When I read the post title the first book I thought of was 'Pushing Ice' but looks as if I don't need to recommend any Alastair Reynold.

The book that reminds me most of 'House of Suns' is 'Sister Alice' by Robert Reed; powerful dynasties consisting of immortal clones with godlike powers.

I also enjoyed Marrow and The Well of Stars by the same author.

This is a kinda weird hard science fiction I read a while back, but Sister Alice. Not amazing literature, but perhaps the most far-thinking post-human, post-singularity fiction I've ever read.
