I got the Timex Weekender from Amazon. Its actually cheaper now than when I purchased it by $3. Then I purchased a strap from LakeHouseLeathers on Etsy. The owner is a Redditor who frequently posts discount codes on /r/frugalmalefashion.

At least 5 hoodies/cardigans/sweaters Hoodies and sweatshirts are gonna be your most casual bet, followed by crew sweatshirts and thicker cardigans. Thinner cardigans and vnecks are gonna be more smart-casual additions to your wardrobe. Colours like navy, grey and dark grey are gonna be your best bets year-round.

i agree thats a nice watch, but for half the money:

you can get this

and this

also the watch in the pic is a pvd nato, something like this - i really really like this company btw

25 dollars won't get you too far, but each of these is around 25 dollars or less.

I really wouldn't recommend either of those, because while they're only 50 pounds I'll bet they won't last more than a year. Instead, how about one of thise?

Seiko Men's SNXS79K - Pair this with a leather or nato strap and it'll be gorgeous! My own pic of a similar watch for reference.

Most watches are only offered in one size, but some are smaller than others. I have 5.75" wrists and my current cheap/casual watches are the Timex Weekender (on me | at Amazon), Casio A158W-1 (on me | at Amazon), and RAM Rugged Field Watch (on me | at Amazon). Also good is this Seiko 5, but I don't own one right now. Anyway, I have no idea what your desired style or budget is, but hopefully those suggestions and photos are of some use.

EDIT: Also, if you're looking for NATO straps, check out Crown and Buckle. Their new strap design has holes cut for people with really small wrists. Even with my tiny wrists, I've still got two holes left.

u/frostinhisbones · 8 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Timex Weekender's seem to be the go-to for a lot of people here. I've got two, but I think I'd rather have a Seiko 5, it's an auto (doesn't run on a battery). There's something kinda neat about automatic watches and the Seiko has a really good quality/price ratio.

u/Portuspa · 7 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

You never know with amazon. Here is a graph that shows how the price has fluctuated.

A couple days ago my parents had a couple over for dinner. I was at a friends house earlier, so when I got home for dinner the man (who is a doctor) was like holy s*** its worse than your parents described. What creams are you using again? lol so yeah after multiple prescription creams and antibiotics I'm on Accutane. Fucking terrified since suicide is a side effect.

Also I'm about to pull the trigger on this watch: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004VR9GCQ/ref=s9_psimh_gw_p241_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0HCDJT5HM7PHY02QKS05&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1688200382&pf_rd_i=507846

Today I'm going to the lake with 3 girls since my bud bailed.. I dunno if it's going to be great or a flop

Or you can check out Amazon for the same watch (black strap) for $25.24 shipped. Shipping on TheClymb.com brings the watch to around $30 total.

Casio and Timex both have decent digital watches in that range. For an analog, Vostoks are great looking if you don't mind that they can gain/lose alot of time in a day otherwise Timex and Seiko has some good basic stuff that you could put a metal or rubber band on if it doesn't come with it already. Outside of that if all you can spend is $100 most of what you'll find either gonna find are cool looking but flimsy pieces or decently made but basic watches. If you can up your budget even to $150 your options from Orient, Bulova, and Citizen open up a little bit.

u/AnElepahntCage · 4 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Is that really the only requirement? There are soooo many different options in that range. Here a few of my favorite in the area.

Orient Bambino

Orient Mako

Citizen Nighthawk

Seiko Orange Monster

Timex Weekender

Rodina Small Seconds

I can keep going, but more specificity is needed for a better suggestion.

u/jaeun87 · 4 pointsr/Watches

Are you looking for something similar in style? There are almost too many options when you're up at the $500 range, and it really depends on what you're going for (dressy, casual, diver, etc).

Honestly, a Timex Weekender looks almost just about the same (arguably not as good), and it's also quartz.

https://www.amazon.com/Timex-T2N647-Weekender-Watch-Black/dp/B004VR9GCQ/ref=sr_1_3?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1465425133&sr=1-3&nodeID=7141123011&keywords=timex+weekender

Just slap on a leather bracelet on it, and you saved yourself $500.

I think this is your best bet:http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hamilton-Military-watch-GG-W-113-1988-17-jewel-Swiss-Movement-/111538916788

These are going to be out of your target price range, but maybe you'll be interested to know that there are similar Hamilton vintage watches out there.

u/Wheezin_Ed · 3 pointsr/thelastofus

Like you said, it doesn't look like the greatest watch and is way overpriced for what it is. I suspect you might get a similar quality watch or even better by getting parts yourself.

If anyone is interested in doing this, I took the liberty of finding a few watches with faces that look somewhat like Joel's, especially the first which is probably perfect.

Watch 2

Watch 3

Lastly, just buy the green NATO strap separate and you should be good. This one is cheap and comes with a tool.

Band

None are exact, but considering most don't like the cartoonish look of the official one, I think there's some personal choice. Hope this helps everyone!

u/themightyguapo · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

There's a reason MFA (and other sources) consistently recommend the Timex Weekender over just about any other sub-$100 watch. It's simple, it's versatile and the easily-exchanged watchband means it can match just about anything. It has garnered me far more compliments than a $30 watch should.

Unfortunately, that Casio is complicated, incredibly informal, and digital - which adds up to a significantly less fashionable, more despised watch than you probably want on your wrist.

u/hipsterasshipster · 3 pointsr/Portland

Depending on what you are looking for, here are a couple of recommendations to keep your eyes peeled for while shopping. You might be able to find them at various stores around town, but I’ve sourced mine from Amazon with no issues:

Casio Men's AE1200WHD-1A Stainless Steel Digital Watch - World Time

This guy looks sharp, has a metal band, and hosts quite a few features such as: light, alarm, timer, stopwatch, and date display. Kind of a “dad watch” but very clean and practical for the price.

Casio Men's MDV106-1AV 200M Duro Analog Watch, Black

This is a cool diver watch that is a huge bang for your buck. It looks quite a bit more expensive than it actually is. Has a one-way rotating bezel (dive function) that is very secure, a locking crown, and you can swap the band to tailor the look to what you are wearing. It is actually water resistant and I have seen people use it while diving. I put a striped nylon strap on mine to get that James Bond Rolex Submariner vibe.

Seiko Men's SNK809 Seiko 5 Automatic Stainless Steel Watch with Black Canvas Strap

This is probably my personal favorite. You can get it in a couple of different color schemes and I got mine (black) for around $60. This is an automatic watch so there are no batteries. It winds as you move, which is great if you wear it everyday, but not so much if you swap it out for a couple of days. It’s pretty small and lightweight and the lume (glow in the dark, Seiko is usually regarded at being very good for it) on the face is insane. While backpacking I’ve woken up in the middle night with the face still glowing as if I had just flashed it with light. You can swap the band on this as well, and I’ve found the NATO straps to be a little nicer than the standard canvas strap. It’s isn’t as dressy, but definitely a great watch. The movement is also a pretty unique Japanese movement that scrolls like most higher end watches instead of “tick tick tick” which can be loud and annoying at times.

There is also the Timex Weekender option. They are pretty cheap and you can find them everywhere. They are available in a ton of color options so for $100 you could probably grab a few different styles. They make a bunch of designs of them as well, but they are definitely just cheap everyday watches and can be quite loud.

u/pelicularities · 3 pointsr/EDC

I'd try to build this EDC with the assumption that I could keep it for years (if not indefinitely):

Wallet: allett Ultra Slim Sport Wallet - $15

Knife: Opinel No. 6 Carbon - $12

Multitool: Leatherman Style PS - $25

Light: Olight i3s - $15

Pen: Zebra Sarasa Clip - $3

Watch: Timex Weekender - a variant under $30

I EDC a Style PS right now, and have EDCed the Olight i3s and Zebra Sarasa Clip in the past. I own (but have never EDCed) an Opinel No. 8 stainless, and it's excellent, but I wish it were smaller and could sharpen up even more, so No. 6 carbon it is. I've handled allett wallets in stores and trust their usability and quality. The Timex Weekender is the only one on this list that I haven't had direct experience with, but it's the cheapest watch I could find that I'd feel I could keep for a long time.

I would consider any tailstanding AAA light under $15 with a reasonable high and low. I went with the Olight i3s because I've used it, but I'd also take the Lumintop Worm or Thrunite Ti3 if I could get it under $15.

u/Do_Not_Go_In_There · 3 pointsr/Watches

Timex has some watches, specifically the Expedition model, that fit in that price range, are 40mm dials, and have some darker models, but doesn't have lume, instead you push the crown down and it lights up. The bands are nylon or leather. They go for around $40 USD. The Weekender might work too. They're very good watches, but be warned that Timex watches tend to tick loudly.

Then there's the Casio dive watches (the MDV106 gets recommended a lot, but mostly because of it's appearance, there are other models that you might prefer over it, just search for "casio dive"), it has lume (e: the lume on these watches is apparently not that great, thanks /u/mojojojoborras) and is about $10-35 USD. It has a plastic band. It's very big though (44mm, I'm told the size on amazon is wrong), and some don't have arabic numerals.

Then there's the Seiko 5 SNZG17K1 if you want an automatic watch, it is 42 mm black watch face and with lume and a dark grey metal band. Amazon has it for $169 USD. Since it's automatic you will likely need to set the time each morning (unless you buy a watch winder).

I can vouch for Timex and Casio being solid brands, and have an Expedition myself that works great (with a new strap at least), and Seiko is a brand that a lot of people here recommend very often.

u/Xiphoid_Process · 3 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

Paid $29 for mine on Amazon. Bought three different ones at that price and love 'em all!

u/YesIWantThat · 3 pointsr/Watches

Seiko SNK809 is a great watch for starters and is very popular in this sub. The Timex Weekender is an alternative if you're a little tight on the budget or prefer quartz over automatic watches. And finally there is also the Classic Gold Casio if your teenager in particular wants to be a true OG.

u/bungsana · 3 pointsr/Watches

IMO, i would steer clear of two tone watches (gold and silver) as they can look tacky if not done right.

buy a clean watch. if you want a bit more formal, white dials are not a bad way to go. the timex you listed in all "steel" is good https://www.amazon.com/Timex-T2N647-Weekender-Watch-Black/dp/B004VR9GCQ

also, a seiko 5 such as this one is a good bet (remember usually bezels are considered a bit sportier). see if you can change the nato to a leather strap to dress it up a bit more.

u/enano9314 · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I just bought this TimeX Weekender with an olive band. I normally wear watches with leather straps or rubber, but I have noticed that the holes on this watch seem to really be pulling, even after just a few wears. Using the 3rd hole is much too loose and causes the watch to flop all over my wrist, and using the 4th hole is a much more comfortable fit, but causes the hole to "pull" a fair bit, but it is still loose enough for me to fit my finders under. So I don't understand why this band seems to be doing this, it doesn't feel cheap!

Any ideas?

u/svickn · 3 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

Well, depending on the version it could use either. I've got one that is 20mm and a friend has an 18mm. If you can find your weekender on Amazon you ought to be able to find the band width listed. For instance:
http://www.amazon.com/Timex-Unisex-T2N647-Weekender-Watch/dp/B004VR9GCQ

u/ilikesleep · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I like to hike, but I don't bring my cell phone during hiking, mostly because I lose reception in such areas. In which case, a watch comes in handy for keeping track of time.

u/nuggiesmcgravy · 2 pointsr/Watches

Thanks for the suggestions! Currently this is my top choice. However, do you think it would be worth the splurge for something a little nicer like this?

u/imanursingstudent · 2 pointsr/StudentNurse

I have a Timex Weekender

it's cheap enough that I'm not worried if something happens to it, but still looks nice enough

u/half-great-adventure · 2 pointsr/nursing

Not fancy, but the Timex Weekender is what I have.

Has a 24 hour time inset, a second hand, and a cloth wristband that I chuck in the wash. You can buy different colored bands to change with your outfit if you so please.

u/scnickel · 2 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

I have this one and I think it looks good with a black T and jeans.

If you have Prime it will fit in your budget.

http://www.amazon.com/Timex-T2N647-Weekender-Watch-Black/dp/B004VR9GCQ

u/space-butler · 2 pointsr/Watches

Your particular example there just seems to be a generic Chinese quartz that's confused about what it is (dial says Automatic?)

You would be served much better by something like a basic Casio dress watch that has some semblance of build quality and reliability about it. (Ignore Amazon's listed dimensions, they are often inaccurate)

For a not-so-dressy option, consider the popular Timex Weekender model.

At your price point you could also look at some of the Seiko 5 dress watches. Refer to this site for a complete catalog.

u/fireshaper · 2 pointsr/EDC

Timex Weekender, got it at Target.

u/Nothingcreativeatm · 2 pointsr/Watches

I definitely agree with all the Seiko 5 comments. Its a ton of watch for the money-I got mine for $55 on amazon, leaving you $25 to get a few different straps if you like. Something like this might be up your alley as well. Solid, simple, inexpensive. If you don't care about whether its automatic, Timex or Casio are probably a good bet in your price range. Tons of style choices.

u/kv-2 · 2 pointsr/AskEngineers

Using the information here and here a watch needs <0.9 microW of power to run. Assuming a similar efficiency of the Curiosity's RTG of 2.4 W/kg it would take 0.375 mg of plutonium to run.

Depending on actual performance and factors of scale it would weigh more and need more fuel to work especially as the "cold" sink for the thermoelectric plates would be warmer but a simple watch is only 22.7 g so it is possible for a slightly bulky watch to use an RTG is you don't mind the increased radiation from the minimal shielding.

All things considered, my advice is not to buy it. Here are a couple of reasons: 1) Unknown watch manufacturer with no reviews and no other products to base on. 2) Anyone above the age of 13 will agree that the strap which comes with it (which I assume is the actual thing you intend to buy) is hideous.

If you are looking for a decent quality, reasonably priced, and stylish watch, you can take a look at our buying guide or just straight up spend an extra 10 bucks to buy a Timex Weekender which is arguably the best cheap quartz watch you can buy.

If, however, you really like the look of that watch in your link and are ready to lose 20 bucks then - by all means buy it. Hope this helps.

u/Nayyyyy · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

In casual wear you don't really need to match leathers as much. Though some people prefer too.

Timex are generally good quality for the price point.

if he has a tendency to dip his arm in water without really thinking about the watch, maybe one of the 100m water resistant Casio ladies divers might be a good option, like the LRW200H-1BV; unisex style but at a smaller 33mm size.

the Timex Weekender is an option as well. You could get him a bunch of cheap nato straps for it as well if he wants to change the look.

for digital, any of the Casios would work, like the F91W-1 or the A168WA-1

Ok, I've been obsessing over this recently as it's my choice of Halloween costume as well.
The pic from /u/iforgotmypen came from here but if you follow that you'll be spending just under $400. This guy made a 'replica' of the backpack and is selling it for $185, but I found this backpack on ebay which is remarkably similar. It ships from Hong Kong, so if you want it by the 31st you'll need to order quickly. On this, you'll want to hang a vertical flashlight. Here is the cheapest one I could find. Yes, it comes in black. There's a lot of discussion over the watch but if you don't want to spend $925 for a Stowa Flieger (hard core drugs indeed) then this is decent knock off. If you're planning on attending a Con of some sort, you may not want to haul around an actual brick. The coup d'état would be to have one of the promotional foam bricks they made for the release, but these are extremely rare and expensive. I found this prop brick on etsy or you can find a DIY guide online. I would recommend visiting your local Charity Shop to secure the flannel. Several different kinds have been used by others and it's so dirty in the game it's hard to tell what the original pattern was. Green with brown lining and two pockets should get you close enough. Most seasonal Halloween stores carry all the plastic guns you'll need for your arsenal. You could duct tape plastic scissors to a wiffle-ball bat if you wanted to get really creative. The guys at Volpin Props were toying with the idea of making the flamethrower but I wouldn't recommend attempting it on your own (though I love the beer can diffuser.) That and the beard and you're set ;) Would love to see the end results. Good luck!

Recommendations for a 10-year-old boy?

I'd like to get a watch for my son. He's responsible, but given his age, I probably shouldn't spend over $100 because there's the off-chance he'll lose it. He's very much into sports and so will play hard with it on at school. He once expressed interest in a dual analog/digital display and I don't think he'd like roman numerals or index hour markers. Probably arabic numerals are a requirement.

I looked at the buying guide for <$250 recs, but also need to think about it being relatively smaller in size as he has the wrist of a 10-year old. So, I'm considering:

I don't have much clothing on my wishlist, so here's the 1 item that technically is clothing. And this is a thing that isn't really clothing, more of an accessory I guess? The second one is more preferred, but if that doesn't count as clothing, then well, I guess there really isn't much of a choice for me =P
