I'm going through my first college level programming class focusing on Python. The book outlines projects at the end of each chapter that we do our labs over.

I can personally recommend Starting Out With Python. I used this for my introductory Computer Science class.

Even though we only did the basics, I learnt Python classes on my own just by reading the book.
