The Translation of the Bardo Thodrol to which you are referring does not include all 14 Chapters. (I agree that the OP was a little dismissive of others but, to be fair, so was your comment.) The link above is to a text with the whole thing, including the first 4 chapters which are meant, I believe, to be the Preliminary Practices to this practice, since this is a Tantric practice, to which all but the dead are recommended to try to get an empowerment to, at some point.
