There are lots of great resources.

  • Dr. Adrienne Keene is great!
  • Kent Monkman is a genius but might be kind of inaccessible to beginners.
  • DeLesslin is working on food sovereignty & very intelligent
  • James Leask used to write wonderful articles about comics & Indigenous culture
  • Thomas King's Inconvenient Indian is a very humorous & comprehensible read on the broken treaties, residential schools and policies of genocide against the Native Americans.
  • Many reservations have a visitor center or a museum you can donate to, volunteer at or just visit.
  • It'll take some research but the protesters of the Dakota Access Pipeline still need help.
  • There is a huge biography of Russell Means, a member of AIM, that is a starting point.
  • It is unfortunate, but Native women are still targets of bigots and serial killers because their deaths are not investigated. You can support the search for missing women by encouraging your local police & policy makers to take it seriously, or by donating to this group.
  • Kevin Locke often gives educational speeches and concerts

There is so much out there. I'm happy to give you more resources if you want to DM me. I am also white, but was lucky enough to grow up with a lot of Native friends and family. I'm happy to help you out if some words seem hurtful or are confusing.

I also second that Smoke Signals is a great movie. Reel Injun is good too.

And remember, guilt is not bad in this situation. Your pain is a fraction of what contemporary and historic people experienced. Don't try to run away from it. Use it to make you a better person.
