Not a specific source (I'll find some in a second), but you're going to want to read about the West Virginia Coal Wars, especially The Battle of Blair Mountain.

edit: Okay, I'm not an expert on this area, so I just did some light googling and sifted through some wikipedia citations, but here are some things you might want to check out:

John Newsinger (British Marxist), wrote a book called Them and Us: Fighting the Class War 1910-1939, and wrote an article titled From Class War to Cold War, which was published in Issue 73 of INTERNATIONAL SOCIALISM in 1996.

edit: whoops that first book is about British labor organizing. The article is good though (I read it).

 

Jeremy Brecher wrote Strike! which definitely is about American labor organization. I haven't read it, comes well reviewed. Had like 4 editions.
