I keep a hair dryer exclusively for "defrosting" the bathroom mirror, post-shower. The steam/pores = optimal shaving conditions.
Also, The Body Shop has excellent men's shaving cream. It's consistency is more similar to toothpaste. I've tried many & this one reallly puts the drug store brands to shame. I"m pretty certain it lasts a year, so don't be dissuaded by the price.
The alcohol cleaning your blade is another winner sugguested already. I've experimened with mineral oil in a similar fashion. soaking the razor in oil after or simply coating it keeps the blade like new.. I just haven't figured out a less messy way to execute this one.
