Morning Show clarifications, suggestions and general thoughts:

  1. Flash joining the Army (25:13)

  • This actually happened. I haven't read the issues but Flash actually did join the army in the main continuity. It lead to him losing both of his legs and eventually bonding with the Venom Symbiote (which of course gives him the ability to walk again). This, in turn, lead to him becoming Agent Venom, a secret Agent for the government who goes on missions using the Symbiote as a type of battle suit.

  1. Kraven the Hunter (Somewhere around 27:00 and 28:30)

  • This isn't anything about the particuluar issue but, if you're interested in Kraven, he has a great story called Kraven's Last Hunt, where he defeats Spider-Man, buries him alive, and wears his own Spider suit and takes on villains. Also, If you're into the idea of one villain throwing a bunch of other villains at a hero in a gauntlet style, check out Batman: Knightfall. It's the first appearance of Bane and how he defeats Batman and breaks his back. The way he does this is by sending a bunch of villains at Batman, one after the other, so that Bruce is weak and tired when he gets home. Bane then attacks him in his home and defeats him, which leads to a guy called Azrael becoming Batman for a while.

  1. The ending (29:40 - 33:00ish)

  • I don't wanna harp on this too much but, since they talked about it for a while, I thought I'd chime in on the ending. The thing you have to understand is that Gwen is basically Uncle Ben part 2 for Peter. Like, she was the first girl he ever loved and he ended up being the reason she died. Honestly, even though they weren't married, Greg was pretty spot on in the comparison as far as how emotionally traumatizing this was for Pete. The reason MJ is so understanding at the end is because she gets how big a deal that was. I don't mean to criticize what the guys were saying (they definitely had valid points) but that's just my two cents.

  1. References (34:45)

  • This is minor but, since Greg showed This page, I just wanted to mention that it's a reference to Spider-Man's first appearance in Amazing Fantasy #15. This was referenced a few pages later when Flash says that it was Amazing and MJ says "yeah, an Amazing Fantasy".

  1. Other Minor Stuff

  • Greg did a great job of explaining No Man's Land so I thought I'd link it Here. Minor note about it: It takes place after a great story called Cataclysm. In it, a giant earthquake occurs in Gotham and the city is pretty much destroyed. Batman and crew then go out and spend days (with no sleep) making sure they can rescue as many people as possible. This leads to No Man's Land, where the rest of the country decides that it would cost too much to rebuild Gotham so they just close it off and leave the people to fend for themselves. I love No Man's Land but Cataclysm was probably my favorite part of that arc.

Okay that was that. If you guys want, I can try to keep doing something like this but it's gonna be kinda hard since I don't read a lot of non-Big 2 comics. For instance, I definitely won't be able to do something this long for Private Eye next week since I've never read it and will probably only have time to read the first volume.
