I would just add that this congeniality did not extend to the Polish Air Force in Britain in the slightest. In general, Polish pilots hated the Germans passionately. They had lost their country and the Germans were busy ravaging it. The Poles frequently killed German pilots who bailed out. Since this was over allied territory, and there was no possibility of the Germans escaping, this was probably not legal.
