Came here to suggest Grunts.

Also maybe Soon I Will Be Invincible - lots of super-villain POV.

The Sad Tale of the Brothers Grossbart - Despicable characters who think that they are completely justified in what they do.

The Sisters Brothers - similarly about villainous characters, but less extreme.

And maybe Villains by Necessity will come back into print some day. (looks like the plot summary there is for the wrong book - check out the reviews farther down if you're curious)

The Book, "Soon, I will be Invincible" tackles some good "realities" of being a meta. Two cyborgs that have massive upkeep costs and anti-rejection meds, a half human-half alien that has trouble keeping food down because her anatomy rejects both species foods, A fairy that people that just gets humored because everyone knows fairies don't actually exist, and a super genius that suffers from an obsession of trying to take over the world at the same time depression knowing that if it wasn't for that he could actually save the world and help it grow more than anyone else.

The book is brilliantly written as it looks at the superhero genre. It wears a lot of it's inspiration on it's sleeve as many of the characters have very obvious parallels to characters in The Justice League.

Currently, my favorite book would have to be Once a Runner by John L Parker. It's primarily about a college runner who is close to breaking 4 minutes in the mile, but has many obstacles in his daily life. Driven by his goal, he loses his college scholarship, friends, girlfriend, and quite possibly his entire future in order to race one of the best runner-athletes in history. I like it due to its entire nature. It shows what some people are willing to do when driven by their goals. It highlights both the positive and negative aspects of being driven by a goal. Also, as a runner, I can easily relate to it :P

If I win, I'd like Soon I Will Be Invincible

Thanks for doing this! :)
