When they started the experiment, they knew that aberrations might crop up. Incentivizing two adults to have children for the sake of longevity, covertly, would be a difficult task, but my parents split the incentive and went their disparate ways after my first 17 years. Pragmatic, I think is the word. My father, a scientist of sorts, fostered my curiosity.
Love, mutual interest, a pulse (excluding the rare deceased individual with zygotes in storage), most times takes precedence. My mother and father were of the second category, they both had a family history of centenarians, and with the incentive provided by the Lazarus Organization, they happily conceived me.
At 35, with a couple of grey hairs and a sour disposition, we took a Lively Picture (TM). Lively Pictures were novel, and I hadn't quite realized my... condition.
A century later, someone posts that same image, reclaimed from a great grandfather's old desktop Hard Drive. All I can see is a grey landscape of people I knew and a smiling fool that didn't have the grace to die with the rest.
I'm going to take a few deep breaths. Life is worth living, and there is always Time Enough for Love
That is one of my favorite books, give it a go if you're up for some challenging scifi
