There are a few of us here, yeah, but there are other places with a LOT more guys that you should definitely check out. Come chat at http://ftmichael.transboys.info/yayforqueers.html . :) And spend a lot of time with the links below. http://ftm.livejournal.com/ is another particularly excellent place to connect with guys who've been there.
Take your time with these links; getting through them is not a race, and going through them slowly is a better idea anyway.
Must-reads if you can get hold of them:
(The books, aside from Trans Forming Families, can be ordered on Amazon or you can get the ISBNs from Amazon and bring them to any bookstore to order them. The DVD can be ordered on Amazon also, as you see from the link.)
/u/ftmichael has a good list of resources. I hope he won't mind if I quote one of his posts concerning another person who had asked for books she/her parents could read:
>Connect with http://imatyfa.org/ and get yourself a copy of The Transgender Child by Stephanie Brill and Rachel Pepper. (Never give or recommend anything you haven't read first yourself!)
>Also check out:
> Luna* by Julie Anne Peters (YA fiction)
>(The books can be ordered on Amazon or you can get the ISBNs from Amazon and bring them to any bookshop to order them. The DVD can be ordered on Amazon also, as you see from the link.)
Having seen Transgeneration, it isn't too bad and is something you could watch with your mum, although there's less factual information as it's more of a documentary.
Also, the WPATH Standards of Care, and the American Endocrine Society Clinical Practise Guidelines for Transgender Care are informative reads (I like the former a bit more - they've come a long way the past decade or so).
