Here is one that my squad and I have zero issues with. Works like a charm.

Well... 84% of reviews with 4 stars or more isn't worth trusting surely.
If someone's short on money while having an insanely slow PC, it's still much better than keeping complaining.

I bought this SSD for just over $30 Silicon Power 256GB SSD 3D NAND... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075RJS55D?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

And then this case all for under $50 Sabrent 2.5-Inch SATA to USB 3.0... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OJ3UJ2S?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Totally worth it in my opinion. Buildings and weapons are loaded in when I drop on all of the maps :)

u/AvadaKedavraPoops · 9 pointsr/PUBGXboxOne

Not sure what conflicting answers you speak of.

Any modern/new SSD of 256GB or more will suffice. Whether that's an internal or external is up to you. An internal will need an adapter that transfers it's connection to USB 3.

Name brands MAY last longer than a cheap off brand, but the data in test results doesn't really support that. I use an external Samsung T5 but only because I got it for a birthday present. Most of my friends have Amazon specials that cost far less and so far have given the same results in PUBG.

Here is the SSD I bought. $31. You also need to buy a $10 enclosure to plug it in via usb. It has made a massive difference. I would never, ever, ever even try to play this game with out it. Just think about it like upgrading your PC.

I have an SSD and that improved my loading times by a good amount of time, also helps to have better internet, my speeds are good enough but not great at all.

They really aren't that expensive, I'll point you in the right direction if you want. Also helps a ton with games like PUBG, BF, Red Dead, GTA etc.

.

Edit: If anyone is wondering I have one 512GB Silicon Power 3D NAND A55 SLC Cache Performance Boost SATA III 2.5" 7mm (0.28") Internal Solid State Drive from Amazon for $49.99 USD along with another of the same Silicon Power SSD but in 256GB for $28.99 USD.

Then you need the enclosure which costs $8.99: Sabrent 2.5-Inch SATA to USB 3.0 Tool-Free External Hard Drive Enclosure [Optimized for SSD, Support UASP SATA III]. Super simple set up, literally open the enclosure by sliding the top off, slide the SSD into the connection slot in the enclosure, put the top on, plug it in to the USB slot and turn the thing on. Really nice price, had never heard of the brand but it has really good reviews, and works well for me. Just about the cheapest SSD I've seen on Amazon with an average review of 4.5+ (and at least 1k reviews).

This is the exact setup I just bought for my 1TB Xbox One. PUBG is amazing as well as I found a massive improvment in Tera Online. I also just needed more space.

I bought this one recently. Its a little expensive, but its an official one made for xbox one by seagate, so decided to spend the extra money to get it as i had gift cards i needed to use anyway.

If you want one thats much cheaper that should work just as good, get this one:

There is definitely a way to cut corners even further while getting higher performance at the same time. Especially since you don't mind going used.

PC: This $200 Dell Optiplex. It comes with an i7 2600 (4 cores 8 threads), 8GB of RAM, a 500GB HDD, and Windows 10 Pro.

GPU: This $226 Gigabyte GTX 1050 Ti.

    • -
Total: $426 ($496 if with monitor below)
    • -
This is much better bang for your buck and it will definitely work without issue. The CPU is still very strong and goes toe to toe with present-day ones. The GPU is a little better as well and has 2GB more vram, and the stock PSU is more than enough to handle it (if unsure, get a 450W bronze). Consider getting a GTX 1060 6GB for roughly twice the general performance (if getting the GTX 1060 consider settling for a nice 500W bronze or a higher wattage/rating if you plan on overclocking later).

Please also consider getting an SSD to clone the OS on your hard drive to it (here's a Silicon Power 256GB for $65). You can even fit in a cheaper monitor with 1080p, 60Hz, and IPS if you want to. This one's on sale for $70 at Best Buy.
    • -
New Total (if GTX 1060 6GB added, along with monitor): $640

It definitely runs better and always has there's just a lot of crashing bugs with the May update.

My buildings render a lot better (everything is usually loaded in as soon as I'm in the plane), the console is pretty quite, and all my other games look amazing and load faster.

I play CODWWII, Assassins Creed Origins, and NBA 2K and it's a way better experience than my OG Xbox.

I upgraded bc my disc drive in my OG Xbox was busted and I had to tilt my xbox up to a 45 degree angle for the discs to be read lol.

EDIT: I also just ordered the SSD below bc I had the extra cash, it arrives today so I'll let you know if it makes difference with PUBG and my other games:

If you need recommendations, These are the exact ones I purchased, but basically just look for good price and decent ratings on amazon. Make sure to get a good usb 3.0 enclosure too, if you didn’t know that already, ssd’s won’t come with a way to connect to USB already in the box.

I think your best bet would probably be one of these Silicon Power 256GB SSDs from Amazon. Link.

They aren't the most well known brand and they aren't as good as something like a Samsung SSD, but most people find they work well and at only $63.99 US I'm pretty sure it's the best you're going to get storage wise without increasing your price range a bit or buying something used or completely unknown from eBay.

I know it's not much of a price difference but how much faster is this drive compared to this?

u/ckerazor · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Damn. I started the answer a while ago and then forgot about it and applied the 1909 Windows 10 update to my system, removing the answer from my browser. Ah, technology! :D

If you're working with 2K and 4K footage, you might get 2 250 GB SSD for the video drive array (RAID 0) and if you're happy with 250 GB for your system drive, that might do just fine aswell. In total, that would be 328 bucks (USD, Amazon.com) for the three drives, as you have your storage and backup at your school's NAS.

Drive: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075RJS55D/ref=sr_1_4?__mk_de_DE=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&keywords=250+gb+ssd&qid=1573667364&sr=8-4

I'm glad my comments were insightful and you're welcome. If you have further questions, don't hesitate asking them. For 2K editing, the "smaller" configuration will be fine. If you'll do 8K stuff some time in the future, you'll need a beefy 2*M.2 PCIe SSD RAID for a good experience.

u/rompunch · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Trust me, for the performance boost you get, this is NOT unreasonably expensive https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075RJS55D/

I just bought these a couple weeks ago for my 1X and they’ve worked great:

256 GB SSD ($31)

USB3 SSD Enclosure

These were the best deals I could find... very well reviewed and work great. Buildings are rendered before I land (weapons take another 0-2 seconds). I got 256 GB because it’s the minimum needed for Xbox and I mostly just wanted it for PUBG. If you want to put a lot of games on it though then I’d get a bigger drive and maybe look at SSHD options (cheaper but supposedly work about as well). Main things I checked were read/write speeds, price, and reviews (specifically reviews mentioning Xbox).

u/CentercutPorkchop · 2 pointsr/PUBGXboxOne

This is perfect! Thank you so much!!

So you have this SSD and then this enclosure, right?

So theoretically if I wanted more space I could go with this 1TB SSD?

Well, I have been messing around with everything computer related and iracing related. I turned on the alphabet meters on in Iracing and I finally have everything where it is all good and in the green. Now, the only other issue I am having is a slight stutter in my rift here and there and noticed when looking at the meters my R&G are in the yellow. My "R" is at bounces from race to race from about 8 - 11 but mostly I noticed it is about 10ish and my "G" is about 8ish but sometimes goes down to about 6ish. To battle this I have been trying everything I can think of or find on a google search on the matter but nothing seems to do it. I read I might be able to overclock my CPU but that looks like it is a little over my head at a level I am not comfortable in as I am NO Bill Gates or any of you for that matter. I have no business messing around with the things I have messed with thus far and consider myself lucky at this point and dont think it is wise to push the envelope as they say but my longing for seamless VR and graphics the way they are supposed to be viewed keeps tugging at my shirt and bugging me. I read somewhere that Afterburner might be causing it. Disabling the power monitoring in Afterburner might help fix the stuttering problem I have now. I am going to do it in a few and I'll let you all know how she went. So far to fix it I have, Turned down everything in graphics, made sure every backround app thingy is not running in the backround, uninstalled everything (I.E. Iracing, Oculus, Trading paints, ect) and redownloaded Iracing, and Oculus only trying to find the greedy app that is taking away my power. If you have any Ideas................LMK as it is driving me nuts and making it so I dont even want to race anymore because of the hours and days of trial and error and it is making me sick thinking about all the money and time I have spent on trial and error and not racing. If this dont work I am thinking about a new CPU.

I have a:

Intel I7 4790K @ 4.00GHz, 4001MHz, with 4 cores

16GB ram

Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming G1 board

SSD Silicon Power 256GB SSD 3D NAND A55 SLC Cache Performance Boost SATA III 2.5" 7mm (0.28") Internal Solid State Drive (SP256GBSS3A55S25)

Gigabyte 6GB GTX 1060 ( couldn't afford a 1070 or 1080)

Now, I know it is a little dated but it should be able to run Iracing just fine you would think. Iv'e seen other posts where they are running just fine with less than I have so I am perplexed as to the issues I am having. SMFH

Just curious, which one did you get? I got this one.

I should re-note that the SSD was a huge improvement for my OG Xbox One. I don't have an S, but it's funny because I bought the OG and then the Scorpio Edition, and I gave that to my son. When we play pubg together, he always brags that his loads first. Yesterday was my first day with the SSD, and he complained every game because I was loading faster---and he tried to get me to give him the SSD for the Scorpio.

I refused.

I have this one. Only thing is you have to get a sata to usb cable. Most of my friends run ssd as well and I’m usually the first one to load everything. Anyways works perfect for me and at that price you can’t beat it

I've personally used the Silicon Power and the Inland drives before. They're nothing special. The 256gb Silicon power is in my plex server/Nas as a cache drive.

Then 120gb ...I think I gave it to a friend..

Strange. You can buy a decent SSD for under $30 these days, so there's no reason not to get one.

u/daniel_trigs · 1 pointr/buildapc

Yeah this is a solid build.

Some recommendations if you can spare an extra $30-$35:

  1. Get a sapphire rx580:

Sapphire Technology Technology 11265-05-20G Radeon Pulse RX 580 8GB GDDR5 Dual HDMI/ DVI-D/ Dual DP OC with Backplate (UEFI) PCI-E Graphics Card Graphic Cards https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06ZZ6FMF8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_THULDb6WS9RMS

  2. Instead of just a 500gb ssd:

-Use a 250gb ssd as your boot drive:

Silicon Power 256GB SSD 3D NAND A55 SLC Cache Performance Boost SATA III 2.5" 7mm (0.28") Internal Solid State Drive (SP256GBSS3A55S25) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075RJS55D/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_FFULDbMQYHMRS

-add in a 1tb hard drive for games and storage:

Seagate BarraCuda 1TB Internal Hard Drive HDD - 3.5 Inch SATA 6 Gb/s 7200 RPM 64MB Cache for Computer Desktop PC (ST1000DM010) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LNJBA2I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_iHULDbAK7DC0J

If your motherboard can connect to a SATA drive and if you have SATA power connectors:

https://www.amazon.com/Silicon-Power-Performance-Internal-SP256GBSS3A55S25/dp/B075RJS55D/

256gb, $31. Fast and cheap especially compared to a spinning hard drive, good enough if prometaSFW can help you out.

u/aedinius · 1 pointr/linuxquestions

My top recommendation is to replace the drive with an SSD. If it's the original drive, that will be painfully slow no matter what you install on it, especially at boot-up time.

SSDs are getting really cheap.

I've used these Silicon Power SSD's in several PC's and they work well for how cheap they are. On paper they are slower than the better brands like Samsung and Crucial, but under normal use I can't really notice any difference. Plus you can even afford the 256GB model in your budget.

This is the one I just bought recently for my PS4 and moved Destiny 2 and Fallout 4 over to it and it works great. Both games run much smoother with faster loadtimes and character menus.

Prices for SSD drives have dropped considerably in the past 4-5 months.

You can pick up a 256GB for $40, 512GB for $70, or 960GB for $140.

If you keep your eyes on NewEgg and Amazon flash sales, you can save a little more. Also, Rakuten and eBay will occasionally offer 15% off coupons. I used a 15% off coupon a few days ago to grab a 960GB drive. Cost me $117.29 at checkout.

Put it in a $8 2.5" USB enclosure and you're good to go.

u/wonkay · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

price is back to 65.99 for me but the 256gb ssd which looks pretty much identical is $65.29

u/NEXT_VICTIM · 0 pointsr/lowendgaming

The magic of an SSD on a PC is moving only what you wanted sped up onto it. Personally, I put my OS and any games newer than 2015 on it. The rest go to a rather slow 1TB internal which I use for short term storage and usable stuff.

Skyrim has questionable load times when I played it a few years back. Worth speeding up, maybe just get a smaller drive to put games you want to load quickly?

IIRC 240gb was like $30-$40 for cheap ones on amazon (back them up weekly JIC), which would make the bottle neck either your graphics card or amount of RAM or single core processor speed. Heck, 512 Samsung EVO are $80ish, definitely the most effective and cheapest upgrade if you haven’t already done it yet.

Bonus: I’ve been using a older one as my boot drive for a while now, it takes longer to type in my 12 digit password than it takes to boot to the login screen. It’s glorious

Actually there are a ton of drives for around $30 with 248gb so even though this particular drive is cheap, it's hard to say if it's really worth it
