Oh god if "getting published" is where your bar for success is, you are setting yourself up for a horribly demotivating process.

Now for context, I'm a published author. My book (Sleep Over) is in bookstores, and is produced as an audiobook. I've had short stories published.

The successes I celebrate are not "I got published", they are much much smaller than that. You have to set small, achievable milestones to mark your progress, or you're afloat in a sea of nothingness for so long you'll drown.

When I was starting out, the successes I celebrated were
"I submitted a short story"
"I finished the final edit of a short story"
"I figured out that issue with pacing I was having"
"I went to a conference and talked to people"
"I was rejected by my 100th agent"
"I wrote my 4th book"

etc.

As more things go right, you can raise the bar up. But still, celebrating the small things will see you in good stead. Don't wait for one "yes" that will take a decade to happen. Say "yes" to yourself every single day you make progress, every time you feel like you pushed and moved forwards to your goals.

Hope that made sense and/or helped!
