Slim by Design (Book) talks a lot about small changes one can make to ones everyday life that affect calorie-intake.

A small suggestion for crisp cravings (was also mentioned in Secret Eaters): Use smaller bags. (Or re-bag them into weighed portions and put them away.) You will eat less of them for some reason (probably something to do with a 'stopping point' that was mentioned by the food scientist in Secret Eaters).

Last time I saw the M&Ms in the Google office microkitchen, they were in an opaque jar plainly labeled without the trademark logo/colors. It was on the bottom shelf, far from eye level... perfectly accessible but certainly not calling out to you when there's exotic and beautiful fresh fruit presented in beautiful containers at eye level.

They do the same with pop. If you want a coke that's ok. It's the bottom shelf behind the frosted glass (the water/healthier drinks are under clear glass), and you have to walk by two beautiful water infusions with slices of fresh fruit floating in them.

A lot of these ideas can be taken into the home too. Have a fruit bowl right where you'll see it every time you're in the kitchen an you'll eat more fruit. Put the cookie jar into the cupboard and you'll dip into it less. If you don't want to give up something but want to cut back, putting up natural inconveniences will help. Move the beer fridge to the garage, by bottles not large cans, etc.

There's a fantastic book called Slim by Design that talks about changes like this you can make at home, work, and school to help you out.
