Dunno if you're playing via Wi-Fi, but definitely look into some powerline adapters. You don't need the best or fastest one, but these will be way more consistent than a Wi-Fi connection (speed dependant on your service plan)

These are what I recently bought: http://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-Adapters-Included-Beamforming-TPL-420E2K/dp/B00S7NJWOM

I actually hooked it up to my old router and made a new network for myself in our basement, and then hardwired my PS4 to the router.

It's absolutely possible and those are at transmission voltages (tens to hundreds of thousands of volts).

But, you can buy that for your home for less than seventy bucks.

I've never seen one...

The internet portion of an HDMI cable with ethernet is basically just a few extra pins in HDMI were turned into a twisted pair instead of loose.

Now, the 3 TMDS signals and Clock signal are all twisted pair. You could theoretically cut off the HDMI ends and get to them. Then crimp your own Cat6 end on. The color code wouldn't match Cat5/6 so you would have to substitute. Also, no idea if the specs of the wire would work (gauge, twist rate, etc).

If you are sure that your never going to use that cable and can crimp your own Cat, give it a shot.

You could also try ethernet over power - https://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-Adapters-Included-Beamforming-TPL-420E2K/dp/B00S7NJWOM?th=1

I'd get a Network Switch, and run the cable from your router there, and place the switch somewhere in between the console and the PC.

What a switch does as simply as I can describe it: it has some algorithms inside the firmware that determine which direction to send the data. This means that bother the PS4 and PC will be getting the bandwidth you're paying for(in theory), because the switch knows where to send the data. A switch is also safer, as it knows which device to send data to (but that's more important for business applications). You can get a gigabit switch for around 30 bucks.

The problem with using a straight splitter is: they don't have this.

The other solution I see is to do Ethernet over power.
Any of these device types use the data from your router and transfer it into basic electrical signals to another outlet reveiver, and back to data signals.

If you can't run ethernet cables, Powerline may be your best bet. It has better ping and less packet loss than wifi, which is important for gaming.

I've used a set of Trendnet 406E to connect my server downstairs to my network upstairs, and it has been rock solid for the past 2 years.

However, that set is limited to 100mb port. This newer kit has gigabit ports and a newer version of the homeplug standard.

Is there any reason why running ethernet cable isn't feasible? Cabled connections are ideal for gaming, and short of Wireless AC networks you aren't going to get great latency over wireless.

You might consider ethernet with a [powerline adapter] (https://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-Adapters-Included-Beamforming-TPL-420E2K/dp/B00S7NJWOM/ref=dp_ob_title_ce).

Depends where the failure is. Move your PC directly next to the router, do a speed test. Then move it progressively further away back into your room running a speed test. Every room should be good. You'll get an idea as to where the problem is.

If right next to the router you don't get the speeds you're paying for it could be a problem with either your router or our network adapter in your PC. Only way to test that would be to get a replacement one and try.

If you do get the speed you want next to the router than a repeater will likely be the solution.

Look into Powerline Ethernet too. Something like this, but shop around.

Or possibly see about moving the router to the 3rd floor. It's recommended that wireless access points be as high up as possible.

You seemed to imply that running CAT5/5e/6 was not an option. Powerline ethernet lets you plug some adapters into an electrical outlet and use the powerlines as a hardwired network. Not an endorsement of this specific product, but this is an example:
https://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-Adapters-Included-Beamforming-TPL-420E2K/dp/B00S7NJWOM

It is not anywhere near as good as a dedicated data run, and results vary depending on the house wiring, but it is likely to be significantly faster and more reliable than Wifi.

Instead of drilling a hole, try ethernet over powerline. I use it to extend my wired network to a second floor and it works well. Something like this.

I run my ethernet over the power lines of my house with this and have the steam link set up so I can play while in the tub 2 rooms over. Always has worked great for me.

Less lag than on wifi, although I haven't had issues with wifi either. Maybe I'm the exception to the rule because everybody is always saying that Steam Link sucks.

u/Throwawayhobbes · 1 pointr/PS4

This is a long shot but it worked for me.
Ethernet over power-line. Hopefully the other person will allow you to plug in on their side and "sync" the kit upon the initial setup.

https://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-Adapters-Included-Beamforming-TPL-420E2K/dp/B00S7NJWOM

  1. Adapter 1 Goes into the main router Ethernet jack >then into the power outlet in the wall.

  2. Adapter 2 Goes into your PS4 jack Ethernet> then into power outlet of wall.

If those options don't work your SOL.
I hear The slim and Pro have better wifi cards in them thus better speeds.
u/jesusfreek · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Not sure about the security aspect, but these look like they would work: https://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-Adapters-Included-Beamforming-TPL-420E2K/dp/B00S7NJWOM

Don't be. I had never heard of it until I created a Reddit account like 5 days ago.

From what I understand, it uses your pre-existing power cables to transfer an internet connection. It's more reliable than most wireless connections, and has comparable (and usually better) speeds.

I have never used them, but they seem to be well-received.

Something like this may work for you.

Most of the bandwidth is taken up by the PLEX VM, transferring files from the seedbox to local storage, and some light web browsing. Other than that there isn't much network usage for this machine.

Do you have a recommended adapter? I found these that looked pretty decent:

TP-Link AV2000

Extollo Ethernet Powerline LANSocket 1500

NETGEAR PowerLINE PL1200-100PAS

TRENDnet TPL-420E2K

This is along the lines of what you are looking for.

I should have added this into my original responding comment but another commenter shared this link. If I got something like this would this help solve my problem or continue doing what u explained ?
