The assigned reading for chart calculation at Kepler was a book called Simply Math: A Comprehensive Guide to Easy & Accurate Chart Calculation:

You would have to get an ephemeris, an atlas for timezone conversions, and a table of houses to go along with it, although the Simply Math book is the starting point, and they tell you everything else you need to calculate charts by hand in the book.
