This is a book that was made into a movie. It stars Hilary Swank as a new teacher in a highschool that is over-run by gangs and what-not. But what it is basically, is all these kids have no real family at home, some of them are even homeless. And since they have no one to talk to, she gives each of them journals to tell stories of their lives past and present. Excerpts from their journals were put into a book.
