>Yeah you could answer with your headset but you wouldn't know who's calling.

My current bluetooth headset shows me who's calling.

It's just I mean; why would they leave out having a mic (and speaker too?) and been able to consolidate a lot of your phones functionality into one nicely polished device, that's also exploitable by the user base?

I've been mulling bluetooth headsets that you can plug any headphones into. The advantage is that they have all the fancy features play, pause, volume and mic etc. With the bonus of course that you can then plug your preferred headphones in.

The ones i've been mulling are:

Samsung HS3000
Sony MW600
Sony MW1

The Sony ones have a little led display that can do stuff like show you the current song, text messages, email etc. Pretty cool stuff.

The downside of course is you also need to keep that charged in addition to your phone.

This Sony Ericsson is a good one I've bought. It can be used with any standard headphones. The only problem with it, is that it's small and black, and that means it's easy to lose. It can remember a pairing with three devices. The sound is what you might expect out of Sony - crisp, clean, not necessarily heavy on the bass. Suave design. Volume adjustment is via a touch-sensitive strip.

>Bluetooth would just be something to drain my phone quicker, and another battery for me to worry about. There needs to be another alternative.

I have been using devices like this for eight years now and my phone battery doesn't drain quicker. Charging is something that might need to be done every other day but as this device is getting really old sometimes I have to charge it everyday.

Still it allows me to use some cheap headphones, control my music, use voice commands and even see who's calling for about £30. Much cheaper than a smart watch.

IMO http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-Ericsson-MW-600-Bluetooth-Headphones/dp/B0038M3H4S are pretty good. Have been a happy owner for 4 months now. 3 day battery life (3h commute per day + 1h at lunch = circa 12h battery life)

Yeah, surely wireless headphones are a better choice? Even if your iPhone is out of charge/lost/you get a new phone, your wireless headphones will still work, and can be used in more ways. Or, a wireless headphone adapter like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-Ericsson-MW-600-Bluetooth-Headphones/dp/B0038M3H4S/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1345935895&sr=8-3
