Amazon link for those interested.

As an alternative I've bought several of these.

  • $4-5 less expensive
  • 3x as many seeds (15k vs 5k)
  • 50% more variety (32 vs 20)
  • longer shelf life (20+ years vs 5+ years)

Caveat: I don't have any experience growing any of them so I can't comment on their viability. I just have a half-dozen packs stuck in the back of my fridge. They claim 40+ yr shelf life in the fridge.

I also really like Patriot Supply. I have some of their food stockpiled and have tasted it all and like it all.

Send me your addy and I will get the butter beans and parsnips in the mail. The butter beans were one of our favorites this year. I had to fight my 6yr old son over who got to ear more. We cook them down with some stock and maybe some ham...yummy.

The butter beans are from Sothern States and are called "Dixie Butterpea". They are a bush bean and stay pretty low to the ground. The parsnips are from a variety pack of seeds I ordered from here - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LE4RGOE/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The germination rate has been fantastic for the seeds that came out of this pack.
Dave.

Most are around 2-3 years, some like onions go quicker and others like lettuce can last longer.

I was eyeballing this for consideration. But like you said, they don't last forever, so maybe you can just gift them or plant them after a couple years. Rotate your stock.

Seconded BlueberryRush! Save your seeds in your peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, melons, fruits, everything you like to eat and plant them!

For flowers, do you have Dollar Tree in Virginia? They sell packets of both flower and veggie seeds 4/$1. I load up at this time of year. And at the end of the season, places sell their seeds for next to nothing. I loaded up in November for $.10/packet.

I would also recommend something like this. $16 gets you a TON of all different kinds of awesome fruit and veggie seeds. I bought that bag two years ago and it seems like I haven’t come close to making a dent.
