is pretty strong on these, would silicone tips open that up a bit? (I tend to prefer silicone anyhow, waiting 15 seconds per foam tip is a pain in the ass) I've also heard the cable is quite stiff, would that be problematic if I'm moving around working on unloading a shipment?

I'm definitely open to other recommendations even if you don't have an opinion on the se215s.

u/gsmalleus · 1 pointr/Music

I use the Shure SE315's. They are in-ear buds and provide great sound quality. They also have the Shure SE215's which are in your price range. But if you are looking for more for the large closed-ear type headphones you can ignore this post.

u/DiggleLife · 1 pointr/headphones

Budget - 150$

Source - Laptop mostly

Requirements for Isolation - A must have. Will be using at home when it's really loud most of the time.

Preferred Type of Headphone - Conflicted between IEM and full-size right now. I want the portability and isolation of the IEMs but I feel like I can get so much more from regular headphones at the same price point.

Preferred tonal balance - Nothing really preferred since I'm new to all this

Past headphones - Cheap 20$ hand-me-down from a friend

Preferred Music - All sorts

What would you like to improve on from your set-up - I want something durable that'll last for a good while. Need isolation above all else though.

I've been looking at the Shure 215 and the RE400 as my top picks so far. But I can get the ATH m40x for the same price as the 215s. Any advice?

Edit: The m6 pros look like a nice cheaper alternative too.

u/matthewdavis · 1 pointr/gadgets

2nd vote for the Shures. Shure have a name in the professional line of audio equipment. So if you are willing to spend a few extra bucks for a pair of earbuds, you won't regret it. The se215's are their entry model and pack a decent punch.

I've been using Shures for probably 4 years now. And absolutely love their new cable design. The ability to detach the ear peice from the cable make it much easier to replace the cables later. In all the years of having Shures' the weakest link was the piece of cable that went over your ear. This always started to crack. Which I put electrical tape to extend the life of it a bit. But then the cable would start to short. Shure replaced 2 of my headphones free of charge while they were under warranty. But now I can just get a new cable for $35.

Hey there! Looking for some advice.

I'll be visiting the States in a couple weeks time and have been wanting new ear buds for a very long time.

I've heard many good things about the 215's sound and value, and the BlueBud's sound and convenience. Currently on Amazon, the BlueBuds X is $116USD whilst Shure 215 is $89USD. Is $27USD worth the difference?

Source: PC/Phone
Location: USA/AUS
Budget: $75-150 ---> Mostly looking for value
Isolation: Because I'll most likely be using it whilst I ride, isolation shouldn't be a lot, maybe some. Not a big deal
In public? Yes, not like a shopping center, more like a school classroom.
Preferred Type of Headphone: IEM's
Preferred tonal balance: Not an audiophile, preferably balanced - an all rounder
Preferred Music: I just listen to the radio's songs because im lazy :p
What would you like to improve on from your set-up: Just looking for a reliable, value orientated and excellent sound out of an IEM.

I am planning to use them few times a week for leisure listening and riding my bike. I'm also not a huge audiophile, just a guy looking for excellent sound and value.

Any advice/opinion would be appreciated!

The SE215s are what I use. It took me a week to get used to them (they're in my ear! wtf?) but now I can't take the subway without them—whether or not I'm listening to music.

I think I have it down to between the Shure SE215s and the Klipsch S4A IIs. I am considering the S4A IIs because I have read good things about the S4s, and I think the S4A IIs is just a better version with support for Android volume control/mic.

I think to me it is going to come down to which ever one is the most comfortable. Sound will not be a problem, either one of them are going to blow me away for IEMs (Apple's before these). Which would you say is more comfortable?

EDIT: If the S4A IIs suck, by all means let me know :D

Just a heads up, my suggestion is going to be double the upper end of your budget. I'll give you my reasoning for it though, but TL;DR: I own them and love them.

These are made by Shure. I absolutely love them. I have had them for a few years now (3 going on 4). The sound quality is a huge step up from the earbuds that come with an iPod, and when paired with triple flange sleeves they block out an incredible amount of sound. They are also great for running and working out because they literally will not fall out of your ear.

Why would I would suggest paying 100 dollars for these? They last. If they break, Shure is a great company with really great customer service. I've returned older models to them on a few occasions, and each time they have sent me brand new earphones, not refurbished, but brand new, in retail packaging earphones. If they are out of warranty and Shure won't replace them, the cable is detachable and can be swapped out for pretty cheap (20 dollars or so). So lets say you buy a new pair of earphones every six months, which isn't too unreasonable. That's 40 dollars a year- in two and a half, you're breaking even with a pair of Shures. Getting 2.5 years out of them isn't unreasonable either. Add in how much better the sound quality is and I really think it's a good deal. Like I've said, I've had mine for going on four now and haven't had any problems with them yet.

u/dcoolidge · 1 pointr/headphones

I don't have much experience with IEMs. My favorite is the Beyerdynamic DTX 102 iE, but they may be a bit bass heavy for you. People seam to like Shure SE215-K which are on sale here in the states for about $99...

Budget: up to $150 (Preferably under $125)

Source: iPhone5, MacBook Air

Requirements for Isolation: Excellent. This is the biggest challenge for me--I am a university student who struggles immensely to focus with background noise. I would like these to be my number-one tool to zone in.

Preferred Type of Headphone: IEM or closed over the ear, more preference for IEM in order to use while exercising as well.

Preferred tonal balance: Balanced. I do not want the bass to be sub-par, but am not terribly picky.

Past headphones: Nothing fancy. When in need, I borrow my friend's Audio-Technica ATH-M50, but those do not block out noise enough for me.

Preffered Music: Jazz, Classical, and Indie/Rock/Funk

Location: California, Usa. (Library, bookstore, dorm in which conversation is happening, coffee shops)

I was considering the Etymotic Research HF5 or Shure SE215-K but am concerned that they will not last longer than a few months, as the low-star rating on Amazon suggest.
Alternatively, I am considering the RHA MA750 but worry that the bass will be lacking and the sound will not be balanced--also, the Amazon reviews don't acclaim their noise reduction at all, which is very important for me.

Many thanks!

Budget - $100-$150 (although my max is $200 if they're that good)

Source - iPhone 5s

Isolation - Sound can't leak because I'll be using them in school. They're going to be my go-to for being in public so this is pretty important.

Type - IEM

Past Headphones - NAD Viso HP50. Love these headphones but I need something I can use in public since they look a little silly. Sound wise the're great although I'd like it if they were a little warmer. I also have the apple ear buds but they're extremely uncomfortable and always pop out of my ears when walking. Also, they don't sound that great.

Preferred music - I'm really into hip hop right now (Kendrick, Kanye). I like alternative music as well and some rock when I'm feeling it.

Additional Info - After checking around on reddit and innerfidelity I've narrowed it down to the Shure SE215 and the RHA MA750. I like that the 215 has such good isolation and base (plus they look cool) but the 750's seem to have better sq overall. The build quality is important too since I can guarantee they'll be seeing some abuse. I'm really looking for a fun IEM so if there are any better ones in my price range please comment and let me know. Thanks for the help!

More info: Looking for a durable set of headphones that can survive being carried around in my backpack, so if it comes with a small case that is a plus. I've had the shure e2s since '06 and the right ear wire is finally splitting, and shocking me. They were pretty awesome headphones for the time and have held up wonderfully over the past 10 years.

I'm currently trying to decide between the Shure SE215 and the Ety HF5. I was sold on getting the shure until I saw they were bass heavy. Then I saw the HF5s which have good reviews but it looks like they have weird ear plugs which I don't know if they would fit.

I've looked through some of the links at the top and it's a bit overwhelming. Any suggestions to push me towards the se215 or the HF5, or a different set all together would be super helpful. Thanks!

I have an Icon Airmada helmet and a Sena 20s. I hated the speakers that came with the helmet. I have had to RMA them twice now. I have started using a pair of IEMs with mine. Specifically I use a pair of Shure se215s I had sitting around. The IEMs act as both earplugs and speakers. I can really hear what is coming in music, phone calls, anything else. They protect my hearing like plugs do.

They are inconvenient as I have a cable dangling down my front, but I always just zip that up in my jacket and get riding. The specific headphone extension I own kept falling out, so I zip tied it into place. I had gone through three, shorter extensions, but they kept failing on me at the bottom of the reinforcement.

The IEMs I also chose because they are relatively low profile, and they loop around the back of the ears so they resist pulling out when I put my helmet on. I also ride with a neck gaiter pulled up over the back of my head as well. I run the IEMs up to my ears, pull the neck gaiter on and then shove my helmet on top of all of that. I personally love IEMs anyways, so this was about as good as it can get for me.

I'd keep an eye out for the Etymotic Research ER4P-T MicroPro, but they haven't have a significant price drop in a year. [Completely of your price range, I had the currencies mixed up). An alternative would be the Etymotic HF3..

Otherwise, I'd give the Shure SE215's a try. My brother has them and loves them.

There's the bose QC20's at the top of your budget as well, but they're active so the battery pack might be bulky to work out with. Wrong currencies, out of your mentioned price range. But active would cancel more sound than passive (which do not require batteries).

u/raistlin65 · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

You want IEMs--inner ear monitors--rather than earpods that don't insert. IEMs seal the ear with the earphone. That will provide you the isolation that you want as long as you get a good seal. The fit can be adjusted by using different ear tips, so for most people it's not a problem to get a good seal.

Also look for IEMs that are described as sealed, not ported. Ported means it has a small hole in the back that may let in some sound.

Shure SE215 have very good isolation. They do have some bass emphasis if you like that https://www.amazon.com/Shure-SE215-K-Isolating-Earphones-MicroDriver/dp/B004PNZFZ8

Wraps over the top of your ear so it doesn't get pulled out when putting on your helmet(This is better than that stupid flimsy plastic junk on your Bose).

Sidenote: If you use these daily like I do, plan on replacing the cable every 6 months or so. The cables are $30 a pop for OEM, or you can get cheap china cables for about $10-$15. If you plan on using the foamie tips, look up how to properly insert them (roll, lick, & stick method)

I am currently considering Shure SE215-K Live Sound Monitor and RHA MA750i Noise Isolating Premium In-Ear Headphone with Remote and Microphone. Does anybody have experience with either? Which would you recommend? If not either of these, what do you think are the best IEMs with my criteria?

u/Adamance · 1 pointr/oneplus

I just added an extra cable to be able to charge at different locations using the USB port at least. By headphones you mean the earphones offered by OnePlus? If you are an audiophile I would not recommend ever using stock earphones.

They tend to be low quality and break easily depending on how much you use them. Over the last decade I've went through at least a dozen pairs of different brands and I couldn't recommend Shure more. Like these Shure SE215 (Canadian Amazon) Shure SE215 (US Amazon) with detachable cables.

From my experience cable break before the earphones do and changing them ends up being cheaper than buying new earphones each time. I use my earphones at least four hours a day and I've went from Shure SE215 to SE425 over time.

u/Mpalmer99 · 1 pointr/Helmerdrake

I'm not an audiophile, but i have also been on a quest for a good set of IEM's that are reasonably priced. I first tried the Shure E215. They sound good and have great noise isolation. They're almost like having in ear plugs. The build quality is also great. I listen for long periods of time @ work (6-8 hours per day) and i found them to get uncomfortable towards the end of the day. Not terribly uncomfortable, but not pleasant to wear.

Next I tried the Focal Sphear IEM's. These sound great! I love them. They blow away the Shure E215 IEM's. The bass signature is very tight. I've never understood what people mean by muddy or booming bass, but after hearing the Focal IEM's i think I have a better idea. The sound overall is very clean. Makes me want to listen to all my music over again. They are very comfortable to wear, but don't have the noise isolation that the Shure IEM's have, but they sound much better IMO.

Again, I'm no audiophile so I probably don't know what I'm talking about!

I'm running my Sonys and E10K when I'm at home or my desk at work, but I also travel very frequently, and want something that can keep up with that modest rig while I'm traveling, and working at my client's office 5-10 days a month (but quite likely going to 16-20 days in Q1). I don't like the idea of wearing over-ears there, and portability is key. Even my Sonys are a little big to pack in my laptop bag.

I do have trouble with IEMs being comfortable. The Klipsch I have came with 6 different tips, and none of them feel good. All of the 2 tier ones don't isolate well, the medium ovals are just a tiny bit small, and allow sound to cut off as I move around, and the large are too large, and quickly become uncomfortable. I've considered buying Comply comfort tips, but the cable is getting shitty, and makes a TON of noise (always worn over-ear). I'd also kinda like iPhone controls, but not absolutely necessity.

So, I've read all the guides, and have started to consider:

u/Not_enough_yuri · 1 pointr/headphones

Bose headphones are okay at best, mostly mediokre, but the real drawback is that they generally have a really crappy value when it comes to price/performance. For less money, you could get Shure SE215s or Hifiman RE400s for less, and they'll probably sound better than whatever Bose has to offer. You wouldn't exactly be buying bad headphones, but you'd be wasting your money.

Hey Guys! I think I've narrowed down my choice in wired IEM to these two.
Sennheiser Mometum IEM vs Shure SE215. I'd love to hear your opinions! Information about what I'd like below. Also, if you know of a better option than these two that fits my needs I'd love to hear it! Thanks!

Budget - Below $200 (The two I'm deciding between are ~$130)

Source - iPhone X

Requirements for Isolation - Some, to a lot. Using in gym/university, decently loud areas.

Will you be using these Headphones in Public? - Yep.

Preferred Type of Headphone - IEM (see above)

Preferred tonal balance - I wouldn't go as far to say I'm a basshead but I like my metal to hit hard and my hip hop beats to feel deep.

Past headphones - I had a pair of Senn IEM's for like. 8 years. Loved them. Cable broke. Don't know the model, but paid like $80 for em.

Preferred Music - Metal/Hiphop/Prog/Everything else. (sorry, this is no help)

What would you like to improve on from your set-up - I just have to imagine that a bit more in spending + 8 years in technology changes means I have to be getting a better sound with these, no? That and I'd love it they last as long as my last pair.

u/Bush_Whacker · 1 pointr/hiphopheads

For in-ear's, I have purchased multiple pairs from Klipsch. They're my favorite in-ear brand. From Klipsch, I can recommend the R6i's

Shure is also a great brand I've used. The SE215K fits your budget.

Now as for which one I prefer, I personally like the sound of the R6i's more. However, I purchased the SE215's because of the detachable and replaceable cable. From my experience the cable of Klipsch headphones are very fragile, and tend to wear. The SE215's have yet to break on me. Klipsch headphones for me tend to last for a year before the plug breaks. It isn't too big of a deal if you don't mind soldering and repairing them, but otherwise you should go with the SE215's.

My main goal is actually protecting my hearing. I use machinery often and wear hearing protectors at work and at home. From looking at posts on /r/headphones I found a couple brands, Etymotic and Shure that make earbuds that offer good noise isolation. They appear to be marketed mostly to professional musicians.

Unfortunately since I use power tools I can't have a cord that hangs below my waist (IE into my pocket) where it may get caught by a blade and pull me in. Peltor's stuff attracted me because it is wireless and has some hearing protection. I was just curious if anyone could attest to how well it cancels incoming sound and what quality the speakers in the headset are. I mainly listen to news broadcast, but might occasionally listen to music.

Shure SE215
These are the ones i use daily and also in the gym. Not only do they sound great, they wont fall out because of how you wear them. You can change the Cord which is allways good.
You will also not hear a thing with these in at moderate volume. I usually have them a little above half on my mp3 player, because i dont want to damage my ears :P
The sound will be too good to only enjoy audiobooks tho, you will have to try them with some music^^ The bass is really great on those.

What's your definition of "cheapish"?? I bought these for $100 and I've been really happy. They also have a replaceable cord, which is sweet. I got real sick of buying those $20-$50 earphones, only to have the cord break after a month. I've had these for over a year now and the cord is still sturdy, but it's nice to know that I wouldn't have to spend another $100 if the cord breaks.

Is it worth selling/trading my Beyerdynamic MMX 101 iE IEMs for the Shure SE215 or HiFiMAN RE-400 Waterline? Following the format:

Budget - <$125

Source - Nexus 5, Desktop w/ ASUS Xonar DG 5.1

Requirements for isolation - Decent isolation

Preferred type of headphone - IEM

Preferred tonal balance - Decent bass, good clarity

Past headphones - Beyerdynamic MMX 101 iE, Sennheiser MM30I

Preferred music - Electronic, Jazz, Indie, Big Band

I'm from Vancouver, Canada if that makes a difference.

r/headphones

but consider the Shure 215's

Located In Canada

Budget - up to $200

Source - Android Phone LG G3 - Poweramp And Windows 10 PC when I'm home.

Requirements for Isolation - Will be using on Public Transport

Will you be using these Headphones in Public? Yes mainly on the bus to and from college.

Preferred Type of Headphone -IEMS

Preferred tonal balance - Balanced with strong vocals. I don't want the beat of the music to overpower the vocals.

Past headphones - Sennhesier Momentum - I loved the sound. However the cord has begun tearing near the plug. I wouldn't mind a replaceable cord.

UrBeats - Bass was too strong. Didn't like it very much. Cord also ripped. That seems to be the #1 cause towards the death of my headphones.

Preferred Music -Hiphop/Rap

J Cole

Hamilton Musical

Eminem

Logic

Skepta

Joey Badass

Mick Jenkins

Mos Def

Tribe called Quest

Nas

Personal Favourites - Clock Work Indigio - Butterfly Effect

GDP - Succumb

What would you like to improve on from your set-up - Replaceable Cable would be nice but isn't a requirement.

Been looking at Shure SE215's and Mee Audio P1

u/Chrisfand · 1 pointr/headphones

Budget - $120 slightly flexible

Source - iPhone, PS4 controller, PC

Isolation - none

Public? yes

Preferred Type - Never used IEMs but from some googling it seems to be better than earbuds?

tonal balance - balanced because I'll be using it for gaming as well as music

Past headphones - HD 598. Loved everything except bass was slightly lacking and they are basically unusable in public.

Preferred Music - Don't think it matters since I'll be gaming with these earbuds too. I don't listen to bass heavy music but I do need an acceptable amount of bass for shooting and explosions while gaming.

improve on from your set-up - I have no other earbuds to compare iphone earbuds to so pretty much everything. Comfort is really important because I'd like to be able to fall asleep on my side with the earbuds on.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Thinking of getting the Shure SE215. Is there anything as good or better with a mic?

u/CareerRejection · 1 pointr/headphones

I'd suggest a closed, v shaped headset, that doesn't need to be amped or an IEM. The shure srh840 or dt770 80ohm for over ears. For IEMs the shure se215k is probably the best bang for the buck. Honestly since you travel more frequently the IEM route might be best.

u/enginerdy · 1 pointr/cscareerquestions

I picked up a pair of Shure SE215's about a year ago, and I've been very happy. The ear bud tips are essentially foam ear plugs, so I can't really hear anything in the office around me.

I would hold off on buying the FK. If the FK1 is too big then wait for the FK2 which should be smaller whenever it comes out.

Do yourself a favor and invest more into your headset. Music is a wonderful thing and you'll be amazed at how often you will rediscover new components to your favorite songs. You really do hear things that you've never quite noticed before. As a headset my highest recommendation goes to Audio Technica's ATH-ADG1. If $100 is your maximum, I would go for either of these:

Westone UM Pro10
Shure SE215-K
*Creative Aurvana Live

The last being my last resort for you. Good luck.

u/FatBox360 · 1 pointr/headphones

Um, it's hard to say what is better since the HiFiMan's are this and the Shure's are this. I use the Shures when I'm not at home or in bed and the big cans at my desk or in my listening chair.

I guess if I could only have one for the rest of my life it would be the HE-400s. But it's a Sophie's choice.

shure se215, I have a set and they're absolutely awesome at noise isolating.

  • Will you be using these Headphones in Public? - Yes
  • Preferred Type of Headphone - IEMs
  • Preferred tonal balance - Balanced
  • Past headphones - Bose SoundSport in-ear headphones, Beats Solo 2 (never again)

I've been considering the Shure SE215 but the over-ear looping aspect is a pretty big turnoff for me.
u/BlackHammer596 · 1 pointr/headphones

Best IEMs for less than a 100 bucks? Hows the Shure SE215-K? What about over-ear headphones that produce some good bass? :D

u/PHC_Tech_Recruiter · 1 pointr/AskNYC

Shure Shure SE215-K Sound Isolating Earphones with Single Dynamic MicroDriver are great!

I also have a pair of Sony Studio MDR700's which are my favorite (albeit a bit bulky).

For wireless I have the S2CDW Skullcandy bluetooth sports buds.

u/jackdriper · -1 pointsr/audiophile

The ATH-M50s are pretty much the most common recommendations you'll get on the internet.

If noise isolation is what you want, it's hard to get better than IEM's. The Shure SE215 is a good option in your price range. I had a pair of SE115's for a while and loved them. And you couldn't hear a person yelling next to you.
