Started my day off with a walk to a lakeside cafe about a mile away from my parents' house. I got to pet six dogs, ranging from a Great Dane to a miniature Schnauzer to a pair of Airedale Terrier puppies, on my way there, and then got a great cappuccino and watched the wild swans. A cute baby who was wearing tiny wellies with woodland creatures on them at the table over smiled at me and I smiled back at her and she was delighted. I brought my favorite book to reread by the lake and a cute guy (unfortunately hand in hand with an equally attractive woman) commented on how it was one of his favorites, too, and that was nice. I got one of my favorite British dishes for lunch and then walked back to my parents' house and picked a bunch of wild blackberries along the way and I think I'm gonna make a blackberry crumble with them tonight.
Now I'm listening to Youth Lagoon and job hunting for positions in Portland/Seattle/northern Cali.
Missing London but today was pretty nice.
If you enjoy fiction, you might enjoy The Lacuna. When Harrison Sheppard becomes a writer, he becomes more introverted, more reclusive. When the "inner" landscape becomes richer compared to a problematic "surround", this can happen. I sometimes use the language of existential angst in this regard, but it is not a perfect expression at all. Anyway, when I was at boarding school as a kid, till I ran away at 17 and started life on my own, the landscape you describe was quite familiar to me. A few things happened after that, living in communes, professional life, marriage, etc. that allow the feverish to translate into an intensity that fortunately for me, blurs the line between inner and outer, to where I really avoid the language of inner at this point. But I think you might like the book, set in Asheville NC, various settings in Mexico, and Washington DC. I am reading one of her other books now, I like the author so much, and if you are a female, perhaps Animal Dreams would be the one I would start with.
