>and even if it did I reckon they'd be the equivalent of a tiny village of Mormons, rather than a real faction with any kind of clout.
Funny that. There is a term for the C.I.A. that is joked about in the beltway that it no longer stands for central intelligence agency but instead "Christians in Action." do the strong recruitment of "hardcore" Mormon members who for lack of a better description "blindly and willingly" do what they are told so long as it serves the greater good.
Some reddit anecdotal evidence.

A published book. https://www.amazon.com/Darker-Side-Virtue-Corruption-Scandal/dp/0879756543
But I must say the book is simply a joke. As is the Christans in action thing around the beltway.
Any Mormons in the intelligence community are just as tight lipped about state secrets as they are about child molestation or exploitation in the church. They don't ask questions and don't drink. Which means they can be cast as the perfect soldier doing what has been ordered without thought or remorse (trusting in a higher purpose.)
