The remote kinda sucks (the near perfect button grid doesn't allow any 'muscle memory') but it plays pretty much anything.

I picked up one of these recently, it plays video files from a usb drive or sd card and so far everything I've thrown at it plays back beautifully. It's dirt cheap and the playback quality is nice. The menus are kind of bland, but what do you want for $30?
You wouldn't need anything fancy - Something like this features looping and you can plug in the memory stick with the video.
