So the pin out needed to make this work is the Microphone and Ground connections on a TRRS connection are what line up to the audio and ground connections on the UV-25X4 so with a custom adapter it now works 100%.
The manual is wrong that it will work with a TRS speaker, it will not.

I took care in choosing these options as the opening for the audio out is a recessed connection so the connector must be small enough to fit fully.
