  1. Don't take it too seriously. So much of the Christmas/holiday season is already consumed by stress, planning, and execution that people often forget to just enjoy it.
  2. Ask everyone to bring a dish of some kind. That saves you the time, energy, and money of planning the entire meal yourself. Plus it gets people invested into the celebration. Heck, it could even just be finger foods and appetizers and it would be a hit. With a lot of people in a small space, that would eliminate the need for large tables and chairs for eating a big meal.
  3. Christmas/holiday music in the background is a must have. But make sure it's something that won't overpower conversation or be a distraction. Instrumentals are perfect for this. Vince Guaraldi's "A Charlie Brown Christmas" is a great place to begin because it's jazz but not, like, experimental jazz which has trumpets and saxophones blaring all over the place. Follow that with Kenny Burrell's "Have Yourself a Soulful Little Christmas" and now you've got a party.
  4. Something that has gained popularity are the selfie/photo booth props used to take pictures. It adds some playfulness and gives people a chance to make some Insta-memories.

I am sure there are other great tips and tricks but having done this for a while, these are the little things that make it easier/special.
