I just want to say that even though you don’t feel like you have any personal relationships in your life right now that are “safe enough,” you’re not alone in this feeling. Many of us have been right where you are. It’s a tough place to be — you see how far you have to go, and yet at the same time you feel like you don’t have the tools to get there.

You have more tools than you can see right now. You survived to become the person you are now — not just a person who is beset by flashbacks, or who has chosen relationships that are no longer healthy, but the person who has this unbreakable drive to keep going and get better, even though it’s so often lonely, hard work.

Please remember to try to be kind to yourself. I know that’s like...ridiculous, all of us struggle with that so much, but it is something where “faking it until you make it” kind of works. You’re not supposed to be able to do this all at once. This is seriously hard work — you will need breaks.

You mentioned books, and books are something that have helped me a ton as well. Pete Walker’s was one of the first that I read, and it was very validating, but I also found it incredibly triggering. What’s been most helpful for me has been trauma release exercises / somatic experiencing, and now Janina Fisher’s book, Healing The Fragmented Selves of Trauma Survivors. She specifically talks about healing trauma without retriggering yourself into a destabilized state (and I think for this reason might be a better bet than Walker’s book).
