looks like around 40" is the biggest 1080 you can get at actual costs lower than a 4k

https://www.amazon.com/TCL-40S325-Inch-1080p-Smart/dp/B07GB61TQR/ $180

i think it's to the point where 4k panels are cost equivalent to 1080p panels, over 40", due to production volume.

so you might be able to find a 50" 1080, but it'll cost about the same as a 4k.

what you should do is check craigslist for older 1080p flat screens. i was looking this weekend and there were 3 or 4 people selling 50" plasmas for $150 or so. plasma would be better for outside and for sports. glare will be a bitch though.

Wasn’t sure where to ask this and hope somebody could help me out.

My grandfather is looking to buy a TV for the living room, he doesn’t want or need 4K as he’ll be using it to watch cable TV only. I have a TCL 55in 4K TV and it’s been good to me, I saw that there’s a 1080p version for a 40in, would that be good enough? This is the TV in question , his budget is around $250-$300.

Amazon https://www.amazon.com/TCL-40S325-Inch-1080p-Smart/dp/B07GB61TQR/ From Prime Day.

I tried to find the review again before posting this thread, but couldn't

Here's a 1080p tv from them

A 3 inch larger 4k tv is $30 more... 1080p just doesn't make sense.

You might think about a TV rather than an explicit monitor; they do a great job for anything but high-FPS gaming and cost about half as much as “monitors”. I bought a 40” 4K tv for $200 recently, and I’ve been really happy coding on it. Something like: https://www.amazon.com/TCL-40S325-Inch-1080p-Smart/dp/B07GB61TQR

Would this Dell monitor be a significant improvement over this inexpensive TCL 40' being sold for around the same price? Assuming I don't have much interest in anything beyond 60 fps?

I don't know how response time comes into play for televisions vs pc monitors.
